Stuck lower unit drain plug

Anybody got any ideas how to loosen the lower unit oil drain plug in an outdrive? Its your standard flat blade screw. Damn thing won't come lose and I am nervous as hell about causing any internal damage by heating it up. Ive used a ton of WD on it don't seem to make a difference. Thanks

impact driver, you know the thing you hit with a hammer that spins the driver bit, you can rent one from the local auto parts store, I think harbour freight sells them pretty cheap, Sears has them for $25(?)

allmost forgot, make sure you use a screwdriver bit that fits the entire slot, they are kinda hard to find

I got one of these, tried it, did not work. I'm alittle nervous to bang too much and bugger the threads.

I dont know if this will help but use this screwdriver ALWAYS on a lower unit. its short and wont slip off as much http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...ed+screwdriver

it helps sometimes to have someone else apply pressure while you turn the screwdrive with a wrench. Either that or just buy a new lower unit :oh:

I have taken a hammer and a small blunt chisel, and tapped the slot in the direction the screw need to go to come out. heat won't hurt either, there not anything around that screw inside that you can damage with heat( as long as its not excessive)

wd40 isn't helping get some Kroil to get it loose and use a map gas torch heat up just the drain plug it will expand from heat and loosen the threads then re kroil and then use the hand help impact screwdriver to get it out it will come for sure.

being a mechanic for the past 7 years, using a good impact screw driver and tip i never had one not come off.
