Picking up our newly purchased V-20 on Sat
I came across a real nice deal from a friend I have known for a few years. His Father in law did not use his cream puff 86 V-20 cuddy and wanted to get it from under his barn. 150 Yamaha 4 stroke 88 hrs on the meter. NOt a scratch on motor. My family owned a 77 and an 88 so I was quite familiar with the boat when we went to look at it. It was not exactly what Iwas looking for but when I saw it I knew it was the one. After some friendly negotiating we came to an exceptionally good price with electronics included. Many fond memories in the two my family had owned. One being the only time I have ever gotten sea sick. 7-8 foot swells going thru our pass and me chumming over the transom with balogny sandwiches (gulf was much calmer after getting thru pass). That was in the 77 which was 3 years old or so when we got it, 200 evinrude on it and it would fly. Boat is solid and clean and look foward to taking it out. I just tried posting a pic of it but after it finishes loading it says upload failed? Any input on why I can't get pics to load on this site. I post them all the time on other sites. Any of you guys around Pensacola?

Good try, Mack... I'm still usin' Photobucket, but can see why others don't...you'll need a photo-hosting site to post pics here...PB is free and not too big a PIA...see the "How To" section on this forum for details... Sounds like a creampuff you've run across...look forward to pics!!...:pic: |
Hi and welcome.
Like Reel said, Photobucket is the way to fly for pics. Just register there, (free), then upload the pics to that site, then click on the ones you want to see here, then copy the link [img yourphotos img] and paste it where you want in your post.. poof... all done!! Good luck with your new toy. Loof forward to seeing her pics. And yes, lots of ppl on this site from Fla. |
I really like Photobucket so bad I join the bloody thing ...Only if I can remember the password ....

Welcome I am new here is well. I live in the mobile al area. I picked up a V20 for free and currently redoing transom and converting to a center console. Good luck with your project.
|
So we picked up the V20 yesterday. EVerything went well. We had to get all the dust off and some pigeon crap. Due to people actually taking care of this boat, it shined right up and is white as can be. I am really amazed at how good of shape it is in. Even has the original owners manual from 1986. JUst a few more hours work and it will be ready. Can't wait to run across Escambia bay!http://http://i1182.photobucket.com/...2/CIMG0075.jpgYou guys are in trouble now that
i can post pics.....Thanks for telling me how! |
This is before washing! Still under barn. so happy I got pics up finally.
|
Wow! That thing is in great shape. From the pics she looks good as new. Let me know how you like the F150. My father might repower his v20 with one.
|
:clap:Best of both worlds for sure!!...that is the same motor Franco had on a nice McKee CC when Willy and I visited him way back when...that is a SWEET power plant and should do well on your new V-20!!...NICE find, Lee...hope you can show us some more pics...we're REEL ****s about boat porn around here...:hide:
|
The age of the boat is not reflected by its condition. Very nice find. You did very very good. Love it.
|
very nice; do you know if the starboard cutting board on top of that transom box came with 1986 models? or other years for that matter! as factory equipment.I have it on mine but didnt notice it on many v-20s. :head:
|
The cutting board looks factory to me. Whoever had this boat kept it very original, the seats I think have been changed.
We need to register it, hook in the electronics buy some new flares and we will be good to go. The weather has been perfect and the inland water smooth as glass. |
Wow, that's gorgeous.

Took her out on Saturday.
We waited for a window in weather to go to boat ramp. We never got sunshine. I got tired of waiting took a chance and it turned out to be an awesome rainy, windy, and slightly chilly day. Only one other boat out. The deep v ran great. Without pushing it to hard we got her up to 46 mph, thru relatively choppy water at the mouth of our river. We ventured out into our bay, it was 2-3 ft wind blown, washing machine style chop. We just slowly tooled around in it, then ran back up the river towards our power plant. The winter top which is way to low for me to even dream of standing under was great, we stayed bone dry. The motor performed flawlessly. It planes right off, great top end. Very responsive. Gas gauge never moved. The boat seems to be propped perfectly. Overall I am very happy with our wellcraft and the yamaha 4 stroke 150. They are a great combo. We should be in our last cold snap here in NW FLA. Lets get on with summer.

Congratulations, One sweet looking V for sure..Post some pictures of her on the water please, I am curious to see how she floats with the 4 Stroke back there. If and when I re-power I will like to consider a 4 stroke the weight scares me a little. Thanks
|
That boat is in great shape....nice job....I was wondering how does she sit in the water with the 4 stroke? I still have the original 2 stroke on mine and am thinking of a repower soon...just don't know which motor to get...that one or an E-tec
|
floats fine
THe first V-20 my family owned was a 76 or 77 with a 200 johnson on it. It seems like they would be close in weight to the150 4 stroke. BUt anyways it did float fine did not notice any adverse effects from it. I will post some pics when we take it out this weekend. We are supposed to have good weather!!!!
|
Very nice rig. I can't wait for you to fill us in on your fuel burn numbers. You should do very well with that 4-stroke.

Feeler for possible sale
Here is my original thread when I bought the the V. Due to recent developments, I am debating selling her. The hulls in very good condition. The hatch over fuel tank needs to be recored/re enforced. A couple of very small soft spots on floor. I can feel them but I am a fairly large guy. Stainless Yamaha prop. This F 150 runs like a scalded dog and is very good on the gas. ON many times I have ran this boat 45 to 50 miles on trips. No problem, you can look at the motor and it will crank!!! Needs a couple of minor things. Fuel gauge needs replacing. I just always top the tank off. SInce I have had it only non ethanol fuel has ran in it. I have a bimini for it. Not the one in the pic, that dry rotted. Motor is 2007. Motor blue books at 8K, but mine has low hours on it. Trailer needs some work but the axles and the hubs are good. It is a tandem magic trail. I am thinking of letting her go for $9800 obo. It is in Pensacola. Come take a test ride!!
|
Man I hate to hear that. You were just getting acquainted. Best wishes on a fast sale.
|
Sorry to hear ya gotta let her go...but I sure understand changing situations...
I've been in two boats similar to V20s w/the F150 on 'em and they FLY...very strong...I heard they are actually making 168 HP at the prop... Sure wouldn't hurt the sale to post up some fresh pics including interior... Good luck w/the sale...:nic: |

WOW- that's very fast !! That's the fastest I've ever heard of with 150 hp outboard. As comparison, I have close to 1,000 hp ( ok, 200 HO which is around 218 hp at the prop) and I'm just under 50 mph. |

It runs out nicely. The motor is no slouch. It does seem to be propped perfectly. If it ever quits raining in Pensacola I will be out in the river and bay and take a pic. Boat owning friends are suprised when they are in it on how quick it is. My Step Father has owned 2 v20's and could not believe the performance of the motor and hull combination. Overall it is a great motor for the hull. The only thing I would say negative is the weight does seem to be a bit much when you are loaded with people, coolers, gear etc. I fashioned some removable plugs for the self bailing drains to keep water out. Be careful backing up. A full transom would be perfect. |
thats a clean wellcraft i would never sell her
|
I am in Mobile close to P cola
|
I will be putting on craigslist shortly. I going to start it a $9000 and see what happens. Someone will get a deal.
|
clean, enjoy !
