VA BCH FISHING

I WENT TODAY WITH 2 FRIENDS FROM WORK AND ONE OF THE THE COWORKERS BROUGHT IS 10YR OLD SON (WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT HE IS), ONE OF THEM LIVES UP THERE BY THE LESNER BRIDGE.

WE WENT OUT TO THE GREEN CAN, MARKED PLENTY OF FISH CAUGHT NONE.
WENT TO SEA BOUY 4, MARKED A FEW CAUGHT NONE.

WENT TO CHES BAY BRIDGE, MARKED A LOT OF FISH CAUGHT ONE ON MY LUCKY POLE MR STUBBY.

BOYS IT WAS ROUGH PART OF THE DAY BUT I DIDN'T SEE 3 OTHER FISH CAUGHT ALL DAY.

OYEA BY THE WAY, $50.00 IN GAS FOR THE BOAT, $25.00 IN GAS FOR THE TRUCK TO GET THERE, LOST A STRETCH 30, AND 3 OTHER LURES BY THE BRIDGE, ANOTHER $25.00.

SO THAT MAKES $100 FOR 1 FISH 19 1/4" LONG, SEEING THE PAIN IN THE BUTT BOY THROW UP FOR *3 HOURS "PRICELESS".

Chumming people, yes that is priceless, especially when they
talk a big talk.

Oh yea, Garage, remember I talked to you about my son
moving back east?
I think he has decided to move in with me and take over my farmhouse.
For right now, it is big enough for two families.
And my grand daughter will be living with us as well.

I feel the pain, it costs me 130 bucks per trip on gas alone (boat and truck) add lures, bait, rigging, oil etc etc... :o

Businesses are hurt too, less trips to the ramps is a multimillion dollar overall impact.

Sounds like money well spent to me ;D

I got you beat - its about double that for me. Its a 3.5 hour drive one way to the salt.

nipper 12-03-2007 06:01 PM

Re: VA BCH FISHING

Heck, it was 1000 miles for me to get to the salt when I went to visit my Mom. Closest big water to me is Lake Michigan--about 4 1/2 hours each way. Oh well, I still love my "mud puddle" boating in the V.

That is why I need to move closer to the water...like Sean... Maybe one day I wont need to drive 90 fri**ing miles one way to launch my boat. Rhode Island here I come ;D

Man, I feel terrible for some of youz guys. I bet there are 100 ramps into the salt within 50 miles of my house, including 3 within 2 miles of home. Dam shame I can't use them more often ;D

Re: VA BCH FISHING

hey par let the son take over the farm house, more $ for you to fish with. ;).

Went out Sunday in the sound by me, got to fish 1hr 30 min, the stripers were boiling the water. Me and my buddy caught 58.
We had nice fish for the sound around 22" long with 5 up to 28"lg. That's not bad for the Albermarle Sound where the water is brackish. We get to keep 3 a piece with minimal size at 18" and not slot or max

This trip cost me 2 gallons of gas.

2ndchance 12-07-2007 05:31 PM

Re: VA BCH FISHING

All I got to say is you can't catch a Striper with the remote in your hand. You got to go look for them and sometimes you find them and somtimes you don't. Thats why its called fishing. A friend of mine says that you got to pay your dues before you start catching and he is right. At least you were fishing.

Re: VA BCH FISHING

Thanks! Man,I didnt think it was that far out to the sound. Are you still catching stripers (rock) out there? I wish they would come on up the Chowan river, guess its got ta get colder for that ta happen! Oh, Congrats on your retirement. My dad worked at NNSY for 38 years, had a heart attack and passed away 2 weeks before he got his first retirement check. He was only 56. It must be pretty stressful in there.

Re: VA BCH FISHING

Sorry to hear about your dad C FELT, it can be stressful. I went out to Rudee Last Friday and we only got one (Cape Charles) but it was a 39lber. I'm going to go later this week if you want to go. You Too 2nd.

BY the way I put the new 350 in her last winter and Last friday when we went out the motor ran for 8.5 hrs and it averaged 1.7 gal a hour. Not bad I didn't think.

cfelton 01-02-2008 02:40 AM

Re: VA BCH FISHING

Thats pretty good gas milage I think for a 350. I know you got ta have plenty of power. If I werent working Id love ta go. Im on 11-7 now, starting 3-11 friday. Catch one for me! they are some good eatin! We usually bake them whole with potatoes and onions smothered with bacon , and have filleted them an cooked em on the grill, mighty tasty.

garagenc 01-03-2008 07:44 PM

Man, Thats a nice rock you got there Garage! Yall use eels or artifical bait ?

chumbucket 01-05-2008 10:36 PM

Beauty garage. I can't wait for spring when they'll be back here.

macojoe 01-05-2008 11:46 PM

Nice fish!!:tounge:

garagenc 01-06-2008 09:27 PM

no eels we caught him on a artificial bait that looks somewhat like a fatback (menhadden for all you yankees) ha ha.

