Knocked a few things off the list
Hit 70 degrees here yesterday and 63 today....Actually got some thing knocked off the list.
Finally got to work on installing the bimini and enclosure. Fortunately I took measurements off the boat which the enclosure came from so there wasnt too much guess work. I'll have to ajust some snaps on the fiberglass itself. They almost fit exactly but are off just enough I cant get them all to go. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2851.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2855.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2850.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2867.jpg Got the ss through hull fittings in. Still need to screw on the check valves and hook up the hose. Hope they work. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2852.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2853.jpg Removed and sanded all the teak an reoiled back in the fall. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2857.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2856.jpg Was at a marina last weekend poking around in there loft for stuff. found this 150 hp engine cowling. gave it to me for $20. Its not perfect there is a small crack on the top and some fading on the other side but its 1000 times better than my old one. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...0/DSCF2854.jpg |
Man, that's some good lookin stuff there Wilson!!

That ain't no 150 cowl. That is a V6 Speshul cowl. What's your address again? |
looking great

Better than me!
Way to stay on the ball,,,, I had two beers and threw the list in the trash. To pretty on the water this weekend!

Good job!!! I see you gotcha a lil helper too!

Hmmm its off a 225? The placard on the front (or back??) says 2.6 Liter. I looked it up and thought that put it in the 150 hp range. Either way sounds like you like it. (and I'm not telling where I live) I already threw out my original 150 cowl. Find me a decent looking 150 cowl and I'd be more than willing to trade it! |

http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/093.jpg It was only a 2.6L but it made 220HP thru compression and timing and uses high test gas only. My cowl is all faded and it would be neat to get an original in good shape so I'll keep my eyes out for an original 150 cowl. But if that doesn't work out I wonder if you could get me some all around photo shots of yours so that I have something to go by if I just repaint mine. Here is a picture that shows the condition of mine: http://www.monkeybutler.com/boat/007.jpg Thanks in advance. Steve P. |

What a beauty, Good job, nice enclosure ..

Monkey Butler, heres pics of the engine cowl . if you want I can email them to you in larger format for more detail. I grabbed my old cowl out of the dumpster at work before it was gone.... how hard is it to get the old decals off? I was in the process of getting ready to redo mine...had the plastic placards off and was getting ready to tackle the decals when I found the other one.. It would be nice to figure something out for you although there are some issues on the top with the crack and all......I was never crazy about the false advertising any way!

Thanks so much for taking the time Mr. Wilson. This only proves why this is the biggest little site on the Whirled Wild Web. You just cain't get this stuff no where else!
Awsome shots and if you would send me Hi-Res that would be appreciated. You can send them to anything in front of @ monkeybutler.com and I will get them but between you and me and everyone else here use [email protected] I guess my first question is why would you chuck your old hood? You could get something off of ebay I bet? Secondly, as far as removing the graphics the only way I think is by sanding the old ones off and doing a repint but replacement decals are over $200! I think Master Skools has expertise in this area and I hope he will chime in. Until then with a few more posts I should be able to get a lock on your locale and then.... |

Wilson, I noticed the NJ registration. Where about are you doing most of your boating? By the way the boat looks great:clap:

For quick trips I go freshwater to Lake Hopatcong, NJ....although the lake is screwed this year as they lower the water level 4'+ every 5 years so people can maintain their bulkheads and docks....with the cold December we had the lake froze early and they couldnt raise it without risking damage to docks....as a result they only just closed the dam last week....unless we get ALOT of rain this spring there will be no boating there for a while.. For saltwater I go to Raritan Bay, usually out of Leonardo (because Atlantic Highlands is usually full by the time I can get my act together) Sometimes out of Liberty State Park by the Statue for cruising NY. Havent made it down to your neck of the woods yet but hopefully soon. |
How'd you come across that enclosure? Looks Great.

Good find on that enclosure...it'll STRETCH the season for ya...nice lookin' V...you and yer little companion have lots of stories to to come...

Very nice Wilson, let me know when you want to hook up on the valley since we can't do it on Hopatcong like we talked about. They are slamming Lakers there now with some nice Rainbows and Browns coming in

If i may ask, where did u pick up the through the hull fittings etc??i have to change mine out also, and cant find them and was it a difficult job??thanks

dont worry about the "sale ends today" We established its free shipping whenever you purchase. changing them was a piece of cake at least on mine....the inside nut came off very easily and a few wacks with a hammer knocked the old ones right out. a little scraping inside the hole to clean it up and a light wet sand on the outside and the new ones were good to go in. The ss ones have two tabs in them that you will need a radiator spud wrench (see picture) so you can stop it from spinning when you tighten the inner nut. they probably have other tools for that but I happen to have one because I have cast iron radiators in my house which I changed the nipples on. you dont need to get them crazy tight anyway i dont think. the sealant is what holds them in place I think http://www.statesupply.com/content/c...ges/GU2180.jpg |

In the meantime if you need someone to help you wet a line let me know.... |
do the through the hull come with scuppers on the inside to stop the water from coming in on the deck??i looked on the site and could not find them..

I bought the PVC check valves from Mcmaster Carr, they are for plumbing applications and not made specially for boats. They were a little over $10 a piece. PVC Swing Check Valveshttp://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/115/.../45275kp1s.gif
Pipe End-to- Cv Clear PVC White PVC Size End Lg. Factor Each Each 1" 4 9/16" 656274T74 $17.17 45275K34 $10.84 I wouldnt rush out to get them just yet because I am not sure if they are going to work . I cut the barb off the through hull and screwed them right to the through hull. Problem is because of the length of them and the fact that the through hull is mounted on a slight angle the inlet to the check valve is now at about the same height as the floor drain. As a result it is trapping water in the drain and it is not draining too quickly. I am going to relocate them in the middle of the hose section and see if I can get the height right. I'll let you know how it works out. |

r wilson .. how did you make out with those thru hulls and check valves???? i have one i need to replace that drains my fish box, but it looks like it has some kind of check valve inside it to prevent water from coming inside.
looked at those thru hulls from marinedepot .. they do not have the one way flow???? i assume some do and some do not? i need to buy a few, but want to get the correct ones.. |
