Health update
As I have said the Gastro Bypass has done its part, I am now 180 # from 340 # this time last year! High blood pressure gone, a 400 cholesterol now 150, 21 years Diabetes gone, all meds gone! Doc says great!!
But the diabetes is still killing me off! My eyes had bleeds and they were stopped with lazer treatments over the years. But that caused a lot of scaring which caused detached retinas, so they fixed them over the last year, but that causes cataracts, so I have had one fixed but still waiting on the other. Not as good result as Doc wanted but it is still much better! I an still having problems with my blood pressure dropping when I stand, which made me fall on the dock the other day. :cen: Thats being treated but its not much better, Doc says that it should burn its self out and get better with time?? I getting sick of waiting! The last thing is Kidneys they are at about 18% and Doc is sending me to Boston June for blood typing and other stuff to add my name to the kidney transplant list. He says I am close to needing Dialysis but not yet. I have had my veins mapped out already so they are ready to put ports in my arm when ready. I have a brother that has said he will donate a kidney to me, but we have to get all the testing done to see if we are a match? So all this has kept me from posting as much as use to, and not sure how much fishing I will do again this year? But I am trying! I am also driving CB nuts calling him all the time to talk! He is one guy I have meet thur the internet, that is a true friend! And I appreciate very very much! Just incase I never said it to you CB !! Ok I have rambled on long enough!! Thanks for listing guys! |

Don't worry about rambling on. Speaking for myself and I'm sure the rest of us it's great to hear how you're doing. Prayers will continue to be sent for your speedy and continued recovery. Hang in there guy. |
Good to hear that you're gaining ground on your health issues.
Blood pressure dropping when you stand is a classic symptom of adrenal problems, specifically low cortisol. Mainstream medicine overlooks the endocrine system as the cause of much of what ails us. Your adrenal glands produce 150+ hormones, and control blood pressure, insulin resistance, cholesterol, mineral balance and much more. Why they're pretty much ignored by the mainstream baffles the **** out of me. There is a simple and inexpensive test to check your cortisol - http://www.amazon.com/AM-Cortisol-Ho.../dp/B004BT8FGC Be well. |
I'll bet you've checked best diet and food choices for diabetes.
The super foods and such. I wish you well. |
It's been a long process and still a long road ahead. Take it slow.
My available time can be busy, but if there is a way I can help to get you out fishing again soon, let me know. I am sure I could learn a lot from a pro... rkc |
hang tough ,mj. sounds like you've turned the corner.

I think you guys misread MJ's post or he didn't effectively voice his issues. While the gastric bypass has helped his Diabetes issues, he has so many other new issues going on that, at times he feels he was better off being overweight and still injecting insulin.
He hasn't turned any corner and isn't gaining any ground on his health issues and the doctors really haven't come up with any answers as to what's going on. These issues have lefty MJ sidelined to the point where he cannot work anymore. He cannot get out on his boat unless his son or someone goes in order to do most of the work with regards to getting in and out of the water. It's a tough situation for sure. |

Just know all here are thinking about you and pulling for your recovery...a day at the time, MJ...a day at the time... |
Thanks everyone!
Cb has it right, there are days better then others, and I know that this was for the better, but I sometimes think it would have been better to be fat and strong, then skinny and sick. I know this is a long road but I get sick of waitting for it. My job has been great! I am out of work for a year today, and they for the most part payed me for all of it! I just wrote them a letter and got papers from doctor so they will extend my time out, not sure how much longer they will go?? but the pay has stopped at this point but they will hold the job a bit longer. I hate to jump on the wagon with the rest of the country and go on disability, but I have started the app. for it, I think this is the only way to make?? I most likely able to get on it 5 years ago, but did not want to jump on that wagon, but now i have to. Quote:

As to the fat and healthy as opposed to thin and sick comment, I think I might have to disagreee with some of it. The point is, you were dying when you were fat and not so healthy. The diabeties was slowly killing you, and you know it. It's the still lingering effects of that sickness that are with you today and I would bet that they are causing most of your problems. I know you are right Destroyer, but I just get feeling down at times. Hoping that with a bit more time things wil turn around? Heck I abused my body the first 49 years and expect it to be perfect in just a few months.
As far as getting on disability goes, I have always did it on y own till now, I see so many kids today saying they are Bipolar and a host of other stupid crap, sucking off the system, that i don't want to be one of them!! But i told the lady at th SS office that hopefully this is going to be a temporary thing? and being a state worker I guess I will have to use up my retirement fund before i get ss as i don't pay state taxes, it goes in retirement fund instead. Still learning how this works?? Thanks for all the good wishes everyone, and hope i can post some good news at some point! |
MJ,
I am pretty dense anyways but I didn't have a clue about the extent of many of your personal health issues. I'll just hope and pray that in the very near future all the health issues can take a back seat to what you really want to think about. Has anyone ever thought about a Buzzards Bay raftup? |

It was spoke of once before but died off pretty quick?? But I am sure that was because no one here grabbed the ball and ran with it! We would need to find camp grounds, hotels and a launching point for all that would like to come. It would be great to do! |
Well this reminds me of an old joke.
Two guys from the V20 forum are talking about a raft up. One says to the other "you should try to make it... there will be music, drinkin', dancin' and probably later on some real hot sex". The other guy says "That sounds like a blast, Count me in! So who will be there?" "So far it's just you and me." Okay then, who's in... |
Me!
