Desperately Seeking Windshield

I realize that windshields are hard to come by, but I have an 88 that I am repairing and I just spent a small fortune on repowering. Anyone out there willing to part with one. The rough measurements are 84 across (30x24x30) and 53" on the sides. The offset is 4 inches from the corner to the center. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I have searched pretty much everywhere online (Ebay, Taylor, iboats, Marine Liquidators, etc.)

Didn't Axe offer a windshield from one he was parting out recently?...

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Yeah, I am still hoping Axe's will fit, but I understand the pre-79 shields are different. Plus it may have bad glass. We'll see when the specs and pics come in. Just getting the word out there to any other possibilities. I am not going back on my word.

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

I would think if the frame fits, the glass would be the easy part to get.

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

You may have to get a different year, fill all your holes and make it fit!!
May be a little different, but I am sure most any V windshield would fit with a bit of work!!

I have one, the center section has been replaced with plexi-glass and is cloudy. It needs a support arm. RacerX was going to buy it but I couldnt figure out a way to ship it and I was real busy at the time with a new house and wife.

Mulv, I am waiting on Axe, but I would definitely be interested. That is if you suddenly found time away from the house and wife.

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Mulv, know any coffin salesman? That might make a good shipping crate.

macojoe 03-27-2007 12:12 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Coffen, that will cost so much!! :o

Any one that has one of them put toghter entertainment centers, that be a good box.

I would go to appliance store and get like a fridge box and coustom make my box.

boatnluvr 03-27-2007 01:16 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

High cost is true for a coffin, but I at least assume the trip would be gentle. :D Can the frames be separated?

macojoe 03-27-2007 03:55 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

yes they will come apart and then I would use cardboard between each section, then fit into a box or make my own box for shipping.

boatnluvr 03-27-2007 03:57 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Thanks MJ,

I emailed MULV stating that any MailBox, etc. or UPS store will package for you. But if they come apart, it will be easier. Still no sign of AXE.

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

I am getting a little excited. The marina just pulled off the old motor and will install the new one tomorrow once my jacking plate arrives. Now I just have to find time to work on it. I have to rewire, put on a windshield (hopefully not the wrong-fit one I have now, and re-install the tank , vent and hoses. I am having them install the new steering cable through the transom (required because of the jacking plate).

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Another reason for wanting the correct windshield is that I have a bimini and full enclosure. I do not really use it (I like the sun), but it is nice to know it would fit.

I'm looking for an enclosure, and I have a spare sliding hatch also.

I'm in Philadelphia, PA. I'd be interested in a trade do you have any pictures of the enclosure? Is it in good shape?

boatnluvr 03-27-2007 04:37 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Sorry, no pics of it. It is on Cape Cod 75 miles away from me. To be honest, I put it away (gently) 2 years aga, right after I replaced a zipper. It is in good shape and the panels were pretty clear. It is blue. I may be heading to the Cape this weekend, if the wife allows it. I can pull it out and check for you. I assume you won't need the bimini (You'll need a zipper on yours). I'll also see if I can find any "like" pics in the gallery. Would you consider selling the windshield in the meantime and then we can discuss the enclosure?

MJ:

Here's a similar enclosure. Cudos to the guy who owns the pic (GOD??). Mine is blue and has the mooring cover that extends from the bimini to the transom.

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

Actual pics to follow. MULV has first dibs, since he his supplying a much needed windshield. Do you guys already have biminis?

macojoe 03-28-2007 01:24 PM

Re: Desperately Seeking Windshield

I have the bimim already, But if he does take the enclouser, and you come to the cape to get it, I like to meet up with you to make a copy of all the pieces if thats alright.
I have a girl with a comercial sew machine and if I buy all the stuff she will sew for me.
I know I might have to tweak it a bit if I measure yours, but at least I have a close pattern to go by.

Thanks
