11..53 acres in Alaska........ can subdivide.

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Hey Oz and Skools and whoever else in the area like Blue, if you like to hunt and fish, and you wanted to move to North Carolina where would you move. We love the ocean but are worried about canes and being to close and we love mountains but don't want to end up with full winter type crap again.
I guess what I am asking is where in the state would you move if you had your pick?

reelapeelin 03-11-2006 11:20 AM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Skruu the canes...NC coast for sure...big town?...go to Wilmington...Beaufort NC...go visit and you won't have to decide...it'll be a no-brainer... ;) 8)...take your V20 and cruise the inland waters and close- shore out to Cape Lookout...you might not go back to Jersey to get your stuff!!...Pubah will be up visitin' YOU and you can let him swim your boat around... ::) ;D ;D ;D...

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

LOVE IT HERE 100000000%, Best place to live is here, i've been in 38 different states and the Carolina's has them all beat. Super fishing at out beach's and super hunting in the whole state. From where i live i can be in the mountains or beach's in 2 1/2 hours. RAP is right ifyou were to goto Beaufort NC you'd never leave. It's a quant little drinking town with a fishing problem lol. Swansboro just down the raod is same way. My place is inthe middle of those 2 at Emerald Isle. It's another great fishing area. Love it come down Willy. Willy it rarly snows either and if you want snow just ride to the NC mountains.

willy 03-11-2006 03:23 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Thanks guys, what about the hunting in that area, I run bird dogs and deer hunt . Trying to talk the CEO into moving out if I put my papers in and retire from PD. She works for ATT and would need to find a job down there and so would I. One kid in Penn State now (phew) and three to go.

Skools Out 03-11-2006 08:21 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

hunting's great of all types and you would make most money near RTP near Raleigh

willy 03-12-2006 01:13 AM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

The triangle your referring to right. It is still listed as the best or one of the best places to live in the country.
I kind of like going down now and looking for property, and moving down later.

reelapeelin 03-13-2006 11:49 AM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Spent some time at RTP testing at Underwriters Laboratories...Cary NC nice, but controlled & hi-$$$...all good area, but still way inland...not where I THINK a guy would be lookin' to retire close to some great fishin'...go COASTAL, Willy ;) ;D ;D...

Blue_Runner 03-13-2006 12:59 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Only problem with Beaufort, emerald Isle, wrightsville and wilmington is they are getting to be so darn expensive! Everything has went up soooo much in the past 5 years. I've been looking down around Southport between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach. Less developed and you can still get some good deals IMHO.

Skools Out 03-13-2006 01:05 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Hey a great still affordable coastal location is Harker's Island near Beaufort NC. that's where they build tons of Carolina Hull boats. Parker, Jarrett Bay and many others out there.

reelapeelin 03-13-2006 01:25 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Willy, look around in Calabash, Sun Set Beach, Ocean Isle area while you're down there... ;)...check out Ocean Isle Fishing Center on left just over bridge... 8) 8) 8)...go on their web site (I don't have it so you'll have to Google) and check out Capt Brant's reports...

willy 03-13-2006 02:46 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Thanks for all the info guys, I must admit I am really torn. My wife and I have been in the western part a few times with the kids, camping and such, Pisgah the Smokes and I (we) just love it. The mountains always make me smile. But I also love the boating and fishing, not just the salt either. Big fresh water lakes always catch my eye. So I am torn, maybe I can find the big inland lake with property on the water and hills all around and buy a small place down the shore to rent out and visit during the summers. Now there is a plan. ;D What is the big inland lake area or what is the best fishing inland lake in the state

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Franco I'm telling the wife Fla. and she is saying Canes, I can't get her mind comfy with it. I'm even telling her she won't have to go back to work and it's not working. I'm holding on to what might be the clincher though I've got that 8x10 color glossy of you. Thats my hold card what ya think ;)

Hey Willy, we didn't have a hurricane hit us here for over 50 years prior to 2004. Not bad odds! Which picture of me are you using as a hold card? I don't wanna give the wife the vapors.

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

I live in Beaufort and I would guess you would have to rate it an 8 with the Keys and Costa Rica Being 9's or 10's from the fishing end which is about as good as it gets in the old USA my opinion and you dont have to go out very far. Last year we had big smoker kings and dolphin just about a mile out of the inlet , big cobia in the shipping channel and turning basin and I saw a couple of drum under my dock just last night chasing bait fish. I would guess the bigger of the two was easily a 20 pounder. Hunting birds like quail or pheasants is put and take and has been for a long time like in a lot of other states. There is a small pheasant population on the outer banks and if you work hard you may flush 3 or 4 in a day if your dog can hold them. My chesapeake runs around in front of them and pins them and if I can get my *** moving when he does that, I can get a shot or two and there are also a lot of marsh hens that you can easily jump shoot . I got a few woodcock around the swamps and some wood ducks also.I've also seen lots of turkeys but they are much smarter than I am. Dove shoots are big here and there are lots of them. Last year we had big flocks of diving ducks but this year was too warm (Hot) and it was a bust . They do a lot of heavy duty goose and Swan hunting on some of the larger freshwater lakes and they do very well and I've already got an invite for next year and am looking foreward to it. Deer here are very small but there are lots of them and the National Forest has a number of parking lots and private deer clubs are always looking for members. Some are dog clubs and others are not. If you go up state in the farm country especially the peanut farms close to virginia you will see some NICE BIG bucks . The Carolina Sportsman has a classified section in the back with a lot of information about hunt clubs. No place is perfect for everything but I dont think you can beat the Beaufort area ( and I'm not from North Carolina) and if you want a moose you can always fly to alaska....Frank

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

I always loved New England MJ, my wife and I are in the Adirondacks every year and Vermont Maine and New Hampshire just about every year also, I tow a camper like you.
But as I have gotten older I have lost my interest in our weather anything past November here and feel I'm missing too much. And I just don't like the cold anymore. Never thought I'd be that way but it is true.
That area from northern Georgia South and North Carolina is just a fabulous region to me. And I would love to be down by Lord Franco but I don't think my wife is going that far south for some reason. Plus they are just building so much and there is so much traffic it's crazy. There are really nice areas still like where the Puhbah lives is fabulous but if your going you better get it soon ;)

reelapeelin 03-16-2006 03:38 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

Willy, I did some e-mailin' and lookin' around...Lake Jordan DOES have stripers!!...V20s right at home on big reservoirs like that...Mine gets salty sometimes, but chasin' stripes on big lakes like that is what my V20's set up for... :)...striper-fish in winter...booze-cruise all the Super Models layin' out on the docks in the Summer...sounds like a pretty good retirement to me... ;D ;D ;D...

Skools Out 03-16-2006 05:56 PM

Re: Gov. Home Auctions Look

that lake is heated too no joke. in the winter it's always warm near the dam. that lake is a cooling lake for power. warm water makes happy fish.
