Dad and I got two cows this morning only got two shots of this one nut deep in snow 600Ft out in a field. One shot each in the side of the head at around 200 yards. Good thing we were packing the anchor ropes to our boats. That makes 5 elk I shot this year with my 243 Winchester feather light 80Gr GMX. This was finally my tag on one all the others were for my partners. Think there still hoping I will rub off on them. Back to the fire place until tomorrow going to wack another one.

Pretty solid work with a 243!!!

Do they normally walk out into the open like that? You'll have to forgive me as I havent ever hunted up north. Hell I aint even seen snow but twice!!

Them new Hornady GMX or Barns XXX are the bullet to shot critters with. IF you recover a bullet it is 95-99% in tact. (I have used a few!). Any way yes they stay out in the open as log as possible this time of year. especially with all of this snow they burn to much energy going back and forth from food to bedding. Most of the time we shot them beside a bail sleeping or just looking at you. Here is a small heard of cows there was a 6x6 bull with this bunch but didn't get him in the photo from the F-150 blind. That day me and the boy seen at least 400 head of them out in the fields feeding. The biggest heard has around 100 head I seen so far.

I heard lots of good things about the SST's but from what I seen the 3-4 years I'm DONE with all other bullets.

Gibson's and Ginger ready for when the guns are done there work.

Yea Baby, good after the shot cocktail brother. Enjoy that meat. I have not had it since my Elk with a bow 12 years ago. I miss it big time.

We'll see.....the jury is still out. This is my first year using them and I havent found a bullet thats as fast and flat out straight as this one. BUT, both deer I dropped had huge exit wounds but I couldnt find a drop of blood. The same has also been said by several others. I still have 3 boxes though and Ima shoot every one of em......

As for the Gibsons......I went to put my rifle in the backseat of my pa-in-law's Kubota and the was no gun rack. Just a piece of Trex board with big holes cut in it. I said "what the hell is this and wheres the rack?" He said, "We upgraded to a bar unit, lift the curtain under the board."........You guessed it, a full bar in the back of the Kubota. I started crackin up.....We sat in the back and drank throughout the sun goin down on the top of a ridge with the rifles hangin out the window. We had a blast!!!

He's a member of my club down here now and Ive been tryin to convince him that we are missing something I just cant quite place what it is:pray:

That will do it every time calibre size is one thing but you have to be able to shot it first seems you got that part down pat as well. What does a deer down there dress out to weight wise. Some of the real big whitetails go 300Lbs a big mule deer can go over 350. I killed a big bull moose that went 225 a quarter (ugly) very tough eating.

Nah yall got us licked on that for sure!!! I live on the coast and the coastal deer here are small. A nice buck will dress 125 or so maybe a touch more. Once you get inland to the hills of GA then youll start seein closer to the 200's but its nothin like whats north of us. Also alot more pressure on em down here vs the land of long pants......
