Looks like I'm going to have to go under the knife(again).
2 Attachment(s)
Well I've been having some hip trouble here lately so I got into see an orthopaedic for it today. Says I have a hip impingent and a labral tear. I had basically destroyed my femur back in 01 in a car wreck, and he said this all goes back to that accident. The 1st rod they put in back in 01 broke at 11 months so in 02 they replaced it with an oversized and did a bone past graph to fill in the voids in my femur. The head of my femur didn't heal back correctly and has been cutting away at the cartilage and soft tissue in my hip, and now they want to go in and do a reconstruction of it essentially to shave the bone down, repair the cartilage, and try to clean and repair the soft tissue. So it looks like Christmas break for my wife will be taking care of me and our son as the doc says I will be on crutches for a minimum of 4 weeks. FUN FUN FUN. this one is my hip in 03, and the 2nd one is of it today. The pics aren't very good, but it didn't look good in person comparing them.

Good luck Ferm I feel your pain lately ....
|
Oh man, Ferm I hope they can do right for you. Is a total hip replacement not possible for you?
My Mom has had both of hers done and she is way overweight ( 9 kids) and it still got her around for over twenty years. |
Hope you get it built right this time Ferm. I know a few people who have had hip replacements and they are doing really well.
|
The doctor that put me back together the first time back in 01 said by the time I was 30 I would need a full hip, I'm almost 33 so I guess I've gotten my use out of it. The one I seen today would rather do a repair of my joint because once you go down the road of an artificial you can have a lot more bone problems down the road. I'm going to make a call tomorrow and see if I can get a 2nd opinion on it before I agree to let them do a repair because the X-ray from today looks to me like the actual ball is worn down and not just cartilage damage. All's I know is it FRIGGEN hurts to walk, and I won't even mention what it is like to try and crawl on the floor with an 11 month old.
|
Ferm, I have never been injured like that so I have nothing to compare it to, but if it's any consolation I feel really bad for you. I hope they get it fixed so you can live a normal, pain free life with your wife and baby. Good luck with the 2nd opinion..hope it works out for you. Prayers sent.

I'm no doctor, but I play one on wellcraftv20.com and based on those xrays, I'd say you are going to need an Addadicktome. And real soon!!!!!
Now go take a pain killer and wash it down with a glass of JD on ice and check with me tomorrow about payment for my professional (sort of) advice. In all seriousness Ferm, good luck with that. I hope they're able to fix that and relieve your pain. I can somewhat relate with my knee pains that I've been living with for the last several years. After having one replacement done which still isn't right and now they what to re-do that one plus the other knee, I'm apprehensive to say the least. But either way I'm in pain every day and it really sucks. So I feel for you and hope that you find relief. |
Serious stuff Ferman. Wish you well. That has got to be a painful ordeal. I suffer from back pain but am scared to undergo the knife. Best wishes and keep us posted.
|
I went through 6 operations on my ankle, spent way too much time in crutches and in pain.
I agree with the second opinion. get it right. Good luck! rkc |
Will be praying for your situation.
Hopfully they can get you where it doesnt hurt constantly...soon. |

Got my blue(permanent) handicap tag today, so I guess I can officially call myself a gimp. Got my appointment for the 27th to go and see the Dr that did my hip the first time, figure it was a good idea to go back to the person that did the first overhaul on me.
|
Sorry to hear of your problem!! But hope all goes well for ya!! Nice to get that Blue card, I got mine and makes things nice when going placves!!
Good Luck!! |

Just got back from the Doc who did my hip the first go round, and he doesn't think the first diagnosis was correct. He ordered 2 MRI's as he said he doesn't want to guess what is inside before he passes judgement on it. He did say he thinks it is not just my hip this go round. He thinks I have torn some cartilage in my knee, and I may also have some pelvis problems due to my groin being on fire.
So happy happy joy joy, looks like I'm in for another long round of fun with it yet again. |
Hate to hear this, it is time for some good news for a change. Hoping the MRI can get a better view of the issue so they can get you all fixed up. Hurting from prior injury just sucks. I do like the way this doc thinks, remove ALL the guesswork, do it right..
Hang in there, maybe it won't be as long as it has already been.. |
The best doctors always critique their own work and diagnosis first. The worst doctors act they got it all figured out from the get go
|
Good luck Ferm I hope he see's something doable for you. Wish you the best my friend. Been down this road myself and I get it.
|
Its great you are 2nd guessing them for the best you can get! I have tolded and yelled at my wife as I always say no one knows you like you!! She has also had many surgeries, and every time she is good with what ever the doc says, and has had trouble at times! I said what dis yiu say yes for? You had big issues the last time, she says well the doc says..... I say screw him it did not work the lat time so what makes you think its going to work now?
Any way hope all goes well for you!! |

