New Dash For The 21

I didn't trouble-shoot any of them cause I knew all the gauges were gonna go...I wanted to have the sonar built in so a new dash was required...last night, in the cool of the evening, I tore out the old...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21011.jpg

Labeled all as I went thru...today decided on the new layout and went at it...first a template to make sure it would all work...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21017.jpg

Anything white showing thru the red got cut away...fit all the stuff into the template...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21015.jpg

It all lined up pretty good, so went ahead and whacked a new one outta 1/4" Starboard..had to remove the wheel to saw the dash, so went back w/my old one from the '74...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21023.jpg

Still gotta get behind there and rewire everything...hopefully tomorrow, but things are still movin along...oh and to catch up on some earlier business, had the shaft on the Minn Kota lengthened and got it mounted the other day...preceded by cutting away the center section of the bow-rail...hate doin that, but just can figure a better solution...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21008.jpg

Somebody posted some pics after shortening the legs on their bow-rail...I thought it looked GREAT and will do same later, but right now, I gettin what's GOTTA be done to GO FISHIN!!...:sun:

Yeah...everytime I start to think that, a LIST as long as my arm jumps out...the sonar still needs GPS antenna installed/wired, temp sensor installed/wired and transducer installed/wired...hydraulic hoses to trim-tabs installed (pump's in) and wires pulled to dash, nav lights...and on and on...whew!!...it'll get done...I gotta FISH

Hey Phat...template is cardboard from one of the kid's old high-school science projects :zip:

Reel-
I probably missed it on one of the threads but what did you end up doing about the shaft length on the Honda? I remember you weren't sure if you were going to jack plate it or try and extend the one you had.

You be pimpin' out da dash wit da starboard stuff..............
Nice job looks great.............

reelapeelin 04-18-2010 03:56 PM

New surface for the top of the dash...the old one was in OK shape ...except for the holes left by previously mounted electronics...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21024.jpg

A new skin of Starboard and she looks like new...adding a lip to the side so stuff won't slide off while I'm about whackin this stuff...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y90.../95V-21025.jpg

The compass will secure the center and a few screws around the edge and POOPH!!...new console top...ain't this FUN!!...

Cvencer...went w/a 6" set-back jack-plate...worked OK on a trial run, but have raised the motor a notch since, so the next run will be a trial too!!...

LOL!!! Looks great Reel!

Looks good man. Like that trolling motor up on the bow. When I made my new dash I wished I left room for a drip edge on top. Something to consider before rapping things up.

You know...I thought about doin a drip edge, but w/the angle of the dash, that edge would have to extend out several inches to keep the rain/spray off the gauges...but are you talkin about something shorter just to keep moisture outta the joint between dash and console at the top?...

Bonita Dan 04-21-2010 09:43 PM

I can see your problem with the angle but something to channel anything that may flow from the main dash IE:coffee, water,in my case Beer would probably help. Just make a short enough piece that will allow ya to router a groove close to the fiberglass dash, kind of like a rain gutter and seal the crap out of it. Will give it more of a finished look.

If I'm understandin you right, a spill on the main dash(the flat part w/the compass) won't get to the gauges cause there's a pretty large angle to the top of the gauge-dash...where the starboard stops, there's a 1/2" trough before the angle starts to rise...is that what you're talkin about?

Bonita Dan 04-22-2010 08:42 PM

Yea man, didn't really see that angle before the dash. The eyes ain't what they used to be,sorry. The eye doctor said I don't need glasses just need longer arms. Anyways, enjoy your new dash.
