captpete13 07-17-2011 10:16 PM

It was great seeing everyone again. I really thought that there would have been more attending but the family and I thoroughly enjoyed everyones company. Hey Ken how was your ride back? The bay kicked up pretty good on the way home for us. Luckily 90% of our ride is in 2-3' of water so it was pretty flat till we crossed the bay to get to our lagoon. Then everyone got soaked.

nipper 07-18-2011 12:47 AM

It looks like y'all had a nice time. Willy, "Fishbones" with her new ETEC looks sweet, but if you look at the bow to bow pictures, she's just a bit short on the bow flare compared to a V20. I am just kidding...you have a very nice boat there, Willy. Lumber, Wilson and Pete, yours look great as well. Better than great--extraordinary.

It looks a bit calm out there for an Aquapalooza going on. I was expecting to see pictures of Krinkle, glo sticks and......?

Blue_Runner 07-18-2011 02:34 PM

Wife and I planned on coming but ended up in Wilmington at REH76's house for the weekend instead. Did not take the boat but did go fishing on his buddies 17' skiff. Highlights of the weekend were my oldest daughter laying into a big flounder from shore and freaking out. I came over to assist getting it up onto the sand and guess I horsed it a little as the hook popped off the line. 4+ lber probably 19-20 " range. The other highlight was my youngest getting over her opposition to using live bait. After my oldest threw a fit about the big flounder, daughter #2 decided she wanted to try. She apologized to every minnow just as I hooked em in the lips. Final highlight was REH76's 5 y.o. son putting our only keeper in the boat - a fat 16" flatty. He is a fishin machine! Really knows his stuff for a 5 y.o.

Glad ya'll had a good time.

Road King Cole 07-19-2011 12:19 PM

Looks like a good time.

Thanks for posting the pics! any more?

I have been busy since getting back from my Maine trip (bike, not boat). I'll try to post up some pic's.

Finally got some time to upload some pictures....Another good time was had by all. Like Pete I was a little disapointed because I thought this year we were going to get a pretty good turn out....but oh well we all had fun....

Destroyer, sorry to hear about your motor woes....Keep in mind until proven otherwise you are still imaginary:you:.

Ozzie and Lee, hope you guys had a good time. Like I told you on the phone yesterday Ozzie (tried callin you too Lee but your phone went right to voice mail) that I'm feeling real bad that I was only able to hook up with you guys out on the water on Saturday....I just didnt think through the whole thing with the camping equipment and having the dog and all. I still should have found a way to make it work to hook up with you guys some more. Truly sorry about that....Willy and Pete...good job showing those guys some Northern hospitality...sorry I didnt help out.

Lumber....hope you're still not pulling black dog hair out of your scuppers! I guess he's telling me to clean my boat because he definitely seemed to like hanging on your boat more than mine (except maybe for Pete's while he was cooking)

Great shots Rob, I enjoyed the time together as short as it was, we'll make up for it fishing the coming weeks.
Family always comes first my friend, and you sure have a good one, enjoyed meeting your wife, great smile, nice lady.
Don't worry about those Old Snagger's, they are like a bad penny, always turning up. Plus you would have had to listen to who caught the biggest fish over and over from you know who.

willy 07-19-2011 03:49 PM

Oh and Destroyer, a vote was had and the decision was this, you must post an 8x10 color glossy of you in your V20 holding the Star Ledger Newspaper with the front page and date clearly legible. Sort of like in Alice's Restaurant.
Otherwise you do not officially exist.

Maybe I missed it? But I've yet to see this so-called fishing report. What did Krinkle catch besides a buzz? :head::hi:

A nice flounder, we didn't measure but it was a good 3" longer than the legal limit. When we rafted up with Captn Pete, Lumber, Rob. Pete had a grill and was grillin some Mahi. I fillet the flounder and cooked it up. Man was it good.

What I caught was the only legal fish and a big nice one to boot.:sun::clap:

Blue_Runner 07-21-2011 11:40 AM

Hell yeah.....good job! It is a good thing Willy had a couple southern boys aboard to catch the day saver! :you:

I dont know how you southern boys ID fish but I saw you eating a tuna steak.....Ozzie called it Salmon in his other thread and you just called it Mahi......now unless Pete had multiple fillets on that grill you two boys dont even know what kind of fish you're eatin'!

