Motor is in!

Well was gonna use the flywheeel extractor to lift the motor, but when I went to the part store to get the bolts for the motor the guy had the correct Mercury lift piece that screws onto the flywheel center.

Got the bunks on the trailer finally, boat on the trailer, redistributed weight to get appropriate tongue weight and mounted motor. Great day!

I take it you bought this through somebody at a dealer you know? I know up here they went sell you a new engine unless they mount it at the dealer. Good lookin engine by the way, I bet you'll smile at the fuel pump. Every forum I go to all I hear about the 150 OPTI is it's amazing fuel economy and bottom end grunt it packs.

Looks GOOOD!
When you finish and get all the setups correct, performance numbers are expected!

Same bracket I had and the Merc looks great!! Good luck!

A few weeks away from numbers but they will come.

I can install but the dealer needs to do a PDI.

Wow, it is really looking great. I am not sure of this, and I hope others weigh in, but I do not think the way you did the bunks is good for your hull. I think you need to have the hull sitting on the wider portion of the 2x6 bunks. I have only seen pretty small boats sitting on bunks oriented vertically like yours are. Just looks like too much weight sitting on a 1 1'2" wide bunk. My trailer is set up much like yours, but with swivels on the top of the metal posts which hold the bunk, so the bunk can sit on an angle to match the hull.

Those are actually 4 X 8 bunks meant to be mounted vertically. Solid and quite heavy.

They have an angle on the top to accomodate for the hull angle.

I know the bunks you are talking about which are sideways 2X6 or so.

Very common to see trailers with these bunks down here for some reason. I guess it might have to do with our marinas and ramp heights.

This site shows the two different models:

I think he installed 3x10 bunks with a beveled edge. My trailer is set up the same as Joe's. I prefer the method you describe with the 2x6 laying flatwise but I am not going to re-engineer, I think it is OK.

joe7670 10-05-2009 10:52 AM

Ridge Runner, you are right it's 3X10 and not 4X8.

Better to be lucky than good:beer:

Looks like you are good to go Joe. Sorry, just looked like 2 x 6" in the picture. Best of luck with your rig and have a blast with it!

garbubba 11-07-2009 10:02 AM

bunks

I have the 3x8's on edge too & it seems to be a much sturdier arrangement, a 2 x 6 flat bend way too easy so your support is only close to where the brackets are.

I was skeptical of them when I bought the boat but it is one of the asiest to use & sturdiest trailer rigs I've used.

Nice lookin' rig

Doug
