Trim tabs on V boat - absolutely !!
Today's run on the ocean in a good 2'-3' chop confirms - tabs greatly improve the ride.
I'm now able to run over 4,000 rpm into this type head sea condition without pounding. The tabs make a bigger difference for the V than my previous Mako. Wellcraft should have had tabs as a standard feature, not as optional equipment. |
Bennett trim tabs - but size ? Already forgetting - 8 x 12 sport model sounds right.
|
I'd love to put tabs on my v, but my god you have to pull a small loan to afford em!!! Lol!!!!

yea Budget boats. I just talked to a guy I found on craigslist who has a yard full of boat stuff Im gonna call him tomorrow and see what he has.
|
i was a por guy back in the V days and never put them on, and always wished i could!! on the sea ox i have now i spoke with a guy and he old me a story from the owner from the sea ox factory.
He said back in the 80's he had a friend that sold boats and sea ox was doing demo's to dealers to sell there boats, so he went with his friend and watched them take a new sea ox and drop it off a fork truck with no problems, then they took the same boat put in water and gave all a ride. guy was so impressed he bought one! but when he got it and went out it rode like crap?? he called sea ox and told them, they asked what are the trim tabs set at?? he said i did not get that option, owner said put tabs on and if not happy i will buy it back including the tabs. guy bought them and took boat out again sold the boat 18 years later!! after hearing that story i never ran mine with out them, they were the first thing i added, and boat is great! i have been on greater boats for sure but this rides great, and i am happy with all my upgrades and she is very stable in the slop for me and mine! |
I was " digging through the chop" on the ocean yesterday, bow down and throttle up between 4,000- 4,5000 rpm.
Engine trimmed all the way down - slicing and cutting through the waves that were mostly 2'- 3' with a couple of bigger sets every minute or so. Could feel the boat torqueing through........... getting lousy fuel economy for sure, but those tabs kept it from pounding and slamming. That's the whole purpose of the tabs. |
Kracker-
Just PM'd you. There is a set in Portsmouth. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/boa/2990338423.html -Svence |

Well I'm confused BGREENE, trim it up and skip it or trim it down and let the V20 eat???
Anyway, if I was to go and get new tabs installed and ready to go, what would it cost? |

Not sure we understand each other...... If trying to squeeze out the maximum top speed - your tabs are up, and motor is trimmed up just to the point of losing grip. If the boat begins to porpoise ( bow going up and down) you'd trim the engine down just a touch. Otherwise, the tabs just provide more adjustment to the ride - but primarily to keep the bow down in various degrees, so the most forward " cutting edge" of the hull cuts through the waves, keeping the boat from lifting up and pounding down through a chop. Cost ? It's around $ 500 total as I recall for complete Bennett Trim Tab kit. |
Wow! I was a day late in refreshing this page! Kracker and Destroyer scored! Good looking out for the boys!
If you guys happen to run across another set of Bennetts for sale at a great price, please let me know.. :-) |
Every day on the ocean is different - today riding right into morning chop of mostly 2' and some 3' ...... and again v pleased with the tabs.
No pounding. Very nice ride. |
If anyone eyeballs a good deal for a set of tabs in South Florida or eBay, hit me up with a PM. I would love to add a set to mine. Boats coming along real nice now and I'd like to finish it off with as many bells and whistles as mama will let me by. (Or I can sneak)

Just a little tab cuts the " bang, bang, bang" of pounding through 2' etc messy chop to slicing through nearly NO pounding. I mean NO pounding. If you tab a little more, it's really knifing through softly. Avoid maximum down tabs through bigger steep seas or you'll gets some waves to break over the bow. That's only if you're being silly with it......... |

Here is a shot of the placement I did--work great--worth every penny for sure on this boat.
Do not limit yourself ---look for Lenco electrics as well. |
Genie that is where I will have to put my tabs. Do you think the strake interferes any with them? My bracket is 41" wide so that takes a huge chunk of transom.
|
No problem crossing the strakes - and says so with the Bennett Tab installation data too.
