More jobs go overseas...

Keep your eye on Waukesha,Wisconsin...... Their biggest employer just moved out. :bat:

General Electric is planning to move its 115-year-old X-ray division from Waukesha , Wis., to Beijing, China. In addition to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in Chinaand train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is the same GE that made$5.1 billion in the United Stateslast year but paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it doesin the United States.
So let's get this straight.
Obama appointed GE Chairman Jeff Immelt to head his commission on job creation (job czar).Immelt is supposed to help create jobs. I guess Obama forgot to tell him in which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs.

Thanks Jeff, you're a "real" American....give Barrack our Best !!
If this doesn't show you the total lack of leadership of this President, I don't know what does.

I think that the number of jobs that have been created in recent months outnumber those that have left out nation.this economic downturn didn't happen over night or even in a couple of years for that matter.I personally didn't think that it would ever recover in a period of a few years either.sad though to see the loss of those jobs.

There's an old saying that figures lie and liers figure. The fact is that we are not in a recovery. We're losing jobs every day to China and other overseas countries. Our actual unemployment figures are closer to 15-18%. They (Washington) are skewing the numbers by not counting people that are unemployed and have used up their unemployment benefits... so since they are not drawing unemployment they are not counted as unemployed anymore. The actual number of people unemployed is much higher than what's being reported.
Additionally, they cut back the figure on the number of jobs available here in the US. They say that since the jobs have left, and there's little hope of them returning, then they don't have to count them as missing, and so therefore, since the number of unfilled jobs has shrunk, we are in an upturn. It's all a pack of lies.. We're still in a downward spiral and it's getting worse, not better. My God, wake up and smell the roses people... get informed!!!

Blue_Runner 02-09-2012 03:07 PM

Immelt is the CEO of GE. CEO performance is tied to profits. Well guess what? US based companies have figured out that they can be MORE profitable by using OFFSHORE resources! I don't see how anyone can blame this man for increasing profits of a company for which he is the chief executive officer. You buy gas for your car/truck don't you? You just made an Arab richer at your last fill up....

Secondly, this little teeny GE X-ray department is about the size of a miniature ameoba compared to the jobs lost to overseas. We are talking millions upon millions of jobs lost overseas overall (not only that but the snopes review states there will be no existing US jobs lost as a result of the GE announcement).

I've seen it first hand in 2 different industries - furniture and insurance. Lexington, NC used to have a huge furniture industry. These days, we ship the wood overseas and they ship it back as furniture. Tell me how that makes freakin sense? In insurance (I work in IT for a large insurance company) they started around 2004 replacing IT folks with Indian labor (half priced or even less). At my company our head count is down 50% of the 1,300 + people that once worked in this building. Not just IT - call center labor provided by the good folks in the Philipenes. You better believe that is excellent customer service! LOL NOT!

Our country needs to figure out a way to make it more profitable to use our own resources. When I say resources I'm talking everything including human resources and natural resources AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW RESOURCES.

Here is a good read on this mess.

well all I'm saying is that some jobs are being and have been created.I personally beleive that we are recovering at this time.Is it as good as what the Whitehouse says? doubtful. But,It isn't as bad as the Republicans are saying either.the truth probably falls somewhere in the middle.
you know, people choose to beleive whatever source for imformation they want to.As a rule i don't take much stock in either Fox news or MSNBC because they are,in my opinion, slanted in their views. In this day and age of politics in our nation there is a very distinct line between the two sides.Me,I'm still a midle of the road person who thinks that little will get done until BOTH parties are forced by the public to do the jobs they are being paid to do.I also beleive that the 2 news agencies are very responsible for keeping the division alive and well.

I think that's a little harsh.....

Contrary to what you may believe Destroyer, people other than yourself are informed. We all just don't choose to consider every bit of good news as a pack of lies and all the bad news as the evil villain Obama's fault. You're hatred of the guy is starting to blind you to all information contrary to your beliefs. They have been using the same formula to calculate unemployment rates for some time I believe. I agree the number is probably not accurate to say the least but it should be relative from month to month.....will you just take an inkling of possible good news and be happy for the country and go with it and not turn it into the grand conspiracy of lies.

Naaa.. not harsh... mild really from what I would have liked to say.

