Cool laser weapon, but why...............

Check out this cool new laser weapon developed by the Navy. But why oh why did they have to use an expensive boat with over $20,000 worth of outboards for the test? Why not use a really old boat with a single, older, outboard?

Oh those old things....they probably had 100 hours on them so they were slated for replacement anyway.

Are you kiddin'??...an old boat w/a single wouldn't WASTE near enough of our tax dollars...be glad it wasn't new quad 300s!!...

The laser only took out one engine and ensuing fire did the balance of the damage. If I was running the test I would have insisted on a single engine boat to kill. It would make my test look better. Also, I don't know the range but if you put a mini gun and a rocket launcher on the boat they killed you'd have a pretty awesome combination. Personally, I would rather see the Opti's explode into a cloud of aluminum vapor, "Quicksilver Style". The slow burn down worked but I am too practical. Umm, how many people in the air and on the sea does it take for the laser to work? If it is a point and shoot. Turn it up...

not sure how well that laser would work in a real life crisis, you know with the boat moving around...

they probably figured the laser was going to take a while and they didn't want the motors to corrode off the boat before the laser got them

what a waste of tax payers money i hope the guy that thought of it got sacked

If they can shoot your outboards, they can shoot you too. Not worth it for that one under-sized seabass.

In 1979 I was a machinery broker buying some equipment from a company called Holophane in NJ that make nothing but special lights. (They made the night lights for the space launches) I watched them shoot a laser into another laser, and then that beam into a third laser, and then that beam into yet another laser... and then that beam destroyed a cinder block in about 1/5 of one second.. just a bang and the block had this huge hole in it. Then the company moved literally overnight to a new location and I never heard from them again... how very strange...:head:
