Re: 81V20
I'm going to go and take a look at this on Sunday, what would be a good offering price?
I'm thinking $2800. |
Re: 81V20
Joe, thats what I was thinking as well. Take cash in hand and hopefully get it cheaper. Keep us posted and let us know if you bring her home. Take your camera with ya.

Re: 81V20
I would wait to see, if they are saying in the listing that the boat is in "fair condition" then it might not be usable without a rebuild.
NADA Average retail on the motors is under $1400 total. |
Re: 81V20
Not a bad idea, I should be pretty safe with cash in hand in Mystic (hopefully).
I'll bring the camera and send out some pictures. I'm actually a little excited about there being two motors, I'm planning on mooring this boat out on the Connecticut sound so the idea of having a backup to get the thing to dock is appealing. |
Re: 81V20

Re: 81V20
Just make sure that the transom is strong!! Lift up the motor by hand and see if the transom has any movement.
Look for soft spots in the deck. Bring a compression tester with you, if you don't have one rent one from AutoZone for free. All numbers should be within 10% of each other!!Make sure she is piss water. Good Luck!! PS when you own that boat paint that red crap will ya!!! ;) |
Re: 81V20
test the transom like i do when that have a motor stand on the lower unit and bounce up and down see if the transom gives or if the whole trailer moves. then take a leather hammer if avail rubber if leather not avail and beat on the transom for hollow spots do the same on the floor you can usually hear the stringers under the floor to tell how the stringers are as well.

Re: 81V20
I looked at this boat with my neighbor this past weekend. The guy told me straight away that the floor is soft and it was indeed. Seemed like the whole thing needed to be replaced. The kicker motor is not running also, according to the owner.
|
Re: 81V20
Sorry guys, I didn't end up going to take pictures. I received an email from the owner stating the same things that the floor was soft and that the kicker didn't work. I thru out a quick number and was rebuffed.
But I did end up buying a V20 center console from NJ this weekend. I'll post pictures of that once I pick it up on Saturday. |
Re: 81V20
Congradulations JOE!!!!! ;D
|
Re: 81V20
Congrads Joe, cant wait to see your pics. Welcome to the site. Damm, with all these new members coming on board, I still think we have a chance of putting Willy in the White House. ;D

Re: 81V20
Hey Kevin, Good to see you on the site. I talked to my buddy at work - who was responsible for me getting my V20, and he said the same thing I told you. The big unknown is how far the damage goes under the soft deck. If the stringers and frames are soft - you are in for a very time consuming and potentially expensive job. There are probably better deals out there.