Ask yourself....Are you,...are you really informed? Or are you just parrotting what you've heard from the news? It's a given fact that most of the media is controled by ultra left wing interests. Fox is just one network against CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and several others that I'm just too lazy to name... but you get the idea. And the left just hates it and has been doing everything that it can to get it off the air. Meanwhile, you're being spoon fed only those things that they want you to hear, and anything that goes against their agenda they either destroy, create lies about or simply don't report. When you hear the same lie, over and over, from several different sources, pretty soon you start to believe it as fact. It's called propaganda and it worked really well in Germany in the 30's and 40's. You're being subjected to it right this minute and you don't even realize it because you aren't listening to or hearing any other side. It's interesting how when you hear only one side of a subject how biased you become. (And please understand that when I say "you" I mean the "royal" you, meaning the entire American public, not just any one person here on the board)

As for me, I like to think of myself as a highly conservative Independant. I vote Democratic and Republican, depending on who I think is best for the job. I read the NY Times (left wing) and the Wall street Journal (right wing). I listen to NBC news (left wing) and Fox news (right wing) I consider the future of our country and of myself and my children to be far too important to trust any one source, or any one side of a subject. As to the subject at hand, (unemployment and how it's reported) unfortunately, the not counting people whose benefits have run out started with a Republican president. The present administration has just taken it to new heights of lying to the American public. They changed the formula a few months ago so it would look like unemployment has gotten better. It hasn't..it's as bad as it has been, and if anything it's getting worse. They're lying to you.

And really, I don't hate Obama. I even admire him. The way he's been able to fool the American public, his debating skills, his complete and almost total control of the media, his being able to blank out his childhood and any records that might prove who he really is or where he really came from is skillful to an extreme. You have to admire a guy like that. I think that he's absolutely the worse president that our Country has ever had, and I worry that we may never be able to undo the damage to our freedom(s) that he's caused, but I don't hate him. I'm not blind to what or who he is. After all, in order to destroy your enemy you have to know your enemy, and I intend to do everything in my power to help destroy him in the next election. So I need to know him. I read, and I listen, and I learn. That's all I'm asking of everyone else here. Listen, I mean really LISTEN to BOTH sides before you make any decision...I think that's fair, don't you?

hi its the same over here if not worse we have lost alot of companys here that have gone to asia we are alot closer and easier to do . Ithink our main problem here is getting people young ones to start work with a lower paid jobs. OUR young generation dont want to start from the bottom of the ladder and as for housing and car the want the best and new .We also have 1000s of imagraints coming here and take our jobs which is no fault of theres we would loose thoses companys to if it wasnt for them''''where i live is a lot of fruit farms they get asians to come here on working holidays to pick fruit work that out i think its all the same in big countrys

Blue_Runner 02-10-2012 09:30 AM

I agree about the propaganda.

I guess the point was that a US president should never appoint a CEO to head a commission on job creation? Or is it that a CEO should never try to make thier company as profitable as possible? Or is it both? I fail to see how this is a significant lack of leadership on the president's part?

Not to say his leadership isn't lacking in other ways!

The author was clever, no doubt, but overall a very weak attempt at drawing that parallel. I can see the comedic value in the sarcastic conclusion, but I'm afraid others are being "propagandatized" by stuff like this. And you are exactly right, when you hear it over and over and over, you start to believe it.

Talking strictly about the unemployment rate (currently 8.3%) you're going to have to show me from some source where you think they changed the way it is calculated in the last few months. The BLS calls people every month and asks them if they are working or not and if not are they looking for work . Period....the unemployment benefits running out is not even factored into this number.....the number is not accurate by any means I'm sure but when its going up things are getting worse and when its going down things are getting better. Period. "Better" being a relative term as compared to last month, not the 1980's or Pre-Obama or whatever period you want to compare it to. Yes I know those working now arent making what they used to and the underemployed numbers and all that...but last month they were not working at all according to the survey and this month they are.

Blue beat me to my final point....the only reason I engage in these conversations is when I see these emails/stories that float around that are so misleading it just makes me nuts. Most people will not even click on the link that's attached and read the story which many times directly contradicts what's stated in the opening sentence..... and also thanks to BlueRunner I have a new word in my dictionary...."propagandatized":you:

I used to enjoy visiting this site a lot for the boating related fun and advice as well as the "Off Topic" stuff regarding family, friends, kids, vacations, music, cars, motorcycles, good eats, other interests and hobbies, etc. (including but not limited to the bikini supermodels!). I can go elsewhere for vitriolic political diatribe. Just because folks have a different opinion on an issue does not mean they are uninformed, spoon -fed and unpatriotic.

