ford exploder

I can't recall anyone I know who had one and didn't have to put a tranny in it

lathehand 12-18-2012 09:10 PM

Two words RUST BUCKETS from experance

Monkey Butler 12-18-2012 09:39 PM

Confirm the Exploder is a POS.

What are you looking for? Seating capacity or 4wd?

Lots of cheap minivans out there on a lot better chassis for short money.

4WD? Look at a Chevy Traker/Suzuki Vitara. 1999+. It has its issues but you can find good deals in your price range ...

My Son just Junked his 2000 Ford Exploder (Boom) they are junk from the day they were made, I have known a few! My brother use to own one and that 2 was a POS!! We don't call them EXPLODER'S for nothing!

One of my best days was finding out ours had just been totaled...thankfully on one injured...it had a V-6 and was as big a gas-suckin' SOB as I could ever imagine...RUN, Charlie...RUN!!...:cen::cen::cen:

I have two 4 cyl Camrys I paid 3500 apiece for...for that amouint of money, it's the best car you can buy...

charlie_the_tuna 12-19-2012 06:22 PM

reel, i agree with the camry being the best CAR money can buy. i had two of them. sorry i got rid of the last one. but i want something that will tow a trailer. what do you guys think about the ram? late 90's to early 00's. also need at least an extra cab for the kids. commute-wise, i drive about 4 miles a week so economy isnt an issue. looking at some of the late 90's suburbans but if i get a hi-miler and blow the motor after a couple thousand miles my wife'll have my a$$.

UBHSTRY 12-19-2012 06:36 PM

Tough to go wrong with a Toyota. Explorers, well I can't dispute what the others said.

phatdaddy 12-19-2012 06:40 PM

gotta agree with monkey b, not the coolest ride, but plenty of room and towing capability, look at the chevy minivan. i think it is the astro or gmc safari built on a truck frame, rear wheel drive.
i would avoid a dodge pu(i have driven them since 72) because of the tranny issue, cracking interior, and low resale. they make sense for me because i run them till they are completely gone around 250,000-300,000 miles.

macojoe 12-19-2012 07:04 PM

Ram POS just ask CB!! My brother had the astro van and got rid of it at 279'000!! I am a GM guy al the way!!

my 02 with 190000 when i sold to a friend and now has 231000

my 08 GMC was ok but the transfer case kept breaking so dealer took back with 30000

my current 09 now with 50000 and i love it!

Unless someone is giving you one, I'd stay away from an "Exploder".

Down this way there are plenty of mid to late 90's Suburbans for around your budget with plenty of miles left on em. Come on down and pick one up.:sand:

W/the extra-cab you need, buy as much Ford F-150 or Chevy 1500 as you budget allows...my Fi50 just turned over 300,000 and goin' strong!