Good luck and take care!! |
Got the MRI done today, and lets just say I would rather be water boarded than go through that again. I'm not exactly a small guy, so imagine being stuck down to my arms in a tube for 25 minutes while sitting completely still for 25 minutes with your leg weighted down and held in place with sand bags and towels propping it up. Then after this fun you get to have the REAL experience of being stuffed inside a cannoli for 30 minutes to have the hip scans done. There wasn't enough room inside the tube for my arms to lay at my side without being wedged against the walls of the MRI machine, and keep in mind those walls get HOT during the scans. Once you get wedged in they have to come back and stuff cushions between you and the tube so you don't get burned. And once your in there you can't bring your arms up because there isn't enough room between your chest and the top to squeeze them out. And during the 30 minute scan remember the tube is hot, so your pouring sweat from your back. And after all this they tell me there was so much metal in my hip that the hip scans didn't really come out and all you can see is the metal. Hopefully it wasn't a total waste and the doc can see what he is looking for in them next Tuesday when I go back in.

I hear ya ! MRI's are not pleasant I have been thru 5 of them due to back , knee & shoulder surgerys . Try to find one called a PANCAKE MACH. its an open model (NO TUBE) much more easy to deal with, I had to drive 50 miles to mine but well worth it Good luck hope your up and healthy soon
|
Damn, I couldn't do that one. Bright side is it is behind you now. Hang in there brother.

The only one I could get to before my next appointment was the tube one. it was not a fun experience. The whole time I'm sitting there I'm waiting for my bones to explode because when I had all this stuff put in they said to NEVER even go around one, let alone in one. I mean it isn't safe to have my metal cane in the room with the machine on, but 14 pounds of stainless inside me is fine.
|
Lets not forget about the NOISE!! They gave me ear plugs last time.

Went back to the doctor today that did the original work, and he says he now agrees with the 1st doctors opinion after reviewing the MRI. He also referred me back to the 1st doctor as he recommended arthroscopic surgery as it will be less invasive with a shorter recovery, and the 1st doctor I went to specializes in arthroscopic. So now the waiting game until I can get it done. Want to wait until January as I have a $3K deductible on our insurance per year(resets every year on January 1st), and if they need to go back in a few months after for something else, I would rather pay it only once.
|
Hope everything goes as well as it can for ya Ferm.
|
Just called the Dr's office and hopefully I can get this done before the end of the year. Courtesy of obamacare, we now have a $5500 deductible starting next year VS having it done now and a $500 copay. So for $5000 I can afford to put some things off and have it done this year. Hopefully I will find out today if they can get me in this year or not.
|
Hope it works out for ya!!
|
But, but it's the "Affordable Care Act". It's supposed to be "affordable". :cen:
That's not even funny. Good luck Ferm. Hope it works out for you. |
Best of luck Ferm with both the procedure and the insurance BS.
|
I go in Monday to schedule the surgery with the Doc. His assistant says they should be able to get me in this year, so that will save us $5000 if they can.
|
Hope it works out for you my Friend, it is scary going under the knife, been there and have done that a few times. Good luck Brother
|
Praying it all works out for you Therm.
|
Mazel tov my friend. Best of luck. Lets hope this is the last time.
|
Well it was good news bad news time today. After a 2 hour wait in the crowded waiting area with a tired toddler(couldn't get a babysitter today, so I had to take him with me), I got to the back. Told him I needed it done this year for insurance reasons and I got "Another obamacare victim" response from him. He's booked up until the 1st because of everybody trying to get in before they lose there policies. His assistant said he had a cancelation for this Thursday, so I'm trying to get everything together so I can get it done. Hopefully I can get all the redtape and paperwork sorted out and get in to get this done as the meds aren't working very well anymore(not to mention the extra $5000 it will cost me come January 1st).
|
We'll say some more prayers for ya Ferm. Hope it all works out.
|
Good luck buddy...be persistent and hang in there. It'll work out one way or another.
