Hatch seals

I need to find a way to seal the hatch lids on my boat. I dont like any water in the bilge, and if any water hits the deck it finds its way down there immediately.

Is there a product that either slips over the edge of the hatch lids, or glues to the inner lip of the hatch opening, that will stop leakage?

I used weatherstripping I bought at Lowes. It worked OK for about a season but needed replacing after that. It had 3M adhesive (tape) on one side and a rubber/vinyl weatherstripping on the other.

F1...you're GONNA get water in the bilge, Bro...it's gotta happen...understand wanting to minimize it, though...main thing to that point is make sure bilge pump is good and has HOT battery hooked to it... ;) ;D

Fillet1 , Wellcraft included on some year models an insert that would drop in much like those in the transom wells . It collects any water that may enter under the hatch . My 1994 does not have one but my friend's 1988 does . I would like to have one for my boat . A wave over the stern could spell *trouble if the hatch were to lift open gulp down a couple of hundred gallons.

Labii - I agree.

Also, I want my bilge pump to work as little as possible when in the boat is in its slip. If rain collects in the bilge constantly (rather then running out my scuppers) then the pump runs constantly. Soon, the battery dies, no more pump, the scuppers clog, and then I am looking at an insurance claim!