Destroyer 02-10-2012 02:18 PM

RW, you'll have your proof shortly. It will take me a while to look it up since it's several months old. And I never said that the formula they changed was for unemployment figures. The formula I was talking about was for how they report jobs and how it relates to unemployment. As I said, the present regime has simply taken lying about the present unemployment figures to a new height.

Nipper, no one said that anyone was unpatriotic.. please don't go putting any words into anyone's mouth. Nor did anyone say that anyone was uninformed... Misinformed perhaps, but that simply refers to the point I was making about everyone being spoon fed misinformation by the left wing controlled media so as to advance their cause. It is called propaganda and yes, it is happening.

Finally, Blue, I agree that 6 men (jobs) being transfered to China isn't all that much, nor is the proported 65 engineers that, according to the article, will be hired and trained over there. (Unless of course you happen to be one of the 65 engineers here in the US that doesn't have a job because of it). I think that the point of the article was to show that the person that is supposed to be in charge of keeping jobs here in the US is, in fact, outsourcing jobs to the very country he's supposed to be keeping jobs from. To me, that smacks of hypocrasy (sp) and I think that was the thrust of the article.

This kind of division is exactly what the political machines on left and right WANT...because as long as we're down in the trenches fighting each other, they can get away w/robbing us blind of our lives and treasure and no one will ever notice til it's too late...talkin' about INFORMED...these parasites are milking their positions dry, selling their votes and influence to whoever offers them money....and it doesn't matter if it's domestic or foreign...I'm as pissed about Obama as anybody, but if we think anythings gonna really change once he's gone...if we think the tide of jobs going overseas will turn then we're fooling ourselves....

when we pull our heads outta the political party sand and come together as AMERICANS instead of two divided ideologies, we'll get this country back...till then we'll just keep on gettin' screwed from the LEFT and the RIGHT just depending on who collected the most money from special interests and got themselves elected...

I completely agree Reel... As a matter of fact, after my last post I sat thinking and came to the conclusion that the tone of this discussion had turned "antagonistic" and personal. I've gone to great lengths to not single out any one person and to make sure that anyone that read anything that I wrote understood that I was writing about society as a whole and not anyone here as an individual. Unfortunatly, some of the responses did not follow the same venue. The last thing that I want is any bad feelings, so I've decided that I'm going to try to not make any more posts other than wishing people well, happy beirthday, etc.

That being said though, let me ask you and everyone else here one final question. (If what you say is correct, and I have no doubt that it is).

How do we fix it without discussing it?

See, I've always thought that you cannot fix any problem unless you discuss the possible causes and solutions with the other people that are involved. And I completely agree with you that we, (the American public) needs to wake up and get our heads out of the political party sand. But how do we do that without discussion? So I ask again.... how do we do it? :head:

That's the easy part, Destroyer...redirect your anger at those who are the real threat...I contend that to be our lawmakers, elected officials, politicians...whatever you decide to call them...there is not one problem we have today, that wasn't CAUSED or ALLOWED by Congress and the Executive Branches of our modern day government...that over the last 30-40 years while Dems AND Reps have come and gone...

The guys who disagreed w/you ARE NOT the problem...liberals ARE NOT your problem...conservatives ARE NOT the problem...healthy discussions of different points of view shouldn't be sensored...and shouldn't be escalated into WWIII levels. But we are human and emotions are many times brought into discussion...It makes me as mad as hell to watch what our government is doing to us...but just gettin mad ain't gonna CHANGE anything...staying calm and finding ways to come together against the people who seek to rob us of our money and rights will get the job done...and admitting there are those on BOTH sides of the aisle...if every Dem dropped dead tomorrow, the lobbyists wouldn't go away...if every Rep croaked 1st thing in the morning, the Dems would still be on the take...your vote doesn't mean a thing when theirs is FOR SALE...THAT'S our enemy...and we should be DEMANDING it STOP and focusing that DEMAND toward Washington..not each other...

I'm sorry, I thought that I had made it clear, I'm not angry at any one group. I'm angry at the system. I'm a conservative. I don't want people changing my Country or it's laws.

Reel, those are good words...fine words... intelligent words... and you're completely correct... You're saying what I've been trying to say for a while now. But don't you see? All you've done is identify the problem.. you've identified who is responsible... and i think we all know, to one sort or another, that what you've said is correct. but you didn't answer my question. You answered who is to blame. And I asked how do we fix it.

