That is sweet, wish it was closer I would probably try something there. That motor will be sweet on that hull, she sits well on the waterline with it and will have a nice efficient cruise, with a long motor life.

I ran a 248 offshore from 86' through 94'. It is the best boat I've ever owned overall, it has enough deadrise and still rides economically at cruise. I've had that hull 140 miles offshore once and over 100 miles many times. I almost lost mine once on a winter snapper trip to the fault of the plastic through hull fittings....replaced them all with bronze afterwards. Also had a near miss in huge seas with faulty fuel pickups that had been silver soldered instead of welded....one broke and fell in the tank and the other cracked and sucked air, fixed that problem with heli-arc'd stainless pickups. Many wiring problems due to automotive grade wires.....replaced with tinned marine grade stuff. After those first few problems, it was trouble free for many years. We sold the boat looking about as good as new, not a single stress crack on the hull and over 2000 offshore hours.

That one's about 4 hrs down the road in L River...if I ever got in one of those, I don't think I'd EVER let it go...it couldn't be as great a boat as I think it is or EVERYBODY would have one...

I really think that you could call the V-20 the Jeep of the Sea, it's just that versatile and well conceived that I don't think anybody who has been around boats would argue that. And if the V-20 is the Jeep then the Wellcraft 248/250 Sportsman/Coastals should be referred to as the Wellcraft Deuce 'n a Halfs. ( Get it 250.... 2.5??? 2-1/2???).
Both great boats, and if we ever needed to go to war with only two small pleasure craft to choose from, these would be it. With 50 cals. on the foredeck, of course. Seriously, if your tow vehicle is rated at 6500 lbs. and you can use the space of the Deuce 'n a half then go for it. It's a lot of boat in a trailerable size. It is not built like a tank but they seem to have a bit of longevity so good hulls pop up often. The one for three grand seems like a good deal. I paid almost that for mine before the economy sunk. Anything over 2K for the hull plus whatever the motor is worth is crazy though. |
actually , neither, i just saw it on craigs list. i could call and find out the particulars if your interested
