Re: Suzuki 140

I dont know about zukies but I see a lot of them and they seem to have an excellent reputation from pretty seasoned captains who are out 250 days a year or more. The sea tow and TowBoat US guys here in Beaufort run the piss out of them and swear by em. On the other hand if the REQUIRED DEALER maintenance is anything like some of the others then it may need a second look..An old guy across the creek asked me to pick up and tow his boat from the dealer as he has trouble backing up his truck( he is 75) and I have to say I was AMAZED at the bill. The motor is a 2004 Yammie 225 and just for an oil change it was $178.00 and I wont tell you what the valve adjustment cost $$$$$$$..I was also amazed to see his warranty book with maintenance receipts for what its cost him so far just to run out a few times a year for flounder. And to add insult to injury the dealer talked him into an extended warranty which DOES NOT cover this kind of ROUTINE maintenance...The motors are not the issue here and can probably get along fine without all the required check ups etc. its the greedy dealers but thats just my opinion...Frank

OK, here's an update. Motor now has 100 hours on it. It has not missed a beat. Fuel consumption is still low and the motor runs easier (picks up rpm quicker).

A note aout the V-20.
It has been blowing like stink for three weeks here in the Keys, and the few crab pots I have must be attended. The V-20 is dryer than I thought it would be. I can always find a speed/direction that gives a smooth ride, and still get to the grounds in a reasionable time. I am pleased. But those of you with V-20s knew these boats are good already.
The only fault is the wash over the stern, and part of that is my fault for not raising the transom befor installing the new motor.

Here in Marathon there is a clean-up going on to get rid of old boats that are abandoned. I have watched two V-20 stuffed into dumpsters and taken to the dump. It is a shame that more folks do not bring back the run-down hulls that are out there. I hear Florida has a new way to get a new title for an abandoned boat and it may be an option.

So this is an indorsment of the V-20 for the Key's waters (and probably anywhere else too).

Sounds like you are all set!!

To bad about them V20 and any other boat that is getting crushed!! :'(

Wish I was there, but then again I would have a boat junk yard!!
Hey thats not a bad Idea! Strip and sell all the parts, and people like skools could come and cut 3 feet off a v0 to glass to another V20and make it a 23 footer~!

Hey Snoozer...that wash over the stern...may be too late for transom mods, but what does the splashwell look like?...might be able to build that up and then the wash won't matter a twit ;) 8) ...

Cool thread. A wise man once told me what boat stands for: B.O.A.T.--Break Out Another Thousand!! I have to agree with macojoe, I am a cheap sob and try to save a dime if possible. On the other hand, peace of mind is worth alot and knowing my motor is gonna get me back to port (especially with the wifey on board!)makes it worth spending the money to get something done right. I'm glad to have found this board so when something does go wrong chances are someone else had the same problem and we can all learn and save a buck with someone else's experience.
