are you still running thru the hub exhaust? I know it can get loud, but I'd recommend going thru the transom, it will wake that motor up

UBHSTRY 07-25-2011 10:12 PM

We have been discussing that actually. I am sure its going to be done at some point, but I am not sure when that is going to happen, or even how to begin that. Can I just hang some headers and shoot them out the back with flippers?...LOL

get out the credit card

you can probably start off with just installing thru hull exhaust tips http://www.rexmar.com/page230.html and connecting them to the existing risers with 4" exhaust hose. You will need to block of the stock exhaust Y pipe. To do it right, you need to pull the engine, remove the Y-pipe and install a Mercruiser block off plate

If you haven't already found them, look at Eddie Marine http://www.eddiemarine.com/ and Rex Marine http://www.rexmar.com/productindex.htm

Heres a few pieces I found on Ebay you could use for adding in through hull exhaust without pulling the engine.

Heres a used set of CORSA electric diverters so you can select between the regular I/O exhaust or uncorking it when you want to.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Corsa...ssoriesQ5fGear
A set of 4" through hull tips.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-STA...ssoriesQ5fGear
A set of basic diverters that lets you use both.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BAJA-...ssoriesQ5fGear
And a diverter and through hull set with mufflers and flaps.

Shoot Man...hole saw and some FLEX-PIPE oughtta do it....um, maybe some heat resistant caulk...get those pipes a litle out the tranny and crank 'em down a bit...won't need flappers...send pics!!...LOL!!

No kiddin', that 's gonna be one HOT V-20!! when is splash day?...

Pulling the engine in and out is pretty simple, only takes about 45 minutes to pop it out, so no biggie there. I will post pics of my final setup for pulling it up quickly...hehe. I blew a hole in a piston, and had to fix it, so took a few pics the engine while I had it out again. I will get a few more pics up tonight of pulling it, piston replaced, converting to fuel injection.

Thank you guys for muffler ideas...LOLOL Hm, I do need to do something I think.

THEFERMANATOR 07-26-2011 11:28 AM

the stock Y pipe set-up is a real limiter and it will kILL an ALPHA outdrive running all that heat through it. Running the exhaust through the transom will help the outdrive live MUCH better as well as freeing up some HP. The Y pipe is only rated to about 300-325HP for a small block, and many people report picking up quite a bit of top end by just installing the diverter set-up.

May not the the prettiest setup but if it works...
My question is, it looks like the lift is seated on the gunnel, how do you propose getting the engine out rather than just lifted up?

unless there is a gaping hole in the block, I dont see a reason to get it out of the boat....LOL But if I did, just sling it to a tree, lift it and drive the boat out from under it. It goes up plenty high enough to pull the pan and change pistons..LOL:sun:

Yes, not going for style points...LOL Just had to replace that piston that leaned out on me. I had it done and back in before anyone even had enough time to get their drunk on....LOL

I am being an idiot:sad: I can make whatever freakin exhaust I want. Hm....flipped up shorty headers, with custom pipes thru the transom. Also, could coil them and keep them water cooled.:sly:

Run stacks right up thru the cowl on 30* and they'll match the angle of the rod holders!!...

Hehe, I was hoping NOT too show that...LMAO

Ill put it up as soon as I can. Zingerin a forged piston is never a good thing...LOLOL

I see you have been tinkering again. Is that the same boat as before or a different one?

New EFI to boot. I get it. That is a better mouse trap than the Holley Projection I was telling you about. Leaned one hole out? Burnt a piston, WHAT? Predetonation? Carnage of this nature must be supported with pictures. It happens. Try to roll the timing back a few degrees when you hit the NOS. and for goodness sake don't find the limiter in the MSD box when you do. Rev limiter isn't as "soft-touch" as they indicate in the literature. Ask me how I know?

I am insulted by a lot in these times but, "SPEED FREAK", not so much. UBHSTRY, keep up the good work and updates. Reel has a e-mail.
