whoops

talk about a dilema. i building a deck on a realy nice house on the beach in pass christian. i was just setting here going over some paperwork (aaaarrrrrggghhhh!!!!) when i realized i messed up the price on this project. at my square foot price for this type of deck i should have charged the guy $14806.04 with tax. instead, not syre how, i charged him $23592.60. the guy didnt bat an eye when i gave him the price. he is a very wealthy man (oil man) and this is just one of his vacation homes. he has already signed the contract, made the deposit, and the project is well underway. should finish by the end of the week.
i pride myself on being an honest man. and we all know what the honest thing to do here is. but, we're talkin $8788.56! for me, all for me! i mean, this guy flies into town on his private jet. his watch cost more than my house! he owns one of the, if not the largest oilfield services companies in louisiana. i mean, that little bit of change aint nothin to him. but to me, $8788.56 is a butt load of money.
but, right is right, and wrong is wrong. what do y'all think?

Re: whoops

Show him all the material receipts, labor costs,
your profit margin and negotiate.

He may at least cover all the material and labor costs.
If he is an honest person, then he will realize your error and still pay the full amount.

Be up front with the guy, I am sure he has been ripped off in the past and
if you are honest with him, he will most likely appreciate the effort.

rich or poor he deserves the same consideration you would show someone who is not wealthy.

morality does not have an accountant.

do the right thing.

Re: whoops

Did you quote him the $23K price before you began work? And he signed a contract for that price?

Re: whoops

I read your post wrong, I thought you under charged.

Anyway, be honest and give him a refund.
Even in our business, we deal with the big three and the big truck makers.

If we overquote tooling and assembly lines,
we only charge the customer for the amount that we used.
If we under quote, we try to negotiate, but sometimes we have to eat the overages.

Re: whoops

GIVE HIM 50% OF THE AMOUNT YOU OVERCHARGED HIM,
THAT'LL COVER UP FOR THE TIMES YOU UNDERQUOTE PEOPLE AND HAVE A TO EAT IT.
