It's not a V-20

I finally sold the carvel so I was briefly without boat. My search ended today with a 92 model Mako 210 walkaround in excellent condition. Though it is not the beloved V-20 I'm sure I'll still have some questions yall can answer and I like the interesting people here so I'll still be hanging around.

I really like that model Mako, good luck with it. Not to steer you away from here but make sure you check out ClassicMako.com, there is a ton of info over there.

I REALLY like that Mako. I would love to see some pix of the cabin when you get a chance. Welcome to the madness.

I was going to say the same thing.....have you had her out yet?

eight 02-04-2009 09:45 AM

Haven't had it out yet. I will this weekend. I've had some stuff going on at work and haven't made it home at a decent time this week.

Cabin is pretty basic. Plenty of height for sitting up. No sink, stove, or any of that.

Nothing wrong with a Mako

There's nothing wrong with a 21' Mako. Their 20 footer rides hard and wet but there's enough deadrise on the 21' hull to make it ride great without too much roll.

gofish 02-05-2009 12:49 AM

Nice rig eight!

Let us know how she handles when you get the chance, oh and more pics too.

eight 02-05-2009 08:28 PM

OK, I finally got some pics.

I will be adding a kicker. I mounted this 10hp short shaft sea king on the transom to see how one would fit. It does fit well and the motors would not hit once the steering is connected. It appears the short shaft may work but it probably needs a 20" shaft. I will be looking for something about 20hp.

That's a great looking boat!

reelapeelin 02-06-2009 04:20 PM

DANG!!...that's a really nice boat, eight...great cold weather protection...have ya got a shot from the helm lookin' back toward the transom...looks like a dance floor sized deck there...

shweet!!!

willy 02-06-2009 05:38 PM

Very nice, nice style and I know they ride well, good luck with her

randlemanboater 02-06-2009 09:18 PM

Looks like she's been inside all her life!

eight 02-07-2009 03:48 PM

It was kept on a covered sling with a boat cover on it from 97 to 08. It was an old man's boat, who gave it to his son in law in 06. Apparently both took good care of it. Now I have to follow along. There is not a scratch on the bottom of the hull. I'll have to keep it out of the shallow water. I still haven't decided if I will refrain from beaching it. Guess I couldn't climb over the bow with it beached anyway.

eight 02-07-2009 03:51 PM

Tomorrow will be the first trip. I loaded my boat junk into it yesterday and found good places for everything. The only thing I'm not sure of is the anchor rope. I haven't found a good place to store it.

eight 02-09-2009 11:34 PM

It seems to work fine. Takeoff is fine with 5 people aboard. Top speed was 41 mph and cruise 32 mph at 4000 rpm. Holds good on plane to 22 mph. With 20mph winds the water was rather rough. It was a completely dry ride and rather smooth given the 2' chop. It needs trim tabs as it leans much and using the outboard to lower the bow for a smooth ride is inefficient. Hydraulic steering would also be nice but adjusting the little fin should make it acceptable with cable steering.

I agree. The 20' was a dog. Very well built boat,...heavy too. Congrats.

I had a 9.9 yamaha 4 stroke on a 24 grady as the kicker. It worked better than a 25 hp 2 stroke on my v20. Check out the 4 strokes designed as kickers unless you have a big 2 stroke just laying around. Mine had a stainless linkage connecteing the kicker to the main motor that worked well too. You really don't want to hand steer a kicker from the motor well for 5 hours....been there and never want to do it again.

Nice boat!

I got my check for title transfers back today. Post office found it lost in the mail. No titles with it.

eight 02-23-2009 09:05 PM

Found the titles. They got sent back to the guy I bought the boat from. He said they're ripped in half

eight 05-28-2009 12:54 PM

I finally got it out in the gulf last weekend. It was as smooth as I've seen it out of the jetties then picked up to 3-4' and too close together on the way out. Ride was great for a small boat, got it to fly once though. Barely beat a lighting storm on the way in, it opened up as we climbed into the truck. Ran about 70 miles on 48 gallons, including trolling most of the day. I put trim tabs on it about a month ago the they have really improved the ride. I really need to learn to take pictures.

Bloody decks lately. 5 gallon washdown has been working hard.

Good fight on this one until a big splash, this would have been in the mid 40s.
