WOOO! 2V's for meeeeee!!

Well I just picked up another center console. Best friend owns a boat dealership(http://www.oystercoveboatworks.com/) and he picked this up for the motor. He offered the hull and trailer to me for practically nothing!
Its a project but Im going to give it to my 11 year old son. He has a '70s 15' Thunder Bird tri-hull with a 70 Merc that will fly...infact it is to fast for him.
Im going to make this a father-son project, hang his 70 in the back when its done and let him go. I think that motor will put it on plane...maybe 20 mph. As he grows and gets a job I'll help him bump up in HP.
This boat needs some transom work, some deck hatches and paint....T-Top thing is gonna be the first thing to go
The trailer is in great shape!!

Congratulations to you both, good deal!!
Any thoughts yet in the future wanting a 25" transom?
Hate to see you dig into it again.

draglink 04-05-2012 03:09 PM

THANKS!!!! Well Im hoping to get away with a plate and some fiberglass for a couple years....then its going to be a full transom job and we'll go 25"

The PO had a 150 OptiMax on it...I jumped on the cav plate and got a little movement, but its not toast just yet

tsubaki 04-05-2012 03:12 PM

Good job. You've got the planning in order.
Just didn't know what "transom work" involved.

Oh, you gotta keep pictures coming!

Blue_Runner 04-05-2012 03:31 PM

For your son huh? Yeah right! Did you get your wife a new fishing reel for Christmas? LOL

Just messin....I love it!

Kracker Jack 04-05-2012 04:33 PM

Sweet find!!!!! Could I ask you for a favor? Would mind the next time your by that boat the measure the bow platform(bow cap) from the front of the bow to the front side of that radius. I'm just looking for some factory specs on how long that bow deck(bow cap) platform is. I would truelly appreciate it.

HAHAHAHA!!! Yeah when I pull a project home, its usually the first time she has heard anything about it....I get yelled at once and then its over.

BUT--I have a comfortable motorhome to sleep in if need be!

tartuffe 04-05-2012 08:19 PM

Thats a good looking boat! It looks longer than a 20 in the pics but they always seem to. Thats a nice console as well. It looks a good bit wider than mine.

RidgeRunner 04-06-2012 07:07 AM

I noticed it has the flat cap. That is one of the best looking model years for the center console IMO. Good luck with it, I am sure your son will love it.

Blue_Runner 04-06-2012 08:30 AM

Hey when he gets a little older, just slide the 70 over and hang another one on there!

gw204f 04-06-2012 09:43 AM

Nice find!

That tower thing would look better if it the angled legs were in the back.

draglink 04-06-2012 05:30 PM

T-top thing gone....bow rail gone. I want to trade consoles!

I would be very interested in that bow rail. Is it in good shape?

I am going to try to run up there this afternoon...if I do I'll look at it closer & snap some pics for you. You are welcome to it if you want it!

Very cool! I'm only about 45 minutes south of you. When I get this v together we should get together. I've never explored that end of the bay before.

Brought the 'PapaSmurf' home 2 weekends ago. The nickname and the color will be changed!. We are leaning towards an ice blue for final color....but thats a loooong way off. We got her stripped. T-Top and rail will stay off. Console needs to come up to remove factory tank. I would like to find a smaller console. Im going to check Budget Boats in Chesapeake

Progress pics....my son is SUPER excited!!

in driveway

Dang, I'm likin it a lot better stripped!

Kracker Jack 04-30-2012 03:00 PM

Hey Drag, there's a guy on va beach craigslist with a console . It's brandnew and never had a hole drilled in its the same height as yours but its narrower. Search under boat parts. I will look for it tonight when I get home

Kracker Jack 04-30-2012 03:07 PM

Just found it! Dam I love my smart phone!!!! Hes up there by you in williamsburg. Search "boat parts, console seats, top, etc." And his add will pop up. The console is cheap!

draglink 04-30-2012 04:00 PM

Hey Kracker thanks...just found it!!!! I have emailed him for measurements.
The bow rail i took off is yours if you want it. It has a few dings:

Kracker Jack 04-30-2012 08:29 PM

I'm still second guessing having a rail. I do a lot of wreck fishing and a bow rail is a real pain in the butt!!!! And on the other hand my 5 year old will be fishing the most with me on a regular. I'll pm you in a couple days so I can think about it. It would be a great excuse to come up and have a beer!!!!!

draglink 05-02-2012 04:49 PM

Yeah the exact reason I always take them off. Va law says nobody can sit up there while underway nowdays...so its not worth the trouble to stumble over it!

Heck you can come have a beer either way...I want to come check your project out first hand....looking GREAT!!

draglink 05-13-2012 10:46 AM

My son and I did some sanding and some glass work on Sat. The transom is in pretty good shape. I would say it has about 5 years since it was replaced. There are a few places that need attention on it. The pics were taken for profiling purposes, thats why no mask...I made him wear long sleeve shirt and full mask when sanding!!

PROUD CAPT!!!!!

Kracker Jack 05-13-2012 04:55 PM

How old is he? 10 or 11? I was that age when my dad had his v20!! And he has his own, that is so cool. Now put him to work!!!! LOL!!!

draglink 05-14-2012 06:40 AM

He is 10...11 on July 1st. He has a 15' ThunderBird now. I couldnt pass up the deal on this old V and trailer So its a father/son project.

This thing had the gas tank in the console....FULL OF WATER!! The PO wasnt using it at the time but that thing had to weigh 300 lbs easy!!:head:

draglink 05-20-2012 04:07 PM

Well on Sat we redid some patches on the hull. It looked like the PO had taken a 6" x 8' piece of crappy fiberglass cloth, dipped it in resin, slapped it along the bow/keel, waited 15 mins and went fishing! I was a little worried about what I would find, but it was just worn gel coat from years of beaching...wheeew!

Lots of sanding and gringing, some new glass and that is done. Tucked her in the garage last night....rain from Alberto is moving in today and I have some glass work to do in the bilge....

Cars out, V in

Kracker Jack 05-20-2012 08:42 PM

Man I see surf racks and a sweet long board hanging in the garage!!! we need to get together and surf my man. wind is suppose to come out of the sw tomorrow or tuesday so the surf should be insane.
