Time to heal

The day before yesterday we lost our beloved Poppy .He wpassed just hours before his 90th birthday.I just want to tell you some things about our Poppy. I have known poppy since I was 16 years old and never heard the man raise his voice. He proudly servrd in the Navy. He was an amazingly gifted carpenter.A practical joker. an animal lover. and very fond of some guy named Johnny walker!! . Poppy my wife myseself and our 3 daughters have all lived together ( 3 girls now married and gone . Poppy had his own ground level apt leading out to the pool he so loved. Poppys life over the last year was hell. He was in and out of the hospital about 4 times 3 of which he was never expected to make it through the night let alone on to rehab and then home again (Congestive Heart failure, Mesothelioma) but he fought to get home, Doctors and nurses would just shake their heads when they would come on to their shifts the next dsay and see Henry still with us and doing well enough to go home. My beautifull wife has been able to keep Poppy home for the last year through love and her out rite willingness to sacrifice her sanity and her career. poppy passed the daybefore yesterday. my wife my 3 girls and i spent about 30 straight hours in his hospital room befre he passed. My girls all held on to their Poppy as he left us. TThese girls just adored their Poppy, they all managed to find ways to come see him every single day in the last year. They even tought him how to use a Kindle which to me is amazing considering poppy was born in a time where he had his Tonsils taken out on the kitchen table for 8.00 dollars. It is unbelievable how many of the neighbor hood kids(adults now) have come here to tell their stories of spending their childhoods in the pool and alltheir memories of Poppy and just how easy he was to talk to. I sit here in my chair just looking at the door to Poppy's apt thinking how sad we all are and how this house will just never be the same ever again . To give you an idea, my oldest son in law has informed my wife he can not come into this house for fear of our whole family seeing him cry. He too while running his own business would always find time to stop in to see Poppy during the week. Healing will not be easy The man was truly adored.

Gods Speed to Poppy, healing will take a while, that is how it works. The special ones hurt the most. Sincere condolences to you and your family.

I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like he was a great fella and was lucky to have you and your family in his life. I don't think you ever get over the loss of someone like Poppy. My Dad passed 34 years ago and I still miss him a lot. I guess we just have to think of them in a better place with on pain. It seems to get a little better with time. Praying for you and your family.

Sounds like we lost one of the rare ones that keep getting more and more scarce.

Remember that he touched many lives that will be forever changed for knowing him. In that way, he will continue to live on through those he loved.

You're fortunate to have known him and to have him to help you across later when it's your time.
