Re: Specs
If ya'll ever run out of problems with a boat, please let me unload some of mine.
Apparently I got more than my share. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture189.jpg What is that, that is the port gas tank leaking. Well, I'll pull it out (again) and see if it is salvageable. Didn't leak when full of water (oh asskick), gas is thinner than water. :P |
Re: Specs
Hopefully it's just a loose fitting.

Re: Specs
I'm to the point now, all I want to do is throw it in the water and see how it performes.
Fixed the leak in the tank by drilling a 5/32" hole and putting this stuff on it. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture190.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture191.jpg I do remember useing something like it years ago and had great results. Well at least it will prolong having to buy saddle tanks maybe for this year. |
Re: Specs
Did get the batteries mounted, bilge pump in (MJ) and the key switch fixed.
Still got to decide on the seating, but for now I think I'm almost out of excuses. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture194.jpg (thread for battery/bilge guard) http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...%2Fbilge+guard http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture195.jpg (thread to seats installed) http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...ection+hatches |
Re: Specs
Tsub, you are doing a great job and getting really close. Nice pics and documentary!
I do have one question though and excuse my ignorance if you've already said the reason...but I was wondering why you went with the jackplate? Looks like a 20" motor and 20" transom so unless you just want to be able to get into skinnier water I don't understand the need for the jackplate? Is it manual or hydraulic? The motor looks about 7 or 8 inches too high in this pic: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture173.jpg Not trying to bust your stones or anything like that, just wondering. I'm sure you know what you are doing :D Again, great job so far! Blue |
Re: Specs
I think you are right BR :o.
Hey BAKI, I have been trying to decide on seatting since I got my V. I bought some folding deck chairs, the nice padded ones, as a temporary thing but they are working so well for me that I think they will be my permenant system. You can put in several of em for riding and skiing and take em out for fishing. If the sun happens to move in the sky while you are out you can slide your chair under the shade, and they were cheeper than anything else I could find. I got mine @ Basspro, they were on sale for $89. I am still in search of a nice helm seat to replace the original one that is too narrow for my butt. Just some thoughts. |
Re: Specs
It's a hydraulic.
The position now is the highest it will go, which will be about 4" deeper than it needs to be while barely moveing, say trolling or shallow water. Something interesting about the boat, when Daddy owned it he was telling me he could bump across bars to get into inlets around here. The bow would be barely deeper than the motors foot and just barely moveing he could literally bump across the bar to get into the inlets and fish. At the lowest position it's about 1 1/4" above the bottom of the boat, which is too deep. So I seem to have a lot of room for error. The setback is about 5" so it needs to be about 2" above the bottom or more. A test run will let me know. Also look at the picture if I let it down the prop will be in the dirt. I'm most likely not going to have the same loads in the boat at any given time of the year. In the summer it might be light but in the fall & winter it will be loaded to capacity going on hunting trips, staying on islands for almost a week at the time. |

Also, I do think that would be cool to be able to raise it up when in shallow water or getting over a bar :D My uncle was a great flounder fisherman on the outer banks of NC. He used to get a running start and skid over the bars to get to his favorite spots. Now hurry up and get that boat wet so we can see how that jackplate does. Looking gooooood! |
Re: Specs
Go ahead and throw a cooler and some plastic lawn chairs in her and get on the water! ;D ;D

Re: Specs
The boat is missing from the perch that it has been on for well over 3 years (don't know when the last owner used it).
It didn't go without some fight, I pulled several things in my right leg between the knee and ankle. Hope it's a lot better in the morning for the test run. Got it in about an hour ago at the ramp at the end of the street. We had an 8 foot tide tonight. In the morning it's only supposed to be 6.8, therefore the reason for rushing it. |

Re: Specs
Wasn***8217;t physically able to try the boat last night (walking around like a pegleg pirate) so after letting it sit overnight at the dock found it this morning listing to one side slightly. Well after crawling into the boat and checking for rainwater and then saltwater with no results, I happened to turn on the fuel gauge to find the port tank had been drained. First response was ***8220;dam didn***8217;t take long for thieves to get the gas***8221;. Now I only filled each tank half way to test them. Turned on the other tank and it was reading ***8220;FULL***8221;. ***8220;What the hell***8221; ??? What happened was at low tide the boat leaned on the side and siphoned the gas from one tank to the other. Guess I***8217;ll need to reinstall the shutoff valves. :P
(thread correcting fuel delivery problem) http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...=fuel+delivery Boat ran fine, after 15 or 20 minutes finally started opening it up a little but just as I pushed to full throttle the horn came on. So I backed off a little and it quieted down, gave it more throttle and it started again. It***8217;s pumping water, not steaming or giving any indication of overheating, except the horn. This went on for another 15 or 20 minutes till it stayed on constantly. So I slowly headed back to the dock. No, I didn***8217;t take any tools or even a paddle, just a cell phone. After letting it sit for about 2 hours, I went back and turned the switch on and immediately the horn came and stayed on. Found the offending sensor, disconnected it and all seems fine. More to add to the repair list. (thread to horn/sensor) http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...ead.php?t=7633 You know a ***8220;test run***8221;, ***8220;shakedown***8221; or ***8220;splashdown***8221; is supposed to be about finding the bugs in the system, not about finding all the bugs in the world. :-X Did do more work on the trailer while the boat was off it. Greased the rollers, changed the winch. (also thread to guide on trailer bunks) http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...guide+on+bunks http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture198.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture200.jpg Probably gonna let this thread end and start offending the ***8220;Repairs ***8220; and ***8220;Modifications***8221; sections. That***8217;s where most of this belongs. Gonna pull it back on the trailer tonight at high tide and resume operations. ;) |
