computer gurus, need some advice

i don't know if i have a virus or a gummed up computer. when i power up, the screen comes up as usual, then i move the mouse pointer over to an icon and click nothing happens. i then have to shut down with the power button and open in safe mode to operate. is there any diagnostic tool i can access or buy or do i have to take it to a grown up and let them look at it.

thanks in advance

first thing to do is to try and do a restore on your pc to a earlier date. What anti viris are you using too. you should be able to do a restore in safe mode .

another thing u can try and do is create another account with admin rites and do a viris scan

this is the best free one i have used and use it on all pcs that i repair

thanks aussie, i have done a system restore and it did not help. i use the avg anti-virus and on the scans it shows no bugs. i am not real computer savvy, but my bil said i might have to much junk running at one time. i did open the task manager and i have about 20 items and i am not sure which ones i can delete...

i would get rid of avg and install avast . go into user accounts and create a new user account and see if the pc works ok . then do a scan with avast and see what comes up. did this happen all of a sudden or it been getting slower with time . when u create a new user account all the setting on that account go to default and sometimes u cant clear a viris on the same account try it see how u go i can help u .if u had some sort od chat line it would be easier good luck . remove avg before you install avast. also search and destroy is a good tool free to download and use

It could be a defective mouse, are you able to click on anything else?
Do you have a CD ROM installed?
I can send you a Bootable CD in the mail, you insert it boot, follow a few prompts and it will detect and remove most if not all malware on your PC ...
PM me your address and I drop it in the mail...

ny, i've tried a different mouse & the problem is still there. i'll pm you my address, thanks a lot.

Sounds like your mouse driver is corrupted. Look in Windows [start/settings/control panel/add or remove programs or components] There is a section where you can add/delete or replace various parts of the Windows program. Reinstall the part of Windows that contains the mouse driver. That would be my first guess... :head:

Oh no its there trust me, I sent the CD priority mail. Let me know when it arrives and I can walk you through the process of booting from the CD and hopefully the eradication of this malware if indeed its there ...
I am sending you the "Bootable CD Version" its the only way to remove malware at the boot process not after its loaded in memory..
Note you can download and install the free version however its not the same as running a Boot Scan which is what the CD is ...
Here is the link for the free version http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus

Hey Bud did you ever resolve it? I am swamped at work with a huge Exchange Migration and completely forgot about this ...

phatdaddy 06-02-2011 03:54 PM

ny, got the disc and ran it, then did the online scan., i also did a malbytes? scan another guy at work suggested and neither did any good. in fact they showed very little problems. what'a a good time to give you a call? and what the heck is a exchange migration?