See, here's the problem. The US Congress is made up of 100 Senators and 435 Representatives. While the Representatives are commonly referred to as "Congressman", in fact all 535 members of Congress are technically Congressmen and women. The term of a Representative is 2 years. A Senator serves for 6 years. The President has a term of 4 years, may only serve 2 consecutive terms, but can be elected again after missing one term. There is no limit to the number of terms a Representative or Senator may serve. My point is that once a person is in office it's like trying to remove an embeded tick. They can promise you the world, but once they are in office all they have to be beholding to are the special interests that are pumping money into their wallets.
So you have to wait 2 to 6 years to remove the crook, and meanwhile he or she is taking (stealing) your money and your freedoms little by little. Just remember that EVERY law that they pass in some way takes away a little of either yours or someone elses freedom. Over time, you're suddenly left with nothing, you become a virtual slave to them, while they bask in luxury that you pay for. So I ask you again.. how do we definatively identify and then get rid of these thieves? They make the laws that keep them in office. And they shape those laws so they stay in office. (It's called redistricting). So, how do we, as citizens, insure that whoever we replace them with does what we want? And how do we get rid of them quickly before they can do any real damage if they don't? I don't know... I'm hoping that someone can give me an answer.

That's the hard part...cuz it goes all against everything you have come to believe as a Republican...and it will go against everything every Democrat ever believed...Here's how to fix it...

Vote the incumbent OUT every election cycle!!....

That's where it gets hard, cuz you would have had to vote for Obama last presidential election cycle...or Kerry the one before...more importantly, you would have had to vote for the Dem Senatorial candidate...and lot of Dems would have to vote for Reps...but they see each other as enemies, so they're missing the true root of their problems which are the money-grabbin' parasites on both sides

When we as a people grow up enough to pull up our Big-Boy britches and stop buying into the bunk about , My party right or wrong crap, THEN we can renew the America we THOUGHT we had back when you put your hand over your heart and said the Pledge of Allegiance in elementary school...it's a big scam and that's what we gotta do ti call their bluff...it'll prevent career politicians (parasites) from gaining any real power and diminish the desire to choose politics as a get rich quick/easy scheme for the class of people who REALLY don't want to work for a living...the politicians...:nut:

You're right...if we leave it up to them, it'll never change...but it can change if we decide to change it...with their cooperation or without it...if we're not will to set aside the party BS that keeps us divided and their gravy train flowing, then we'll continue to live, not as free Americans w/a voice in our government, but as workers under the thumb of big money's puppetry of our society...it really is in our hands...it's up to us...

Why are all teh negative stories brought to the forefront, what about the positive stories. I know it is easy for me because I work for Volvo, but they have looked closely at their business decisions and are now in the process of on-shoring components that have been made in other countries.
Right now, they are setting up a transmission assembly line in the Hagerstown, Md facility, they are going gangbusters in Shippensburg at the construction equipment facility.
We are contracting many U.S suppliers right now.

Destroyer 02-11-2012 11:56 AM

I think that everyones still missing the point I was trying to make. You all have good intentions...get the bad ones out, get good ones in, etc etc ... but.. HOW do you know that the ones you put in will be any different...and if they are bad...HOW do you get rid of them quickly... SEE???...THAT'S the problem in a nutshell... once they are in power it's almost impossible to get them out of power... How do we change the laws...the very Constitution itself if need be, to make those that are supposed to be serving us actually do so?

Our founders made a critical mistake....they put term limits in to force people to actually serve the length of the term they were elected to. See...we were a farming society back then, and a farmer away from his farm and crops for too long was bad for his farm...so they would leave after a year or so... so term limits were put in to force them to serve longer... no one ever thought that people would actually want to make a career out of it... But now, those same term limits are preventing us ....we, the people...from getting rid of the crooks and bad politicians effectively. THAT is the problem...HOW do we get rid of them before they do damage to us??? Waiting around for 4 or 6 years simply is NOT acceptable... They can change a lot of laws in 6 years... just look at where we are now if you doubt me. As I see it, we are at the brink of a revolution. Maybe not a bloody war, but rather a shift where the people become slaves to the dictators... and remember...they have the big guns and technology where they can force us to do what they want. It's actually happening right now...slowly, quietly but happening never the less..We now have a government that is forcing us to get health insurance, whether we want it or not, We are now forced to wear seat belts, helmets for motercycles and bikes, use less sugar in our diets, smoke outside or not smoke at all, use less trans fats, ethanol in our gas, permits if we want to build a house or make a change to them, less salt, less this, less that, etc etc etc...and those are just some of the obvious changes where we are being forced to do things that we never had to do before... they are using our fears as weapons against us... it's all in the name of "safety" or "ecology" or whatever they care to call it, but the result is the same... We're losing our freedoms at an alarming rate. And each of our generations, since they only see what is, not what used to be, doesn't realize that they lost this or that ability ... so they just accept it as normal... We are becoming more and more dependant on government for everything...and slowly, quietly, we are losing our freedoms..That's what I meant when I said wake up!!! Don't you see?

