Aloha from Hawaii! Just bought my first V20

Greetings everyone,

Just bought this 81 CC in Huntington Beach, Ca. As I type this, she is sitting at the Port of Honolulu waiting to be off loaded.
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/19...-20--CC-364826

I spent months looking for a clean vessel to bring to the Island, I feel blessed to find this one. Probably overpaid but I swear its the cleanest used boat I have ever seen. Especially since its 32 years old.

Had a Professional Marine Surveyor go through entire boat, all he could find was a very slight "flex" on the bow locker hatch.

Anyway, love this site, seems like a great group of folks and Im looking forward to sharing the V20 experience with all of you.

The teal green deck is sharp looking.
Good luck with it and enjoy your new V!

With that sticker on the back of the engine its was almost as if it was destined to be in the islands:beer:

Nice lookin boat! I had the same flex issues in both my lids. I doubled up two pieces of Starboard and problem solved. Best of luck with her!!!

phatdaddy 11-16-2013 12:09 PM

nice rig and a great place to use it. don't know who's luckier, you or the boat. we expect to see a lot of year round pics.

as far as cost, my dad always told me if the only complaint you have about something is the price, you got a deal...

Destroyer 11-16-2013 12:25 PM

Haha...that's what I thought. Sticker is a clear sign from the boat gods.

And, If you could post a pic of the deck lid fix, I would be most grateful.

Thanks, My wife was ready to kill me. She kept saying, "pick a D@mn boat already! LOL.:fight:

I was all ready to buy a 17' scout but when I got to Cali and saw it in person my spidey senses warned me away.

But hey, the hunt is half the fun!

Thanks for the reply Cam.

We dive and fish so this rig will get a workout but, I still want to try to keep her as pretty as she is today.

chumbucket 11-16-2013 01:52 PM

Welcome to the site. Having owned both the V20 Center Console and a 17' Scout, trust me, you'll be much happier with the V20.

Haole808 11-16-2013 02:17 PM

Thanks Chum, good to hear from experience.

Here is the link to the Mods I did on my CC. Included within are some recommendations you might consider(ESPECIALLY THOSE DECK DRAINS!!!). I'll try to get you better closeups of the lids but at least it'll give you an idea.....

Thanks so much! You've done a nice job.

Will definitely take your advice on the deck drains. Storms hit sudden and hard out here, so this seems like a must on my to do list.

Mahalo!

the daydreamer 11-17-2013 07:55 AM

RidgeRunner 11-17-2013 11:00 AM

Welcome aboard! Nice boat and Mahalo from a one time visitor to your beautiful state...

Haole808 11-17-2013 12:10 PM

Thanks Ridgerunner,

Wow, a 250 on your 83?! :oh:

Did you have to bulk up/modify the transom to handle that beast? I was under the impression 200 was max. on these rigs.

She must really fly..

I did modify the transom, but not necessarily for the 250. My free to me center console started life with a 235 Johnrude motor hung on a notched down transom. While having the liner out to fix the soft floor, my mind ran amuck and decided a full transom and motor on a bracket was what it needed. I added some tall knee braces to strengthen the transom. The 250 is too much motor for most conditions, 140 to 200hp is a plenty.

That's awesome, must be a lot of fun. Look forward to hearing from you in the future.
