The plan came together and we got a Mako at the Humpty Dumpty. Also an 11 pound dolphin.

Good job---nice catch--looking like some good eating.

Great work oh Skunky one! That is one good lookin' gaff! LOL

How much does that shark weigh? Any idea? We got one about that size to the boat memorial weekend and was curious how much it might weigh.

Beautiful job Skunk, good eats coming down the pike. Well done

Well it WAS a nice looking gaff before that mako bent the crap out of it!

We didn't weigh it. Actually we never really measured it good after it died. We held the tape close and it was over 60'. The NOAA table shows a 5 ft mako at 83lbs and 5.5 ft at 112lbs. That seems right cause we were guessing 90 to 100lbs.

It is beautiful meat. Kind of like swordfish.

Glad we got one that size because its a lot of meat and we are still working on the tuna!
Now I don't even have to think about boating a really big one.

Now I completed my list of SkunkBoat "To Catch". What next?

Can't really TARGET wahoo, sails, marlin, swordfish, cobia unless I tow down to Florida. Hmmmm?:head:

cmoney 08-20-2013 10:25 AM

nice catch

Blue_Runner 08-20-2013 10:52 AM

You don't need to go that far...just come down to Cape Hatteras. Load up on all that stuff plus some 50 lb yellowfins or 100 - 200 lb bigeyes.
:nice:

jasoncooperpcola 08-20-2013 12:50 PM

Congrats. That is on my bucket list. Whether by kayak or V20.

:nice:

well, I COULD target them here but I'd have to go to the Hudson Canyon 80-100 miles, and that's crazy!

With perfect weather forecast...Could probably trailer 90 miles down to Cape May NJ and get to the near edge of Wilmington canyon. Or go to OC MD and reach Baltimore canyon....hmmmm.

This is a sickness!

But my brother has a 29 Aquasport in a Pompano Bch and its a $200 airfare to catch swords and wahoo and such.

Blue_Runner 08-20-2013 02:52 PM

Ok, I say go the $200 route. :hide:
I'm faced with similar obstacles where I fish in SC. 30+ miles to bottom fish, 40 - 60 miles for grouper, snapper, wahoo, dolphin, billfish etc. except we do see sails in close sometimes. And the grouper, snappers, bsb move in closer in the colder weather - just as they're closing the season on them......

We go to Hatteras once per year. Weather is always hit or miss but we make it out a day or two. Nice to only have to run 20 miles to be in the gulfstream.

In Pompano you catch everything inside of 5 miles except swords. Them you have to go 15-20. If I had a V20 in Pompano, you would be seeing pix of swords, day & night. Hell, I could reach the Bahamas!

Kayak & a Mako? That's a scary thought!

Yeah, them S. FLA boys don't know how good they got it. Catching dolphin and still see people walking on the beach.

Nice Mako!

Did Captain Ahab give you that gaff?
