WANTED!!! rodboxes
i need new rodboxes any body know were i can get good ones thanks.
or if anybody has good ones just tell me. thanks, fishbonejr |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Maybe I can help. As part of the process of rebuilding my 1980 CC, I decided to replace the plastic rodboxes but did not want the rectangular plastic boxes being sold by Flounder Pounder Marine. Did the best next thing…made a mold out of the old plastic trapezoidal original rod boxes and I should be popping my first new set of fiberglass rod boxes next week. I will take pictures and post them and will figure out what’s the best price I could sell them for. I can probably even make copies of the original rod holders in either teak or starboard. Pass it on to other members.

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes

you sound like a real fabricator. I cant wait to see them, i have old and cracked rodboxes that do not even match the color of the boat. i really dont use the rod boxes for what they are for ;D, but would like it to look a little better. Just keep me updated and tell me what you would want for them, I have a 1989 v-20. thanks, Fishbonejr |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Hammer for you, yes I can. However I would need a template of the transom curve and angle and it would be in aluminum, not glass. Same for the hardtop although it add lots of weight to an otherwise agile craft. Will also post pictures of my new custom full transom and bracket with dive platforms. By the way, I don’t post a lot, but log-on regularly and always learn from you guys. Thanks!
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Builder, post some pics of that custom transom and bracket. You do this for a living ? or hobby.
We "me" are Ho's when it comes to posting of pics. Love to see things from the start to finish. Post some pics. when you get time. *;D |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
No, it just took the measurements, made a template and had the bracket custom built by an outfit (A & J Marine Welding, Inc.) that fabricates them in Miami.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
You should get a gallery here and post your V and custom stuff.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
You can check out the progress of my full transom-(second rebuilt) on my gallery.

also keep me updated on the rod boxes i also found these on the v-20 site. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2484816158 i measure but not sure how well and i think they would work |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Fish, they nice nice rod boxes, they look just like mine, but you will need to cut the opening bigger. Plus I think they have a lip in the bottom. Means they are suposed to sit flush on the deck. That again means cutting low to the deck like I did. I dont like them because its easier for water to get behind the gunnel. Plus as the problem that I ran into is the fuel line. The back of my rod boxes hit my fuel line, so you may have to relocate the direction of the fuel line. That was a pain. I dont use teh rod boxes, but they were new, so i threw them in. I would prefer to run 1/4 starboard down the whole side over the rod holder and mount dive tank holders. Maybe in teh future, but it might hurt the resale. There seems to be more fishing guys then divers. ;D

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
i dont use them at all but want the boat to look a little nicer the ones i have now are cracked, dirty, yellow, and they are falling out because the screw holes are bigger than the screws. i also have my deck light screwed in to them would that be a big problem or could i just moun them to the new box. i found my measurements the boxes are 60" long 16 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" deep. so i think they were two small anyway. i am never going to sell mine so i can do what ever i want. i like the idea of just covering them with starboard., insted of making it a scuba tank holder i would put some type of cushion over it and make it a leaning post when fishin'.

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
builders pics are in the center console gallery......great work there builder!...wish i had the space and tools to do complete workovers like that...looks like blast!(with the help of a couple illegal mexicans)
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Odd place for deck lights. Mine are mounted higher, just above the rod boxes. I dont remember the measurements for mine, but 60" or so sounds right, or maybe slightly bigger.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
i put them there so i didn't rip them off one day fishin' like running to get a pole and knock it off.
look here is were they are http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n...hbonejr_10.jpg see the light over in the left top corner is that bad placing ??? should i move them or just mount them to the new rod boxes. |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
No, keep it. Actually thats a big light. I like it. I have these tinly little whimpy lights. A total of four of them.
Your light is actually recessed so you dont bump into it. I might do teh same now maybe. ;) |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
yea i have two of them on the deck i want more but can't because of the electrical system i want cabin lights too but that will have to wait.
hey just curious has anybody seen or heard from racerx havent seen him in a while just wondering i know he was around alot and havent seen him since the crash. |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Those lights wont draw alot. You wont have any problems adding a few more if needed.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
yea it will any thing that draws electricity will hurt it because i was told by my machinic that one more electircal thing addid to the boat and it would short out i wanted to add two more speakers to the stereo i wanted to put on a spot light i wanted radar but i cant do that now i might ptu a new electrical system in when i redo the dash but well see how the budget is for now. ;D ;D ;D

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Nah, I wouldnt go with a third battery at all. I figure you have two batteries, one battery for starting and the other for lights, stero, ect. Thats plenty of battery, I guess you have an alternator to charge, but either way, you can run alot more stuff if you wanted to. You can run the stero straight off the battery with a inline fuse attached, or just run the stero off one of the fuses from the fuse box, wich ever is the shortest distance I figure.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
yes i do have two batterys and an alternater but not sure how well it works i jump it every time i take her out.
i hope i dont offend anybody with what i am about to say but i do have alot of electrical stuff on her already here is a list bilge pump vhf radio am/fm/cd radio xm satilite radio gps blower deck lights dixie horn regular horn deck lights running lights live bait well pump trim electric start depth finder accesory lights do you think this is over loading my boat or can i add more |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
You have no more then anybody else has. So if you wanted to add a spotlight, you should be fine.

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
What makes great light for night fishing is red rope lights!!!
I have a inverter on my boat, nothing big just a small one, and it lights them rope lights fine. Tuck them under the gunnels and you never see them, till you turn them on, then its a nice glow with pleanty of light!! Being under the gunnel keeps all light in the boat and nothing spills out on the water to scare the fish. I am going to twist a white light with my red, this way when I want lots of light I will have it!! Red or orange is great as they don't ruin your night vision when oin the water. |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
I have a 1 million Candle power rechargeable spot light for finding buoy's.
|

they always die before i get back to the marina though. |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Well what you need on that boat is a good GPS Map, Then you just need to find the buoy and then shut her down.
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
M.J., I thought about buying an inverter as well. Is it hardwired right off the battery, can you mount it in a perminment location. The one I seen was portable only.

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
Lewes has a X-Mas boat parade on the canal, alot of te boats put on X-Mas lights and go up and down the canal. Thought of maybe doing it this year. ;D

Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
i was thinking about doing that as well. anyone have an idea on how long a battery would last on the inverter to say power lights , fan,etc for those hot days?/..
|
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
I have a 400 watt and its plenty, I run two battery's so I leave one for the motor.
Lights last a long time!! But that said I leave the 2nd battery on all the time so when I am moving from one spot to the next its charging some. |
Re: WANTED!!! rodboxes
i have a 350 watt do you think i could use that??
but i think i have preety good gps already it is a garmen 182C but i guess i dont no how to use it. but what i really need a spot light for is making sure i sont run in to any body while out and docking they have no dock lights what so ever, it is pick black. let me know. Fishbonejr. |
