In the hospital

Well, this sucks. My heart went into atrial fibrulation on Sat. So I've been in the hospital since then. They are going to shock it into normal rythem tomorrow morning. THey say it's a normal proceedure, but it's still a tad scary. :head:

lumberslinger178 10-31-2011 05:41 PM

get well soon destroyer.....

chumbucket 10-31-2011 07:04 PM

Well, we'll say a prayer for you Destroyer. Hope all turns out well.

spareparts 10-31-2011 07:09 PM

don't worry, it happens to my father all the time. After they get you settled down, they'll teach you a few exercises that will help you control it next time it happens, they also have some meds to help you with it. My father has been dealing with it for over 15 years that I can remember, they've had to shock him four or five times over the years, most of the time, he's been able to deal with it on his own. It hasn't slowed him down any, you'll be OK

you sure it wasn't the pic of the 20 Pursuit with the etec that got your heart thumpin'? It sure got Reels attention

Road King Cole 10-31-2011 07:27 PM

you'll be fine. They will also prob start you on meds to keep it from happening again. There's also other procedures too if it comes back. Yes it is scary and a wake up call. Take good care of that ticker!

reelapeelin 10-31-2011 07:47 PM

They'll get ya straightened out...you got a lotta boatin' ahead of you!!...:sun:

aussie 10-31-2011 08:32 PM

DES that is scary **** and no one knows what its like but yourself i hope thet can get it to beat right good luck my friend

randlemanboater 10-31-2011 09:29 PM

Praying all goes well with your shock treatment.

phatdaddy 10-31-2011 09:54 PM

listen to what they tell you, it's easier to prevent a stroke than to treat one.

also a fib is better than d fib

nipper 10-31-2011 11:35 PM

Best wishes, Destroyer. Keep us posted, please.

Hedge 11-01-2011 01:17 AM

charlie_the_tuna 11-01-2011 08:22 AM

i dont know how serious that is but i'm sure it cant be good. i've got my fingers crossed for you and hoping you recover completely.
go get 'em.

Mulv80 11-01-2011 08:24 AM

My brother had the same procedure about 6 months ago. He was fine immediately after. Scary, but pretty routine. I'm sure you will be fine, good luck.

RWilson2526 11-01-2011 09:13 AM

Good luck with the procedure....like some of the others my MIL had the same procedure a few months back. No big deal at all. You could always bust out your boat battery and give yourself a little shot and see what happens.

yodaddy 11-01-2011 06:11 PM

The cardio guys have this down to a science. Fear not, and be well!

macojoe 11-01-2011 06:50 PM

good luck to ya!!!!!!!!!!!

spareparts 11-01-2011 07:58 PM

the boat batteries won't do it, grab-a-holt of the coil wires on an outboard running around 5000 rpm, that should set your heart right

Destroyer 11-01-2011 09:58 PM

Sorry for the delay in news, my laptop batteries ran down, had to wait for my wife to bring the charger. Proceedure was a complete success, and my heart is back to beating normally. Not sure what caused it, they think it possibly is the 3-4 cups of coffee a day that I normally drink. Personally I think Spare is right, it's the pic of the 20 Pursuit with the etec. In all cases they zapped me with 350 volts and that got me running right again. I should be out of here sometime tomorrow. THANK YOU ALL for the good wishes and the prayers.. they really helped!! Kinda tired still, so gonna make this short. God bless... ttfn....D

lathehand 11-02-2011 07:53 AM

Great to hear your on the mend. With all the positive thoughts and prayers you have no choice but to get well

randlemanboater 11-02-2011 08:04 AM

Good news! If I'd have known you only needed 350 volts, I could have loaned you a Taser, they have a lot more than that.

reelapeelin 11-02-2011 08:45 AM

Yeah, yeah, yeah...batteries dead, blame it on the wife...dog ate(or peed on) my laptop, yada, yada, yada...the excuses we hear for not posting in a timely fashion...we've heard 'em all by now...layin' around in the hospital don't cut it...

Bet ya got a tent rising in the sheets over the 20' Pursuit...I know I did...Hell I didn't know they made one like that...doesn't have the sweet flair of a V20, but I bet it's a HOSS w/the Etec!!...

Get outta the hospital soon...take a good hot shower and we'll be seein' ya down the road...

RWilson2526 11-02-2011 08:58 AM

I'm sayin' with all you guys making hospital visits we need to start a Nurses of the Norton Snaggers calendar.

Road King Cole 11-02-2011 09:36 AM

ya, thanks for FINALLY posting that you were OK...

They can do some amazing things with the heart sometimes.

I had SVT (short circuit in my heart), they went up through a vein and burnt the short circuit out (ablation).

Glad you are OK!

bradford 11-02-2011 03:33 PM

Glad you're ok Destroyer, prayers sent anyway.

They actually discussed that method to me as one of the things that they could do. Kinda amazing when you think about it. I knew a lady a few years back that had the same proceedure done.. She said it was like being reborn to not have the constant fluttering feeling in her chest. :head:

Well mine would come and go, never knew when it would happen. When it did, I would feel a little dizzy and very weak. (OK, more than normal:bat:). I could usually get rid of it by laying down and hold breath hard\appy pressure to chest (push like taking a dump)...after a few attempts. Even though I was taking meds for it, it seemed to be happening more and more. It was akward when I was at a pats game, but a little more scary when I was out by myself in the V in the middle of buzzards bay...

One of the best things I ever did for myself...

my dad had the ablation for a-fib and it worked for about 2 months. he ended up on coumidin(sp?). once we got the levels right, it was no biggie.

Coumadin (Warfarin) is a blood thinner. It's used to prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger in the blood and blood vessels. It's usually prescribed for people with certain types of irregular heartbeat, people with replacement or mechanical heart valves, and people who have had a heart attack. It was an option for me also, but they didn't want to use it
on me because I have severe gastritus (acid reflux) and they were afraid of it causing stomach bleeding. So they went with the shock instead. Actually, there is a hidden benefit to all of this.. I can jump start an outboard now just by licking it.:hide:

C'mon down then...me n spare fixin' to kick one over hadn't been started in a little more than 2 years...might need a little extra LICK!!...

Monkey Butler 11-03-2011 08:25 PM

First off prayers that your health issues are taking a turn for the better.

My wife has been through ablation, mechanical heart valve, coumadin, all that good stuff so I feelo for you.

They can work miracles but boy from this end it really doesn't seem like an exact science
