2001 Mercury 225 EFI only about 500 hours

$2500

This motor runs flawlessly and I will back that up with a money back guarantee. It is a 30” shaft motor standard rotation. This is the EFI Mercury Saltwater series. It comes with everything needed to but it own your boat.

$2500

Do it MJ, Do it!!!!!

macojoe 01-28-2009 06:26 PM

NO!! CB says I have no self control I told him yes I do!! But he is right I don't! LOL

I really don't have the cash right now to spare, well maybe but I am in the middle of remolding the house.

I no I will regret it But I am going to pass, I have a sweet 175 right now and it really does push the boat OK, and I can't beat the gas mileage.

But what a deal!!

spareparts 01-28-2009 06:29 PM

yeah, the 3.0s like the fuel, but they sure will push a heavy boat good.

Shhhhhhh:zip:
Go ahead and do it any way, I won't tell anyone

macojoe 01-28-2009 06:32 PM

LOL But CB is there with a bat I know it!! :bat:

willy 01-28-2009 10:42 PM

how can you use a 30" shaft on your boat MJ? or on a V?

With that long heavy tug MJ has, a jack plate wouldn't hurt him a bit.

macojoe 01-29-2009 12:55 AM

Thats right, a jack plat is the way to go, and even on a V (not this motor to big and heavy) a jack plate on a short bracket would help alot with getting the power head up out of the water!

30" would not scare me one bit!!

Don't worry CB, MJ will have it in the spring waiting for you to install it:nut:.

macojoe 01-29-2009 10:10 AM

He is my money manger, I told you he would not let me do it!! LOL

Mulv80 01-29-2009 11:53 AM

My brother has a 225 Merc on the back of a 22ft Angler Cuddy. The Angler is definetly lighter than your Sea Ox, but man that motors got some power. It pushes his Angler to 44mph - 46mph light load. Its just a power house of a motor.

macojoe 01-29-2009 01:19 PM

belive it or not, I have a 175 Merc, and with 2 people and 110 gal gas I curz all day at 25 knots, and toped out with triming at 33 knots.

Drove out 20 miles and back 25 miles trolling all day in between, total of 6 1/2 hours running never shuting it down, for $34 of gas!!

spareparts 01-29-2009 06:50 PM

and to think, you wern't too keen on the idea of having a Merc, now you're bragging on it

macojoe 01-29-2009 07:29 PM

for the moment, we shall see when she has to work a hole season??

spareparts 01-29-2009 08:31 PM

once you go black(mercury), you never go back

Dishnet:

I'm interested. Is it a 25" shaft extended to 30 or a pure 30" shaft? Also any pics of the powerhead and how about some compression numbers?

Thanks

Kamikaze

Perfidiajoe 02-01-2009 07:45 AM

MJ I don't know if you remember, but I said in a previous post, I run the same boat. A 23 Sea Ox, hard top, w/ a 225 merc. on a bracket. If you concider this engine I will give you my numbers as for fuel burn & performance. I will tell you this, my 225 EFi is a little more thirsty than your 175. Either way the Ox is a good boat, I loved my V20, but I really feel good in the Ox. Maybe we will have a good year, after all this Chinese New Year, (Mon. 1-26) starts the year of the OX. Good Luck, Joe

macojoe 02-01-2009 08:55 AM

If I had the cash I might have gone for it.

As for fuel, I am sure if so stay off the throttle its not all that bad. My 225 Evinrude was fine as long as I stayed off it, But hit that throttle and you might has well knock a hole it in the tank!!

Yes year of the OX we should have a great year!

That EVINRUDE you had MJ was one of the best carbed big 2 strokes for fuel milage ever built. The 3.0L MERCS are good on fuel as well though. If you keep the oil injection(which alot do on the 3.0L's since they were pretty good) they do use ALOT of oil. The one that we had averaged close to 35:1 on oil when running it at a 4200 RPM cruise, and it smoked like a SOB at idle.

deshet 02-04-2009 11:00 AM

the motor is in a metal crate. I don't have compressions numbers but I do have a sheet that show the fuel burn rates at different RPMs prior to being removed from the boat.

The motor is a 30" motor. I don't know what you mean by extended or not. It is a mercury factory built 30" motor.

If you are interested and have the funds call me 757-271-4012...... please don't call if you are not extremely interested or if you don't have money

This motor is a deal if you need one.....I have had a lot of local interest and cash is cash and the first cash gets it.

Thanks,

macojoe 02-05-2009 02:39 PM

He was asking if someone extended it after market, they have kits for that. But you have answered that saying it was factory.

I am still wishing I had the cash!! You have a layaway plan? J/K

Good Luck!!

THEFERMANATOR 02-05-2009 10:36 PM

Some of the factory 30" engines also came with a 5" spacer in them. MERCURY did this for some time back in the 90's. At one time they were all 20's and had a 5" or 10" spacer for them depending upon shaft length.
