Epic red drum fishing.

The Chesapeake Bay red drum fishing has been the best I have ever seen over the past 2 weeks. *Many 10 to 20 fish nights with as many a 33 fish caught in a single outing. *Fished last night with 3 guys who had never caught a red and ALL including 7 year old Jack caught fish. *Will post a few pics. later, going over to Wachapreague for an early supper..

Smaller fish last night. everything was in the 40 to 44 inch range but plentiful. *2 double headers including one father & son hook up. 8)

D-Man, Im just getting warmed up! *Gonna hit em hard this week! *

Yes these are all catch & release. *We used to be able to keep one but not anymore. *Its a shame, one wouldnt hurt the population I dont think but I would release 99% of them anyway. *Killed too many when I was young and dumber..
Going again tonight and Monday night if the wind stays down.

Airslot: *Let me know if you want to try one afternoon. My boat & you bring the crabs. 8) Caught all these fish on live hard crabs.

I fished on my buddies Maycraft last night and caught 5. :) I finaly got some Red paper with a 49" hog of a fish ;D It's sweet to be able to catch and release a fish like that. My buddy Steve got a 47" release. The other 3 fish were 42", 44", and 43" ;D ;D ;D. Unfortunatly Steves camera wouldn't flash so no pics.

Re: Epic red drum fishing.

If you are eating a Red Drum longer than 28" you in violation of the law. I have eaten large Red Drum when it was legal to keep them and I would say that they don't taste as gamey as a Striper. All fish caught last night on my Steve's boat were released alive and kickin. I even got a shower from 1 of them.

Comparing them about the same. The smaller the better.
If you got to step on one to make it legal they are the tastiest. :D

some real nice lookin reds there bud! bet they pulled a little, huh. i'm wondering what you catch them on up there? how deep?

here in the deep south we can catch on most anything but, live crab seems to work best. shrimp are good too, especialy behind a poppin cork. as far as lures go, its tuff to beat a good ole gold spooon. rubber cocahoe work well. and when the water is mirky, believe it or not, a spinner outta the fresh water drawer works well.
we get 'em in any where from .5 to 50 (bout as deep as you gonna find here) feet of water. bigger fish usualy in the deeper water. but in the fall it not uncommon to pull 40 pounders outta 6 inches of water!

and F.Y.I., here in ms, we can keep 3 perp erson under 28 (good eatin size) and 1 bull per boat per day. i dont keep the big ones though. dont eat as well and usualy full of worms.

fill us in. i wondering how they differ up thier.

Werd...you can keep one over 26" here, but I personally wont keep any over 24".

Eating wise they are great, especially 16-22" size. I like to cook them on the grill on the half shell.

I like to season with tony's, lemon or lime pepper, a little thyme.

I grill till meat is almost done then baste with butter and some rooster booster(lea & perrins marinade for chicken) till it's done. Then add some jalapeņos and cover in shreded parmesan cheese. Let it warm till the cheese starts to melt . Run a spatula under the meat and it slides right off the "shell".

i use about half and half, worscheshire(?) and lemon juice with a little this and that (garlic, dill weed, lemon pepper, etc..) marinade for bout 15 min. then grill 'em till the meat starts to curl away from the skin on the edges.

Twisted,

Live crabs was the bait. Anchored in 23' of water last night. We had a great time, but nobody wanted to play last night...thats why they call it fishing instead of catching...
