Funny you should mention that, I have been exploring the go fast boat world lately. Trying hard to resist it, but it looks so fun.

Tell me all about your V-king and show some pics if you have some.

That picture next to my ID Tag is my buddies boat, he got rid of it 2 years ago. Some of the most exciting and memorable boating experiences came from racing his 18' Donzi for over 10 years. It cost him $$$ and he did all the work himself. He started off with a 60mph boat and by the last two seasons we were doing 120mph+(documented).

Check out the pics
The pictures with the life jacket on is the owner, notice the parachute attached to the back of his neck.
The last one is of us a few years ago in the Roar on the Hudson poker run with me behind the wheel.

When I had my first kid 3 years ago I decided it was no longer worth the risk.

YEAH, RIGHT! I remember with my flats boat I said I'll be happy to hit 55 with it, then I hit 55. Next thing you knew I bought another prop so I could hit 60. Good thing I sold it because I talked to somebody else who was running 63 in his, if I had kept it I would have had to push it to 65. Speed is an addiction, you should know that. I'm sure you have wrote enough tickets to speeding addicts.

randlemanboater 08-25-2008 12:49 PM

Cool pics JJ. I have NO desire to go 120 mph on the water, one arm twitch at the wrong time and you are DEAD! I just am toying with the idea of maybe going 75-80.

FERM, i am very lucky that my line of work provides a decent living AND daily speed fixes for my addiction.:sand:

CT, I like the name......but it is probably more of a project than I want to take on.

cterrebonne 08-25-2008 01:00 PM

randleman i also have a 1993 2.5 merc carbed 20" that will push the boat easily into the upper 70's i also have controlls and guages the engine needs to be put back together its bored out on only one cyl by 15 thousanths.plus i might be able to throw in a sea star steering. $4700 for everything.

I don't think my buddy did either. If I remember right he dreamed of just hitting 70mph did it then 80.......Well let's see if we can hit tripl digits.... 110mph.......nest thing you know....hollycrap we are over 120. THEFERMANATOR sounds like he knows the feelings.

Might as well give it a shot though, get it out of your system.

Got a '94 v-hull 15'11" Ashcraft from my father that had a 90 on it. The first time I took it out he said "don't go over 5500 with it and you'll be allright". This boat only had a depthfinder and a tach on it. While in Florida fishing one year I asked him to open it up and see what it would do, later in the afternoon he obliged. I had the GPS in hand, once it got up to 56mph he backed off and leveled out. We had a full compliment of gas, bait tackle, all the stuff for a days fishing. At the fish camp I asked him why he backed off of the motor, his reply was "I still don't have the right prop on that thing and it will overturn the motor". We later removed the 90 and replaced it with a 50, at least it will sit in the water more level instead of having to look to the rear to see if water is comming over the transom. Much better as a flats boat instead of a haulass.
That Hydro Stream has a lot of the same lines as the Hydra Sports bass boats have.

I had a Donzi 18 for a while and threw away a bunch of money on her. She sure was fun though. I guy I used to knows father took one of those old hydrostream hulls and cut the deck and cap down, painted it white, and put a poling platform on the back and had a decent looking and unique flats boat.
