fuse or circuit breaker?

Fuse Box or Circuit Breaker? Any thoughts? I want to re wire, and get all those wires coming off of my battery and go to a much more organized set up.

IMHO,ATO fuse panel is the way to go for our size boats. Breaker panels are nice but get expensive. I keep a couple breaker type fuses(resetable) on board in case theres a problem finding a short instead of shotgunning fuses at the panel. Haven't had to do that yet but theres always a what if involved with all boats.

what dan said , i also moved mine from under the dash to the top of the cabin, much easier to get to and troubleshoot

Check out Blue Sea Systems stuff.....

They've also got an ACR and battery switch package that's great. They also have nice busbars.

Love the blue sea stuff just wasn't sure weather to go with fuse, or circuit...

you can keep a lot of spare fuses around for cheap, not for breakers

those glass fuse panels don't last long in salt, go for teh push in style fuse panel

phatdaddy 04-17-2010 10:04 PM

another good thing about fuses, have been known to wrap a piece of aluminum foil around one and pop it back it to get home.

I just rewired and I have both glass fuses and breakers, I rebuilt the switch panel with breakers, and then added a fuse box for the hard wired stuff

I just replaced my el cheapo fuse panel with a Blue Seas Systems circuit breaker panel. Blue Seas iz da chit.

best part on fuse's if you were to buy a new item and it requires a larger fuse due to amp draw in a breaker you are stuck but with fuses just pop in a larger size.

bcraigan 04-21-2010 12:24 PM

Which one did you go with Bradford?

The red and black beats most heavy equipment once if get a few years old. I've seen a dozer rewired with all red; hot, grounds, what ever it was, it was red.