Blue_Runner 07-21-2011 02:18 PM

Rob - you mean you've never had grilled yellowfinmahisteelhead steaks before? You guys live a deprived life!

All adds up to a great time by all. Wish I could have made it. That Newfi is big boy for a gunnel hound. What a great bunch of folks.
A couple observation on Garage holding the fishing challenge trophy. (Charleston and Barnegat) You never have to drive the boat. Captains put you on fish. Otherwise your watching from the dock. It had to be said Lee. :fam:

Ridge you know the old saying: Even a blind dog can hunt once and awhile!! So here's my take on the Captn statement: Even a blind "Captn" can get lucky once and awhile. :oh: :you:

willy 07-22-2011 05:43 PM

How many specific spots did this blind Captain take your tired old arse too, in waters that are not even his own?
What bait were you using? Did that occur to you in a dream?
What pattern was the Captain running with his drifts to cover the grounds most effectively?
Did he try different drifts in different depths to try and find the almost non existent keepers in these waters that were not his own?
Did the Captain go on line and talk with every mariner he ran into to get intel on what was going on?
Was his boat set up to provide a comfortable day on the water with every piece of equipment and tackle needed to catch the non existent keepers in those unfamiliar waters?
Did the Captain not fish himself to make sure of the boat drifts in the narrow channels and passages that were tried? Did he do so to provide power drifts and to keep his charges on what were the most promising waters while avoiding the horrible boat traffic on one of the busiest boating weekends of the season?
Was the Captain not charming to the ladies encountered and provide camaraderie to the men of venture?
Was not a bottle of fine whiskey available to those who were in need?
Was not the Captain a Son of a Son of a Sailor with a Pirate's smile?

spareparts 07-22-2011 07:30 PM

You are correct Sir!
I decided after owning two V20's that what I was looking for was a pure fishing machine of the CC variety that was a little bigger (23 vs 20) and deeper deadrise (22.5 vs 18 ) to help navigate the nasty chop I deal with every day out in Raritan Bay. That would have a built in large live well and large insulated fish boxes.
Is she perfect, no, but until I can afford my 25 Contender she will do. She rides well, cuts through my chop in the bay much better than I have had in the past, and with my bad neck it makes a huge difference.
She will fish four guys comfortably with complete walk around the boat capability and is now equipped both with electronics and wash downs (fresh and salt) bait well and the room I needed.
I loved my V's, fished them for years. Still think she has the sexiest lines of any under 21 foot boat ever made. Also the most versatile under 21 foot boat ever made. But it was time for me to move on.
Lucky for me I had a bunch of friends to take with me.

Great pics, Willy!!...that REELY was a good time...seein' the guys and dolls again from the Charleston trip...AND finally gettin' face to face w/Lumberslinger, his ladies and the fabulous Bump-Kens!!...I felt the presence...or it might have been a crab nibblin' my big toe...no kiddin', she's really something to see!!...now if I can just get this '84 as clean!!...

BTW...I'd like one day to visit The Miracle Pub again...that was the coolest place...great folks and atmosphere...COLD beer and GOOD FOOD...after a night of no sleep, 14 hr drive SC to NJ, fart-dodgin' from Rocky Mount to Toms River, I was BEAT and about to drop over where I stood...wanted to stick around for the kareoke...HAD to go get horizontal...Gotta visit again sometime...

captpete13 07-26-2011 06:37 PM

Miracle Pub is the place to be. Cheap beer and good food and no Bennies. Next time you guys get up this way we will have to hit up the F-cove and fish the Manasquan river. I fished off the dock of my marina the past two days and landed 5 fluke, two keepers, but only in a combined time of an hour. we just have to fish a week day so there is less boat traffic.

I hear ya on the weekday fishin!!...we try like hell not to fish Lake Hartwell on the weekends down here, too...every basshole w/an a$$boat and every jet ski in the Upstate...if they just wouldn't go clear across the lake to buzz ya it'd be another story...

Pete, have a cold one for me next time at MP!!...

LOL ya, but those are the shoals... very shallow water. Go out into the bay and it changes rather quickly. Additionally, Barnaget inlet is considered one of the most dangerous inlets on the East Coast with constantly shifting sandbars and channels. Not the kind of place you want to go "really, really" fast in.
