Here's some pics of the boat getting the floor plan fine tuned so I can take some measurements and references to cut holes in my floor for my utility/acess hatches. And also a couple pictures of my 2 beautiful ladies!!!!!

Coming right along, I'm looking forward to your paint job. Quit :cen: around with lights and get to sprayin!

I kid, my neighbors must think I have a screw loose for the amount of time I just stare at my boat thinking of the goodies I want to put on her.

Funny you say the word PAINT! I just ordered a my Interlux epoxy primer. I still have alot of construction and glassing to do on the cap and alot of fairing to do on the whole boat. Im hoping to be priming in the next 4 weeks. and yes my neighbors think im crazy also!! I took that one picture off the roof of my shed and my 81 year old neighbor came out and said qoute on qoute " your eat up with that boat arent ya son" and I just laughed.

tartuffe 04-30-2012 08:48 PM

Same boat, no pun intended. I just got my new fuel tank in so that cleaned my bank out for another couple weeks. I'm not ready for it just yet but it was such a great deal I jumped. I want to buy all my paint at the same time and that Interlux primer is giving me heartburn.

Did you go with the 2 gallon kit? I'm just doing the entire hull, no deck or gunnels. I would hate to get a gallon and have to wait on more.

Kracker Jack 04-30-2012 09:23 PM

I bought a gallon kit. Im just priming the sides of outer hull and the sides of inner liner and cap. The floor and cap will be done in durabak (UV rated bedliner 'white') and the bottom will be done with Interlux VC performance epoxy so no primer is needed.

Yea RW those are my girls!!!! They have been very patience with me. But I also include them on the build also. Laila my 5 year old is so excited she is a fishing fool! Irene was born and raised on chincoteague island up on the eastern shore of Virginia so she is a boat girl and has actually enjoyed watching the progress, she also pick out the color of the boat.

I mocked the cap up today. Boat looks awesome with the gunwale supports and the cap on. Really has that custom look to it.

The wide gunwale tops really DO IT!!...I like the old CCs, but yours looks much cleaner and at least appears to have lost some weight...

jasoncooperpcola 05-07-2012 08:53 AM

Looking good Kracker! I love the looks of the wide gunnel caps.

Bradford, yea shes a v20 but a little different!! I cant wait to put her in the water.

Kracker Jack 05-09-2012 09:04 PM

I sanded my cap pieces down today and hot coated and glassed the bottom side. I figured if I glassed most of bottom now it would save me a back ache glassing it in the boat. The next plan of attack is to rough in the returns (Carling,Coaming) on the inboard side of cap, I plan on putting coaming pads all the way around the boat so how low should i make my returns? 4"? 3 1/2"? whats the measurement on the factory returns? or in boat building terms the carling. or some call it the coaming.

Curapa 05-09-2012 09:27 PM

We call them coaming pads, never heard of carling. I would say 5" would be sufficient for most coaming pads. Have you looked into the Seadek pads? I would go that route if I were adding pads to my boat. I have been thinking about adding a pad between the leaning post and console.

jasoncooperpcola 05-09-2012 09:41 PM

I dont know what the heck they were called, but on my 250 Sportsman they were six inches. Thats i plan mine to be when i start the rebuild. I will tell you Kracker watching your build has me itching more and more to start on mine. But i dont want to start cutting until i get a couple loans paid off. I dont want to get ahead of myself. Are you planning to make your own coaming pads? Also why not abort the returns and run open gunnel caps? I seen several boats like that and i liked the look. But if you have to run wiring down the gunnels it can become unsightly. Just a thought.

Curapa 05-09-2012 09:57 PM

If there is any offshore fishing happening on the boat coaming pads are like heaven! The most uncomfortable boat I have ever fished was a 25' Pro Sport, not only were there no pads but but the liner angle was so severe that when you hooked a big fish it felt like it was going to pull you overboard. The knees can only take so much.

Kracker Jack 05-10-2012 06:08 AM

Yea I'm doing my own pads, actually my buddy with Petty Marine is doing them. I'm running LEDS lights and other stuff under my cap so open cap is out of the question. A Carling in marine terms is the horizontal structual band that wraps the inboard side of the cap. The coaming is non structual horizontal "trim band". I had to look it up in a boat building dictionary so don't let seem like I'm some proffesional!!!!! Lol!! Jason wish you lived closer!! Because we would be wacking and jacking on that boat already

Curapa 05-10-2012 09:44 AM

Good to know! Most of the pads I have seen were in the 5-6" range.

Blue_Runner 05-10-2012 12:03 PM

I found some pads on eBay that were a perfect fit for the V21. They say "Palm Beach" on em but I could not care less. Think I paid $53 total including shipping for the pair brand new. They are between 4 & 5 inches. Consider where the pads will be placed and find pads that fit or if you build them then obviously custom fit them.

Closer and closer every weekend Kracker.

Stopped by a shop and got a quote on the fabric to build my own coaming pads. $35 per yard which is 36''x54''. Does that sound right?

What kind of material did you get a price on?

jasoncooperpcola 05-20-2012 06:59 PM

I cant remember the name. But it was heavy marine grade vinyl. Next time i hit Subway for lunch i will drop by and get the name for it as they are next door.

Kracker Jack 05-20-2012 08:26 PM

Ebay has some really good deals on marine vinyl and sunbrella and canvas material.

I started out not knowing a whole lot about doing a boat build. I have done some soft deck repairs in the past and thats about it. It goes to show that with alot of research and asking questions will get you a long way. The cool thing is that I know enough now to be able to help others onn this site now when in the beginning I was almost lost!!!! lol!!

bldgengineer 06-02-2012 07:50 AM

I've got a bunch of locals pointing me in the direction of some V20s in my price range. I might be asking you a whole lot of questions soon lol ;-) I am hoping for something that's not as big a project though

Yea I took this one on knowing it was gonna be a huge project and a one of a kind. I simply wanted to challenge myself. I am gonna finish this one up and then start on redoing my 20 ft pontoon boat.

bldgengineer 06-02-2012 02:28 PM

I wish i had that much time and patience for that much of a project. Thats why i commend you on yours!

Well fellas Im back from my cruise and had a blast!!!!! I got home this morning around 7 am and started working on the V around 10 am. My Old neighbor came came out and said "Dam boy! you get off one boat and get right back on another!!! LOL!!. I took it easy today and just cut out my cloth patterns for my structual inner rail.

Kracker Jack 06-16-2012 08:33 AM

well Im finally gonna be doing some glassing on the boat today. Its been a couple weeks since I have worked on her. Im getting ready to move and have been working alot so my time has been needed elsewhere.

tartuffe 06-16-2012 02:31 PM

Congrats on getting back at it. You're in the home stretch now! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I finally finished my stringers and flipped the hull today to start on the hull, prepping for paint and flipped the cap ready for working on rotten spots on the deck. Time to fire the grinder back up.

Here are some pics of my inner rail that I glued yesterday. Yes I had to cut relief cuts in it to get it to comfortably conform to the contour of the lines of the boat. All relif cuts will be soaked with reduced resin and then filled with thickened resin and covered with one layer of 1708. It will then recieve another layer when i wrap the cap core. The gunwale supports are 4 foot on center and even with no glass on the rail and with the relief cuts i can stand on it with no structual issues. the last picture is of that proud bow that I stared at for an hour while drinking some beer yesterday, couldnt help but take a picture of it.
