I had the luxury of doing some long-desired work on my boat this spring while it was in my driveway. I changed the beat-up aluminum rubrail, refinished some of the wood, stripped and painted the engine (I love Evinrudes, but never liked the blue), and did a lot of unseen updates/repairs. I think it's now in better shape than ever.

I still can't post photos to my gallery page, so I'll upload some here for the time being. I'm planning to splash her next weekend. I'm looking forward to a fun summer, and I wish everyone here the same.

Beautiful Fitz, just beautiful. I really like the new color on the Evinrude. I like the older V's better than my 1991 at times because of all the beautiful teak. I just have 2 teak rails for the sliding hatch.

buckleyjr 06-14-2011 03:45 PM

Best looking V on this site, in my humble opinion. I'm responsible for a few hundred views in your gallery! Well done.

Questions

Where are the " curb feelers" on the trailer wheels ?

How come the console isn't lined with plush pink fur ?

Is it strung up with little lights - like christmas bulbs at night ?

Is it equiped with one of those old fashioned car horns ?

When's the parade ? I want to see it come down my street !!

Oh man, I crack myself up........

Fabulous looking boat man. To be proud of.

phester 06-14-2011 04:18 PM

wow, really nice. have a great season

jasoncooperpcola 06-14-2011 04:46 PM

That is one drop dead gorgeous boat you have there. Some Boats rolling off the showroom floor today don't look that good.

Agreed!

Fitz, what do you put on your teak and how often do you have to re-treat it?

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone.

Awthacker – the bow pulpit, hatch covers, step-pads, and cleat pads are just stained and oiled, because they get too much wear to use any impermeable finish. I generally treat them once a season, but sometimes I give them another quick oil late in the summer. That literally takes twenty minutes.

All the other wood is oil-stained with Teak Natural, then covered with three coats of Cetol light. I bought and completely restored the boat in 2003, and since that time I've never had to refinish the teak cockpit trim, the transom wood, or the trim around the cabinet. I refinished the top of that cabinet once, and refinished the swim platforms and motor well wood twice. I've found Cetol to be super-durable.

That said, the key to the longevity of the finishes has been the fact that I rack-store the boat indoors. Sunlight is very harsh on any wood finish. If I kept the boat in the water I'd get additional canvas to keep the sunlight off the wood when not in use.

Fitz,
What year is your boat?

Honestly.........That boat should be in a museum!

Fitz 06-16-2011 08:32 PM

Inaforty:

Thanks. It's a 1975.

Pipe_Dream 06-17-2011 06:33 AM

That's absolutely beautiful.

I'm looking at the piece of wood between the engine bay and the cockpit. I've been pondering a similar idea for a while, mostly to cut down on engine noise. Was that the idea behind it on your boat?

RidgeRunner 06-17-2011 06:47 AM

A real beauty. Nice detail and showroom like new.

Good to see you back to posting Fitz.

Not sure that motor will ever run right with the new paint scheme. It might have some sort of identity crisis. LOL.

Fitz 06-17-2011 09:14 PM

Pipe Dream - I can't take credit for the transom wood. That was done by the prior owner, a real craftsman named John Sanderson. I just refinished it and added the rear bench seat.

bradford 06-24-2011 08:03 PM

Fitz your rig was the first I clicked on the night I found this site. Glad to see you posting more. Beautiful boat.
