Salmon... From start to finish
First Salmon trip out of Northern CA today. (My buddy's boat, not the V). We fought the fur bags... ummm I mean the sealions for much of the day. Anyway, the pictures'll tell the tale.
Small silver salmon that would have been released... well I released what was left of him after the fur bag grabbed him on the way in. "Swim", I said to him, "It's just a flesh wound." http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/P1070298.jpg The one small 27" king salmon I kept for the day. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/P1070299.jpg Fresh salmon steaks in my secret marinade. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/P1070314.jpg Grilled FRESH salmon with alder smoke. Absolutely one of the best things around. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/P1070319.jpg |

Re: Salmon... From start to finish
A guys boat is his baby. Not my choice of boats but the 19'er runs well and handles fairly rough condition without problems. NOT a dry ride in chop.

Man that looks like some good eats.....my mouth is watering.
Do you ever hook the sea lions? I bet they would put up a good fight. |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
Damm, I gotta stop eating oodles of noodles and need to stop over at Tuna's for Dinner more often. ;D
Great Pics. Bro. ;) Hell, you could have over nighted the fish and we could of had it today before the boys rolled out of town. ;D Thanks again for the dinner in Lewes Tuna. ;) |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish

Re: Salmon... From start to finish
hey tuna where are the sealion pictures?
we dont get a helluva lot of them on the east coast. by the way, i dont want to scare you but theres some lunatic holding your fish. |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
if thats you tuna, dont you ever smile ?
|
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
CTT,
I am smiling. Although at just that moment I was thinking "Gosh, I wish I hadn't had that second chorizo burrito for breakfast..." About the lunatic thing... very observant. Most people don't get that until the meet me in person. (It's the drooling I think). About the fur bags... Truth is that I only dislike the sealions when they steal my salmon. The first picture was the second fish of the day. The first was pretty cool... another silver salmon, maybe 4-5 pounds came to the boat. I released it without lifting it out of the water and it swam away strongly. Seconds later a bull sealion, maybe 400 pounds or so errupted from the water 10-15' away from the boat with the salmon in it's mouth and blood spilling into the water. Bummer for the fish but very cool to see. |

Nice trip Tuna.
Thanks for the dinner in Lewes, even though I could not attend. Anyway CTT, we don't get sealions, but we do get seals. I was in De bay last year at one of the flounder spots and I saw what looked to be a bald guy in a wet suit swimming by. A harbor seal. I think he was chasing all the fish away, cause we didn't catch sh1t. |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
yeah parish we get the harbor seals here too.
they come in for the herring and stay till about april. but seeing a sealion actually take your fish must be something else. the seals up here just lay around all day. |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
plus we dont get dolphin either.
we see them now and again but thats way out in the blue water. |
Re: Salmon... From start to finish
