Re: Installing NFB Steering Helm

Hey guys,

I finally got it installed, but it's not as easy to turn the wheel as I would have thought. Is that normal for these systems?

Good job ByGrace...yup...you'll feel some resistance when it's new...that's the "clutch" inside the helm that provides the "No-Feed-Back" ...it'll loosen up w/time ...but right now it shouldn't be "EXCESSIVE" ... do you think it is?...what position did you have motor when trying?...

did you fill the tube that goes on the steering box with grease? I always pump 3 or 4 pumps ofgrease in both sides of the steering box and i put 3 to 4 pumps in the tube and then put inthe boat but yeah new ones are a little tight

Thanks Reel and Skools.

Okay... It's tight, but I'm not sure it's excessive. I didn't add any oil as Skools suggested, perhaps I should redo it???

Also, should I add some grease to where the other end goes into the tilt tube?

The steering cable is pretty tight under the dash where it bends up to the helm. Hopefully, it's not too tight that it puts too much stress on the cable. I'll snap some pics tomorrow.

well i would grease the tilt tube on the motor and the tube on the steering box. both would help all. just turn the motor hard withthe steering arm all the way out then rub some grease on the arm and then turn back in with steering wheel, i want to see completed pics to see how well my parts fit from so far away.

Will do, pics are the least I can do for you bro. ;)

Although, I sort of jacked up the plastic helm cover. I got a little carried away in making the cutouts to clear the bolts... I think I'll just 5200 and then throw on a little black touch up paint over it...

small tube of black 5200 will fix it or try the other cover ;D

Sweet! I didn't even know they made that stuff in black. Good to know.

I may try it again on the other cover first though :P

if you use black 5200 i don't know if you know it but you can clean 5200 up and off your unwanted areas with mineral spirits paint thinner ;D