I went Saturday and caught 4 with the smallest being 32lbs and the biggest 41lbs. We caught all 4 of them on that same lure.

I'll post pics in the next couple of days.

Stillrunning 01-07-2008 03:26 PM

Did you weigh in that 41 pounder for your citation.

Sean 01-07-2008 03:46 PM

Nice going!! just about 3 months to any signs of Stripers make there way up hear :-(

garagenc 01-14-2008 03:46 PM

No I don't do the citation thing, nothing against it just to lazy.

Blue_Runner 01-14-2008 04:02 PM

Pretty fish Garage!

My buddies are going next weekend. They called and asked me today if I was going to make it. I'm still undecided, but likely will not make it.

Wish I could though. Nice Hawg! Storm swim bait?

Stillrunning 01-14-2008 04:06 PM

I caught one last year and my buddy got all excited about how it was big enough for a release citation. I told him the only release of that fish was into a hot oil bath.

Blue_Runner 01-14-2008 04:29 PM

I released some last year. Minus the fillets.

The only thing that they have hit consistant is a Wordens lure, the one that looks like a menhaden or croacker.

I'm going to cook some up Monday for supper.

I'll probably go next weekend myself.

Anyone want to go?

Blue_Runner 01-16-2008 10:31 AM

Update - buds aren't going this weekend but have decided to go the NEXT weekend which is 1/25, actually leave on 24 and fish 25, 26. I think we are going to truck on up to Va Beach out of Rudee. We can save a hell of alot of gas IMO.

So who's going? Garage, SR, Slot? We'll have at least 2 boats, maybe 3 or 4.

Gotta get my ducks in a row this weekend! Heehawg! :jump:

Blue_Runner 01-16-2008 10:33 AM

Hey Garage, do most folks go south out of the inlet to find the fish? Or north. Might be a dumb question...I know it depends. I've never been out of that inlet b4.

garagenc 01-16-2008 12:27 PM

Right now the fish are anywhere from right out of the inlet to South to sandbridge (abt 8 miles from the inlet). We have caught them from cape henry (where James river and chesp bay empty into the ocean) to Sand Bridge. The bite seems to be from before daybreak to about 10:00 and then it starts again after 2:00. I'd start from right the inlet to south and then see where the majority of the boats go. Follow the Poacher (oregon inlet boat) but based up there now. Dark blue hull with white tower, Follow him and he'll find fish. 2nd choice is to follow the Free Agent with Captn Cato (another boat from NC).

The 25th I'm going to NewBern (Shriner's ceremony) Sorry I'd like to meet up with everyone.

Ps, Owls Creek is the free boat ramp that leads out of Rudee but if you want to get out without any hassel get there EARLY, about 5:00am, I got there last weekend at 6:00 and the main ramp parking area was already full. (they have a overflow area across the road with plenty of room). Most of the traffic to get into the ramp comes from the north and most wont let you turn in if you are coming from the south. Last Saturday was so bad that Sunday they put a cop out there to help traffic.

Daybreak is about 7:00 but you can see well enough to run out of the inlet at 5:30.

REMEMBER you can't gaff strippers in VA. Don't carry the gaff because if you get boarded I've heard they will write you a ticket if youre inside the 3 mile limit.

Blue_Runner 01-16-2008 02:40 PM

Some good advice - I thank you for it. Thats kinda what I was thinking to begin with. The main thing is look for the birds or the fiberglass jungle. Usually you find one and you find the other.

I've fished next to Poacher before. I don't have the balls to pull up behind Rick Caton (Free Agent). Rick don't be liking outboards driving all his fish down. :p

If you have to GAFF a stripper you just ain't paying her enough :rotf:

No really, I'm glad you reminded me of this rule. That would really piss me off to get ticketed just for having one onboard.

garagenc 01-16-2008 07:15 PM

No problem, just glad I thought to tell you. No kidding aside, I'd like to get some of the V20 boys together and get after them strippers.
