Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Nice work Hammer. Very impressive. In fact, I think you deserve a brewski at Hooters just as soon as this weekend is over ;D
I've got some pics to post as soon as I get time to upload. Your gonna love these arial shots ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
HOOTERS. ;D Where..when..maybe now. ;D
Parishht, the yard that the boat is at on on Pilottown Road. It's the road that goes along the canal. Follow that road towards the Coast Guard Station until you come to a dirt road road. Take the dirt back toward the shop. You cant miss the V. ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild

Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Yikes, came home and was yelled out by Lefty. Spending to much time on the V. Kids and family are coming down and teh house isnt cleaned. I might be getting grounded guys. :-/
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
You better get to doing real work ::)
Or there will be no relief for little Hammer in the near future ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
LOL Willy, I agree with ya. Cant believe I got so obsessed with this V. ;)
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
it happens but you are doing a great job. I'm also in that boat of dividing time between wife kids and the boat, not to mention over worked at the station. Keep it you're doing great.
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Kids are down this weekend, plus I'm working as well. So I dont see any work on the V getting done this weekend. :-/
Oh well, there's always next week. ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Just make sure you spend equal time working on Lefty's transom and you won't be in the dog house! ;D ;D
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Hey HAMMY, I stopped over on Sunday and took a good look at your work,
really looks good. What I really wanted to see was how much room there is to replace what should be scuppers. From what I see, to do mine, I would have to have rubber arms to get up inside. |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Parishht, I agree. not happy with the drain set up. Like you said, you gotta have rubber arms to get inside to replace teh hose. really no good places either to install access hatches either.
Going down today for more sanding before the cap goes on. I'll get up with Jim about your buddy's Rudey motor. ;) Bradford, since it was my birthday, Lefty let me work on her transom. ;D I'm out of teh dog house now. ;D |

STILL, picked up those decals on E-Bay. 23 bucks I think I paid for them.
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
I got the same decals, they work great and look even better. Ebay, I think the seller's name is "taylorint" but not sure, just seach for wellcraft ;)
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Got the cap back on and started glassing her in. Would post more pics, but the battery in the camera went dead. >:(
Starting to wonder if Seacast would have been alot easier, CHEAPER and "FASTER" :-/ http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...r/DSC02925.jpg |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Put in new batteries for the camera and took these you all you picture Ho's/ *;D

Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Lookin good. ;) ;) ;)
If you can do that outside with limited light and tools, then I know I could do mine, in my lighted barn with all my tools. I would just have to bring the V to Pa., when I am ready. I think I am looking at a rebuild in the next two or three years. |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
you have more talant then you thought or even more then me!! That job looks great! I would not have done it and if I had it would not have looked that good!
Good job |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
looks good..... ;D
your new name is "Skools Jr." ;) |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Hammer, you gots skilz bro....but we all know how you paint.
This ought to get interesting ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
LOL, I would like to use Durabrak rubber paint like Capt. Bent used. But the West System is killing me in the wallet. :-/ Thinking Seacast would have been cheaper and easier. But at least I'll get a V-20 Blue-ribbon for doing a transom......"Right"... ??? ??? ???
I want my Ribbon. ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Just clean floor well and use RustOlium, works well and you selling any way, Don't go nuts on the little stuff!!
Thats were it becomes over budget!! Just make sure she is solid and then cheaop the way thur for the next guy ;) |

Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Hammer,
Seacast seems to elicit negative feelings from folks. Pourable is better terminology. I will probably redo my transom on my dually this winter and I think a pourable solution is in the cards. I personally will go with Arjay or Nidacore pourable- Seacast is just to damn expensive. I'm sure I'll have my share of folks telling me I'm crazy for using the stuff. If it flops, it flops. I can always go back in and do a traditional rebuild. Maury |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Flounder, I've only heard people speak of Seacast. Those other two name brands you mentioned, I never heard of, you hear good things about the outcome. Are they for use on redoing Transoms ??
Parishh, Thanks for the Ribbin Bro. ;D |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Somebody had mentioned NIDA core before,
so I looked it up and found their website, here's a link: http://www.nida-core.com/english/index.htm |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Arjay and Nidacore (Nidabond pourable) are both ceramic polyester compounds, as opposed to Seacast which used fiberglass. Both are about half the cost of Seacast which makes them very attractive. Nidabond has been used by Wellcraft and Venture Marine for some time now. I think they area viable option if they are done correctly, and the key word there is "correctly".
From their websites: Description: ARJAY formulates its Ceramic Pourable Compound with premium polyester resins and high strength ceramic spheres resulting in high tensile and flexural strength. This lightweight compound is ideal for filling large volumes where strength and rigidity are major concerns. The Ceramic Pourable Compound mixes and pours easily from the 5-gallon pail. Features: Excellent rigidity and strength Formulated with premium resins Low exotherm Mixes easily Pumpable or pourable Excellent stability Uses: Filling large volumes General purpose filler Radius compound Structural applications where high compressive strength is required and: NIDA-BOND POURABLE TRANSOM COMPOUND is ceramic filled polyester exhibiting exceptional physical properties. In particular, the compressive strength has been documented by an independent testing laboratory to be 3,895 psi (ASTM 695). This is several times that of plywood and 8 to 10 times that of PVC foam. In addition, the failure mode shows elastic yielding before failure. This makes the NIDA-BOND POURABLE TRANSOM COMPOUND material an excellent choice for critical applications such as coring transoms on power boat hulls. |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Great Info Flounder. It has me interested. Whats teh cost per 5 gallon ???
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
I like to see someone do it! There has beeen so much talk I wish I had to o one!
Flounder great find!! |
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
I saw the Nidabond at $115 per gallon and I got a quote from a place in Sarasota for $100 per 5 gal for the Arjay.
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Wow, that is alot cheaper. ;)
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
Hammer, not for nothin' but I got a call from your "other" V and she'd like to take you and your family for a ride. I think she's a little jealous.
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
I saw a post from her, well it was screen name "HammersV", she seemed a bit blue, perhaps down and out due to being neglected. She mentioned something about going on a diving trip. :-/ ;D
|
Re: Hammer's transom Rebuild
