Bow Pulpit Build
I refuse to pay the ridiculous price for a Bow Pulpit so I built my own and one for Ridge Runner as I promise in a previous post.
No screws (the four you see was removed after the resin set ) just mat and resin and gelcoat .. Started with Ply and resin and mat http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/DSCF0018.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/DSCF0033.jpg Sanded & Sanded, Gel then buff .. http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c.../DSCF00149.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c.../DSCF00150.jpg Ridge yours is to the left http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c.../DSCF00148.jpg Working on a bench seat for the splash well and two additional bucket seats .. |
Nice work....shoot if I knew all I had to do is ask.....lets just put in a standing order....whatever you make next....make me one too!:fam:

I must say the Bench seat is giving me a run for my money , I kept sanding the edges off and I am angry but came up with an idea to resolve it. I will post pictures and explain the issues in another post so hopefully if anyone is crazy as I am to take on such a task..Hey you indirectly started the "bench seat" idea after I saw yours |
They look great!! I love the wood but hate the up keep, I went with Starboard two 3/4 bolted together as I had it left over They work awesome!!
One thing Hammer did was to use a tilting roller and I wish I had, makes letting the anchor go very easy when alone!! Keep up the good work! http://www.wellcraftv20.com/gallery/..._173.sized.jpg |
That is going to be my next project, as i do a lot of bottom fishing, i might add a windlass too, i don't know yet, i had it on skiff and worked out great.

MJ - Nymack sent me the link where you guys built that one out of Starboard. Nice work. I made a shelf and a face for the underside of my console with the stuff.
Nymack - I tried to send you a pm. For some reason I can't submit it. I'll call. |

what lay up schedule did you have for the cloth. It didnt look like mat. How many layers?

what kind of wood did you use and how thick? how are you going to mount itand are you going to put in a roller?
|
Not to bash you but i think i would have used a heavier cloth or at least a few more layers of what you used. It looks like you used 6oz finish cloth. Only reason i say is because that thing is going to take a beating up front on the boat and it being subject to anchor chain and abuse it wont take much at all to get to the wood. Nice gel coat job tho. i suck something terrible with gel coat - pretty handy with epoxy tho.

Here we go finish at last, Its cold and I quit at 6 PM its freezing :) 60 degrees ! Don't laugh ! Can't believe I am saying this..
I modify the Bow rail to follow the anchor platform like I have seen it on boats with this kind of setup. Angle grinder with a cutting wheel used to cut the pipes it cuts like butter ! As for the 90 degree elbow in the middle of the rail, I will build a mount for a 360 remote flood light or spotlight whatever its called, sometime in the future when the price is right :) The wires will be fish through the rail into the cuddy for a clean look. I use the Bow rail I purchase a while back from a member on this site about two years ago.. Notice all the screws are mounted completly through the platform and the deck with aluminum plates inside for extra strength. I will never have a chain or rope attach full time, to protect my gel coat, using a clip I will connect the rope prior to launching (stay tune one of my co-captains will launch it without any rope attach I just know it ) Opps I just notice I did not remove the plastic tie strap I use to secure the anchor during the installation. As for the 12" cleat it will be handy when trying to lace a 1/2 " rope ? Paid $60 at West on ebay its 2 for 35 but hey I was in the get it done mode ! And YES I hate working with 5200 ! Only acetone cleans it ! Hey my lights am I good ? Not sure now looking at it .. Seat completion next ! Bow Rail before the modification Picture from a year ago ..Observe the teak before and after.. http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/DSC_0600.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/DSCF0106.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/DSCF0107.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/DSCF0108.jpg Please excuse the dust , I did now clean up after my work my bad, Yes 5200 still showing two left screws ! http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/DSCF0110.jpg http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/c...e/DSCF0111.jpg |
looks great ny, i might have missed it, but why not install a deck pipe and run the chain & rode down to the anchor locker in the bow. i used to do a lot of diving and i don't feel comfortable without at least 25 or 30 feet of chain.
neat install, i like the backing plates... |
Looks great! I like the look of that size. Can you tell me the dimensions length and width? That is my next project on mine when I bring it home next month. I am also thinking about the kind of pulpit where the anchor goes through ( don't know what it is called) so I can use my existing bow light.

Nice work, NY!!...gonna make hookin' that baby LOTS easier...great work and thanks for the pics!!...

Nice Job.....I have to push that project up the list now. I really do hate pulling that anchor up over the bow like I have to now....

Bow light
Did you think about flipping the "T" at the very front of bow railing and installing the navigation lights there? You could run the wiring thru the railing and have it mounted permanetly and out of the way.