Right now, they are setting up a transmission assembly line in the Hagerstown, Md facility, they are going gangbusters in Shippensburg at the construction equipment facility.
We are contracting many U.S suppliers right now.

Because negative stories sell papers.. No one wants to hear about a cat being rescued from a tree or Lassie saving Timmy who fell down a well again.

Yer right...good news seldom MAKES the news...I'm sincerely glad to hear Volvo is investing inside the US...makes me wanna go buy one...which leads me to believe Volvo is missing the boat by not publisizing their domestic growth...for some reason or other they are choosing not to...can't believe they've simply overlooked it...that's what corporations like Volvo have Public Relations Departments and contract advertising agencys is to make sure the news, good or bad gets handled properly...IMO, they're missing an opportunity...

Obama shoved his health care down our throats, just like Bush shoved the patriot act down our throats...which are two good examples of power grabbing from both sides of the aisle...given any opportunity, they will continue to take as much power as they can as surely as the sea erodes the land...
You say, Wake up and I believe a lot of people are...the tea party and the occupiers are good examples...problem is, they are DIVIDED...spawned from separate ideologies so they became enemies instead of allies...curious thing is, they want virtually the same thing, which is to get our country back from those who are destroying it...
You say, How do we know when we got the right ones?...same way you keep rats away from your kitchen...you put the cheese away. There are no term limits for Congress. Never have been. No one elected to Congress has been forced to serve the length of their term. The only term limit is for the President, and that did not come into effext until after FDR's 4 terms. You are right though that Framers of Constitution did not include term limits because they thought Senators and Representatives (and the President) would want to get back to their districts/farm/business and people simply did not live nearly long back in the 18th century as we do now.

Anybody notice that Rick Santorum's surge has been noticeably absent from the news media?

Actually, I heard a nice answer on the TV the other day.. It was on some late night show...don't recall which one...but the person said (and I wholeheartly agree) that the quickest answer to getting rid of the career politicians is to simply pass a law that states that anyone that serves a term is banned from holding any other Federal office again for life. (You can stagger the elections for Congressmen and Senators so there is always continuity within the houses). The only exception is the office of president, who can serve 2 terms, and then is banned for life from any other office. Oh, and they do NOT get the nice cushy pensions for life at full pay that they get now. They become John and Jane Doe again in the private sector with no special perks. And the way you change the law is you require anyone running for office to sign a contract BEFORE being elected that they will vote for the law once they are elected or they must resign. Kinda sounds too simple, but boy, it makes a lot of sense.

personally,i think that getting big money out of politics, campaign contributions, lobbying in DC,etc., would go a very long way in fixing things.
We have the best politicians money can buy!

Exactly right, but the problem is that the politicians make the laws, and as long as they do, they will never make a law that really gets rid of their gravy train.

So how do you think the pepole of CANADA feel about your Goverment and the free ( dirty )oil that keeps flowing from Alberta south. We get around 1 cent on the dollar. We are sending RAW product for nothing!!!!! We can't produce the by products off of it then or get a decent price for it. Now they want to block the Keystone pipeline WTF you thinking? free product to fill your refinres hello anyone home. Now the China is going to get it all what do you think will happen when that happens it won't be good for any of us over here. Then our Goverment with there head compleatly up there A$$ brings over 100,000 workers from all over the world to help with the shortage of SKILLED workes. I work through the in the Alberta oil sands for the second largest union hall in north america We tried to get the boarder open for the good O'l USA to be able to come up here and work ( good neighbor thing ) of course they didn't do that. Bet that would have helped out if 100,000 Americans could have worked up here during your hard times. Now half of them have stayed and soaked up all the low skill jobs so a kid in school that wants to make a few bucks at a fast food joint just can't there are no possitions to be had. Ordering a burger is like talking with an IT guy in India not sure what was said or what you ordered.
