hey Blue Runner

The rockfish are starting to do there thing at the mouth of the bay and oceanside. Let's plan a trip soon come on up and leave your boat at home and fish on the Albemarle with us.

Stinky_Hooker 12-21-2012 10:20 AM

Well I think its pretty crappy that I cant come too.

Kracker Jack 12-21-2012 06:00 PM

Stink you are welcome on my boat anytime my friend. We got a pretty good blow a brewing as we speak but we will fishing hard in the next couple days!!!!

RWilson2526 12-22-2012 11:06 PM

yea whats up with that? I want to come too

Blue_Runner 01-02-2013 01:51 PM

Wow, thanks for the offer Matt! I've been offline since 12/20 on Christmas and New Year vacation! How has it been so far?

Blue_Runner 01-02-2013 02:02 PM

Just got back from visiting 3 sites - 2 charter boat sites and tidalfish. Ocean reports are not looking good for this time of year from what I can tell. However I did see where as of 1pm today 5 boats off Cape Henry were hooked up to BFT!

I'm thinking I will probably outfit my boat with a bow mount trolling motor and fish hard on High Rock Lake for the stripers. I figure I can go there (10 min.) and get skunked a lot cheaper than I can go to the coast and get skunked! LOL

Kracker, I will PM you my #. If things pick up I may have to hop in the wife's little passat and point it north! Been so long I forgot what striper tastes like. :head:

randlemanboater 01-03-2013 09:20 PM

Let me know when you are going to try for stripers on HR...I want to learn how to do that...Badin may be better, not sure.

Blue_Runner 01-04-2013 08:00 AM

RB - definitely. One of the guys I fish with has taken us 5 times over the past 2 months. We even fished a tournament about 2 weeks ago. In all those times we have had one knock down that did not stick. We're slow trolling live bait on his 19' carolina skiff w/ electric trolling motor - 4 flat lilnes out the back (2 w/ splitshots) and 2 planers off each side for a total of 8 rods. Big fish in the tournament was a little over 11 lbs, released alive for an extra $100. I really want to outfit Blue Runner with i-pilot and all the fixins. A saltwater minkota would be sweet too for taking to the coast...hope I'm not just wishful thinking!?!? I'm trying to wrap up a big project at the house so it will have to wait until that is taken care of. If I ever get it done we'll go and I will be happy to show you what has been shown to me. Or anybody else that wants to go for that matter.....

Kracker Jack 01-05-2013 12:34 PM

Big tournament this weekend Blue. We decided not to fish. Way to many knuckle heads for us to deal with at our ramp. Plus not one fish was weighed in yesterday during the tournament. We don't know what's going on but a lot can happen in just days so we have our fingers crossed for this week.

Kracker
Keep me informed I'm planning to fish also but thought I'd wait until I heard they had showed up in the ocean.

I can go pretty much anyday, just have to take off work.
We can either go together or take both boats.

You are not far from me at all. I will let you know, we like going in the middle of the week. It filters out alot idiots!!!!! pm me your number if you dont mind. My brother works for the Virginia Pilot association so he works at cape henry in the tower bringing container ships in and out of the bay so he sees and hears all the action. He is also tight with some charter guys out of rudee so we get the whole report from both sides. they caught them pretty good about 2 1/2 weeks ago and we thought they were gonna break loose then but they faded out. you are welcome to fish with us anytime. Anyday its gonna turn up.its perfect scenario now, we just just dont want it to cold snap on us to bad or else they will turn the corner out of the bay and head south in a hurry and skip us!!!lol!!

Kinda got in the soup this morning. The albemarle had it coming over the hard top.

Kracker Jack 01-12-2013 11:23 AM

Hey Shane and garagenc, the striper bite has been excellent the past 2 days. Boat limiting out on stripers in the evening. Bite doesn't really start till afternoon. We fished this morning and had our alternator go bad on us, but when we left 4 boats to the south rudee were in deep battle with big tunas and the striper bite was starting to turn on. Shane kinda glad you didn't come today, would hated to have you on the boat and cut fishing trip short due to mechanical issues.

Blue_Runner 01-14-2013 08:50 AM

Good news on the bite picking up. Sorry about the alternator. Just one of those things that can happen....

garagenc 01-15-2013 06:27 PM

Krack
I'm thinking of going to Rudee Friday, keep your ears open and give me a fishing report Thursday.

Do you want to go?
Thanks Lee

Stillrunning 01-16-2013 11:18 AM

From everything I have heard the stripers are hitting. It sucks because of the bad reports I decided to pull my drive last week. I'm replacing the u joints, gimble bearing, and a few other things but I checked and the motor (mercruiser 5.7) needs to be aligned. That made me notice the moter bases need to be replaced. ALways something but I should have it all done this weekend so maybe I'll be in the water next week.

BTW: Remember if your fishing for tuns you need a tuns lic. to keep one.
