Day out with the Family
Things have been kind of slow around here it seems so I thought I'd throw up some pics.. For a change the last two times out I've launched in Sayreville (really nice ramps, quiet, washdown, easy parking) and made the run all the way out the bay up into Sandy Hook. 62 mile round trip last Sunday so it was more boating then hanging out.
Missed a buoy trying to get around the ammo pier and had the navy on my *** out of nowhere with sirens blazing and two bow mounted machine guns (not manned though) . Kids looked like they were about 15 years old and having a blast. They asked to board at first but by the time they circled around to come up on me another pleasure boat was inside us cutting across so they just asked me if I knew it was restricted area , and to be careful and went after the other guy. Anchored up in the Navesink River for a while, Or I guess I should say grounded up for a little while. Tide was dead low and I forgot you sort of need to approach this area parallel to the bank instead of going straight in. So anyway we were captive for a little while until we got a little more water. Also got my son tubing again after his broken leg . He's actually been very mobile for a month at least but this was the first time we got him out tubing again. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4897.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4894.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4890.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4888.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4885.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4884.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...6/DSCF4882.jpg |
Sweet looking pics RW.. :clap:Thanks for sharing. Have you ever considered launching in the Hackensack River in Seacacus and running down to Sandy hook that way? There's a great, free ramp that is dredged all the way out to the center of the river, so you don't have to worry about tides, and as a bonus, on your way back in the inside of your engine gets a good 15 -30 minute sweetwater rinse. (Oh, and did I mention that the river right there is a hotspot for Stripers?) :zip:

Nice Pics. Thanks for posting.

Looked like an excellent day on the water.

Those are my grounds too RW, great pics. Curious where in the Navesink you are tubing, do you go way up river from the bridge?
You are right that is a long run from the ramp you are using, even more so from Seacaucus. We all got to hook up and fish in a few weeks when the stripers start returning in numbers. Fluke are pretty spotty right now, dozens of shorts before a keeper comes in. Sea Bass are coming over the rail though. When you go up that river you go right by my marina, Twin Lights, right next door to the Wind and Sea Resturant. |
Oh and though I have not used it there is a ramp right on the Navesink, public I believe. You might want to check that out.

Very nice RW! I like that helm seat, looks comfy. Great pics....dog looks undecided on his happiness factor. Does he swim willingly? My dog's legs are too short so she has a hard time keeping her head above water. She likes to get about 10" deep on the shore to cool off but she's not much on the swimming thing.
I took the family tubing yesterday as well. They managed to get me out on it too. I hung on for maybe a minute before they threw me off at 30 mph....ouch! While the boat was going about 5 mph my youngest daughter was pulling on the rope after I fell off....got the rope around her leg and managed to get a nice little rope burn. It didn't stop her from getting back out there though. Good to be back out on the water though. Plus I got to get all of the salt out of my engine. Flushed it on the quick connect after the trip but always good to get it out in fresh H20 after the salt. |

Thats cool, everyone likes something different, thats why they made blondes, brunettes and redheads.
I used to launch out of Keyport, was berthed there to for two seasons. But it was always faster for me to go down 36 and have the boat right at my fishing grounds. Plus I have found some nice spots outside that produce and I run to the shrewsbury rocks frequently as that is the best fishing on the Jersey Coast. So all in from even Keyport it was too long of a run. Now i round the Hook and head offshore witha 30 - 45 minute run. Much better, especially if the sea are churning which seems to be most of the time this season. |

BTW if willy gets pulled over for speeding he'll give them a ticket for speeding after him...:bat:

nice pics Rob. looks like your dog finally woke up to go for a swim. I have always wanted to run my boat up that way. I was thinking of launching at the highlands and running over to New York harbor to check things out. Maybe in a few weeks.

Let me know Pete, try to wait for when the Stripes are starting in and we can buddy boat over and fish the Verrazano Narrows. That is prime fish waters.

I want to go with my kids before they go back to school so it will probably be around the end of the month. But I wouldn't mind doing it again later in the season for some big Bass. |
Keep me in mind too!

Sounds like a fishing expedition coming in september, sweet!!

Oh man Monday is the only bad day for me...my wife has to go back to work on Tuesday so I will have my son the rest of the week...taking one of the days off to go fishing, just watching the report of the swells and such from the hurricanes out there to see what day will be best. Monday I will actually have to get some work done. heading up to NYC? take some pics....its a pretty good haul from Atlantic Highlands Marina all the way to statue of Liberty. There is a ramp up at Liberty state park if you are only interested in the NYC area. on a Monday it should be a ghost town.... Either way have fun and take pics |
swells don't bother me. I just hate having a chop. With the lack of wind today I don't think that will be a problem. The tanks are all full, the cooler is full, the porta potti is empty. The kids and I (at least I)are up for the long haul. We will be leaving in a few minutes. I will try and get some good pics. It's too bad you can't get up there too. We will have to try again some other time.

Good luck Pete, hope you have a good time
