Looking for a V20
Greetings,
I just found this site yesterday and have been checking it out today. I have always liked the looks of the V-20 and am activly looking for one to put my 2003 Johnson/Suzuki 140 on. Anyone know of one available in the NC area, let me know (the cheeper the better). By the way, my 140 is currently on a 1974 Starcraft Holiday 21 (a great family riding boat but not good for offshore fishing). Thanks for any leads. |
Re: Looking for a V20
Hey Randlemanboater. I have a 1972 V-20 with a 20 inch transom. I do have a stationary jackplate that goes with the boat which can be added in order to mount a 25 inch motor.
I totally rebuilt the trailer with all new parts (around $400) and had the transom redone on the boat to the tune of $800. All of this isn't counting what I paid for the boat and trailer - $1000. Or the 2 todd helm seats, which are no longer new but cost around $400 new. I am in Lexington NC and the boat is sitting at the end of my driveway. My asking price has been $1500 but I will take less....lets talk! I have over $2000 in it. Reason for selling is half-way through my restoration on the '72 a 1994 V-21 caught my eye. Had everything done to it already except for a new motor which I added after I bought it. I was going to be putting a new 150hp on the '72 had I kept it. Blue |
Re: Looking for a V20
Sounds interesting.......do you have pictures you could send? How far away from being water ready is the boat?

Re: Looking for a V20
Cosmetics aside, hanging the motor would be about all she needs to splash. Currently has Johnson controls. New steering cable, new rod holders, new bow and anchor lights. Trailer has new u-bolts, winch, bearings, springs, wheels, tires, and lights. Also boat has new fuel lines and I cleaned out the tanks about 2 years ago.
Trailer could use some brand new bearing buddies. It has buddies on it but I don't like them very well. Cosmetically, she needs a good scrubbing. The floor has some of the normal cracking in the gelcoat especially around the corner of the floor hatches. Something you see on all of the 70's models. Very classy looking lines on the older V-20's - I think everyone here would agree! I removed the bow rail - it was pitted and falling apart. That's about it. Here are some pics: Here she is before the transom work. I had a 140hp johnson on her. This was also before I had seats. http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...2005.sized.jpg http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...Boat.sized.jpg http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...oat1.sized.jpg These next 2 pics were before I did anything to it: http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...0008.sized.jpg http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/...0007.sized.jpg Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the trailer work I did. |

Re: Looking for a V20
Is BLUE Ignoring Me. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( ;D
|
Re: Looking for a V20
No, course not Hammer - wouldn't be caught dead ignoring you buddy. Actually just now stumbling into the forum...
This is the original V20 that I was fixin up before I found my V21. I've had her just sitting around for like 2 years and barely tried to sell her. But the time has come and she needs a new owner worse than I need to see her go. Believe me, thought about keeping it, doing all of the cosmetics and finding a motor, but afraid I'd only break even or end up losing $$...but it sure would be FUN! Randlemanboater went to my house yesterday and looked at the boat. He said there was a hole in the front that went all the way through the fiberglass.....honest to God I don't know what he's talking about. I hope he chimes in here or gives me a call to let me know...got me really worried! :( |
Re: Looking for a V20
BTW - Skools, thanks for the endorsement!
|
Re: Looking for a V20
hey what's a hole that's why they make more glass and resin
|
Re: Looking for a V20
Ok, Randlemanboater called and explained the hole info. I'm still at work, but will be leaving soon and will examine the area at home.
All I really can think of is when my dad was moving the boat out of his driveway over to my driveway, he went down through his yard and got stuck (what was he thinkin with his 2 wheel drive Toyota T-100? ::)). Anyways, afterward, I noticed he had broken the jack handle on the front of the trailer - so he must have jackknifed it to do that . That's all I saw at the time....but this alledged jackknife could have done more that I didn't see?? Will report on this tomorrow and let Randlemanboater know on repairability. Doesn't sound real real bad based on what I've talked about with RB. Ok, until tomorrow. P.S. Will be having a little man to man with dad tonight too ;D Blue |
Re: Looking for a V20
Thats why I love fiberglass!! I slammed a rock so hard that my teeth came lose!!
Went home and 30 min later it was glassed and had some formula filling new bottom paint and I said what rock?? |
Re: Looking for a V20
Hey Blue, whats a little bang up job. Hell, you guys seen all the glass work I did on the bottom of my boat. A little resin, cloth, and some sanding, boom, Good as new !!
You still cant beat the asking price either that Blue is asking for. Snap a few Pics. Blue if you can of the damage. ;) |
Re: Looking for a V20
yeah i want to see it too can i fix sounds fun lol ;D
|
Re: Looking for a V20

Yo M.J. I love that new log-in picture you have. Sweat !!!!! ;D

Re: Looking for a V20

|
Re: Looking for a V20
RB - if you want to email it to me I will put it up for you. I wanted to snap one for the forum, but haven't yet. I'll PM my email address...

Re: Looking for a V20
I got the pictures but having trouble getting them saved in the proper format. It wants to save as html??
|
Re: Looking for a V20
I think Blue just doesnt want to share his pictures. >:(
|
Re: Looking for a V20
:P
I DO want to share the pictures so Skools can tell me how to fix it LOL :D Plus, he included some other good pics of the boat that I was going to show too. :( |
Re: Looking for a V20
I have decided to hold off for a while. Blue's boat is really nice but I think I want a newer V with a full transom. I had a Grady-White 25 Sailfish, BC (before children), with the full transom and I really liked it. I did not like the twin 1989 Evinrude 200's that sucked gas like......well you know.
So anyway, anyone looking for a nice V20 that only needs a motor stuck on her and that little bit of fiberglass work done, Blue has a nice one at a nice price. |
Re: Looking for a V20
hurry up BR post those pics or else lol the else is Frank and I will come get that old V sink her and make a new natural reef for fishing near EI / MHC area.

Re: Looking for a V20
hey randlemanboater
There is a v-20 walkthru near me at one of the marina's. The name of the marina is Causeway marina here in Camden NC. Below is the ph # and what I saw of it it looks like it's in fairly good shape. Don't know year but I saw the boat all the time before the guy traded it or sold it to them. They stay open to 6:00 each nite except Saturday. ph #252 - 338 - 3350 |
Re: Looking for a V20

Re: Looking for a V20
or we could make one like AR368 it's made of 10 box cars and 120 tons of old cement bridge piers, and last a 241 ft barge.

Re: Looking for a V20
....but in a survey of 100 groupers, 99% agreed they prefer Bayliner over concrete rubble. Mentioned how they like the port holes in the cuddy....you just don't get that with rubble - now boxcars - that's another story.
Sorry man, I like the Bayliner idea better. |
Re: Looking for a V20
I think I just learned how to put pics in the posts, lets see how I do.
These are the pics I took of BR's '72 when I went to check it out. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_0125.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_0126.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_0121.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_0124.jpg That last one is the damage I found, it is about 4 inches long and is on the left side of the bow near the keel. |
Re: Looking for a V20
Good job! I had to give up... Nice pix. :)
|
Re: Looking for a V20
Nice boat.
|
Re: Looking for a V20
WHAT ::) That's it!!! give me a nice warm Sat. and that would be fixed and gone.
|
Re: Looking for a V20
I'm sure it would be an easy fix for you, especially after looking over your work on the 21 you have been doing.
By the way, that is the Cadilac of minivans that I am driving. |
Re: Looking for a V20
Looks like our "warm" Saturdays are gone for at least a while >:(
But yeah, it ain't too bad. I'm just glad RB found it. It could have sunk the boat for sure. |
