 Considering something STUPID!

Since the wife expressed on our last outing that she wants a boat with a small cabin and a port a potti in it, I did the unthinkable and started looking for a bigger boat. The bad part is I think I found one I REALLY want. Came across a 75 FORMULA 233 cuddy that had a complete refit done in 07 with new stringers, deck and transom according to the current owner, and he is now selling it without the outboard. It already has a full transom with a bracket on it, but no trailer. He's asking $3500 and it's been for sale for awhile now at that price. And then I found a set of 04 250 EVINRUDES complete from keys to engines with one powerhead having 1000 hours and the other one has 200 hours on a factory powerhead and they both have warranty until 2011 for $6500 for the pair. Only problem is after buying the wife her PONTIAC G6 a few months back I am about broke:nut: and don't have the money right now to get em. I need to just shut my internet off so I can't keep finding deals like this:arrr:.
	Here's the boat.:hide: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...RAFT/233-4.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...RAFT/233-3.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...RAFT/233-2.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...RAFT/233-1.jpg |

man, that is one nice Formula, you thinking about twin 250"s? Isn't that a little much?
	 |

 It would fly but..

Probably gonna use 1 motor and have a spare, Spare.
	 |

That is a very nice boat. Would never know it is a 1972.
	 |

its a beaut for sure, and I have ridden in two of them, very nice ride
	 |

Did they put in scuppers or did they leave it to still drain into the bildge?
	 |

 Don't you already have a 1984 V20 CC?
We have a porta potty in our CC, it fits nicely in the cavity. However, I haven't had to use that "facility" yet so I can't comment about how comfortable it is. rkc |

It is absolutely hilarious when an adult has to use the porta-potti in my V20 cuddy because you have to close the door but open the hatch for headroom. Just seeing someone looking around out the hatch but knowing what they are doing just busts me up every time.

Nice looking boat but was it originally a I/O?
	 |

My V-20 is a project boat and will be up for sale here soon as I just don't have the time to do it. This one was origanally an I/O and the floor was raised up to add in scuppers and make it self bailing. The plan was too buy the hull and the 2 engines and then re-sell one of the 250's to offset the costs, but some have gone with twin 250's and say they have reached mid 70's for speeds:oh:. If I can sell my HYDRA-SPORTS I'd buy this one, but I simply don't have the money right now to do it.

 Nice!
Looks like it have a lot of room. |

i feel you pain ,ferm. there are so many deals out there right now, it is hard to watch em go buy. i keep reminding myself 4 boats is enough...
	 |

Yes it would suck if you really want it and know that you could talk the wife into it...
	 |

Ferm, i know where a project(and I do mean project) 23 SeaCraft Scepter is cheap. Needs floor and transom, allready cut out and waiting
	 |

you could get into this for about the same amount of money

Spareparts, if you don't mind, i might be interested on that Seacraft, can you PM me the link or info?
	 |

 Hey Frem,
What is the info on your v20 project. |

It's an 84 V-20 cuddy cabin with the factory full transom for a sea-drive. The transom has delaminated from where the previos owner replaced the drain plug sleeve with a garboard plug and didn't seal the wood core, and the deck is soft around the in floor storage box. I'm going to yank the sea-drive off of it as it only has 4 hours break in time on it since I built it. It has the windshield, bow rail, and port side storage seat in it. As well as one of the drop in bins is still there in the back.
	 |

Does it have a trailer? If it has a trailer what would you let the hull and trailer go for? I'm toying with the idea of selling the center I have and looking for a FULL cuddy rebuild.

i haven't ridden in a Scepter, but I've ridden in a 233 Formula and a 23 SeaCraft center, I'd have to give the edge to the SeaCraft.

Well I went and looked at the FORMULA today as me and the wife needed a day away from my family. It isn't as nice in person as the pictures make it out to be cosmetically, but for the most part it is structurally sound. He redid the rear 1/3 of the deck and glassed the deck directly to the transom all the way across, but he only put in 1 knee brace right in the middle. The stringers in it all sounded solid via the tap test, but he glassed the drains over in the cabin storage compartments and the one was filled with water and had been sitting that way. Also he didn't use any 5200 on the bow rail and water has been seeping down around the mounting bolts all the way through into the cabin, so it's only a matter of time before the rotting begins in the front deck. Also he didn't re-inforce the starboard rear lifting hook and it has pushed the transom in about 3/4" over about a 8"X10" area as it is a lift kept boat. He did alot of nice work, but neglected alot of basic parts of the rebuild as well. All and all it's a nice FORMULA, but definately not a concourse rebuild. I'll probably go and look at the SEACRAFT this week as well since it is a running boat for $6500 now.

Man, having internet is going to kill me. Now I need to get my HYDRA sold and maybe get rid of my WINNER as well.

I've been working on a 25 Hydra simular to the one you posted for a custmer of mine, that thing is a tank, and the cockpit is huge(full transom bracket boat). The cabin is a little weird, but its pretty big. I haven't spent any time in a 250 Wellcraft, so I don't know much about them, but it looks like you are stepping up beyond the 23 Formula/Seacraft size with this latest list.
I don't know if this one is still available, but its near by(me) and priced right http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...ad.php?t=13166 |

That Hydra and that Pursuit look sweet for sure
	 |

These are just a few that I found that looked like good deals. The final decision maker for me on the FORMULA was the fact that he told me he redid the boat in 07 with the new transom, deck, stringers, bracket, and paint. Yet when I got there and looked at it the sticker on it expired in 4-06. Now how do you completely redo a boat as well as paint it, and then put a sticker on that expired a year before you say you did the work? The SEACRAFT is pretty high on my list of likes though, and I would really like to find a 2350 PURSUIT or 2350 HYDRASPORTS as the 25 models just need to much HP to push em and be gentle on fuel.
	 |

I like the Pursuit a lot. That old airslot with the newer motor is a heckuva deal.
	 |

This might be a bit more up my budget range. He was asking $5500 for the whole lot, but now he has it priced to part it out.

Ferm, I like the Pursuit , very solid , I owned one once -But- The deck gets all kinds of wet in sloppy seas with four men on board. That was my first boat that got a bracket and a full transom job. The Wellcraft 23 Cuddy looks sweet. Good luck shopping. Prices are reasonable. If it is just the marinized toilet you need for Mrs. Ferm I got a Whaler for sale.LOL Price range, well, not as good as some.

I have been talking with him, lots of mods on that boat which has me a little concerned. It was originally a twin I/O converted to a bracket boat and then back to a single I/O.
That always scares me when you don't know the quality of the work done by multiple re-works and hidden under glass and paint. I like that style of boat though, comfortable to run in all day in any weather, ride like a dream in most seas and still be economical the way it is set up. Plus like our V's, it looks like a classic boat that gets the job done and done well. |

The 25 BERTRAM is a timeless classic right up there with the 23 FORMULA and it's big brother the 31 BERTRAM. A trailerable 25 footer with a 10 foot beam and a 24 degree dead-rise hull that can be powered by a single I/O and still run good speed and milage numbers is hard to beat. And even though it is built on the 24 degree dead-rise hull like the FORMULA is, it doesn't rock and roll and then throw you due to the wide beam and the lapstrake hull design. The guy with the SEACRAFT called me back so I'm probably gonna go take a look at it when the wife gets home.

If you run into a I/O project, I know where a Volvo XDP drive and transom plate is, plus a 5.7 that needs freshioning
