Re: Just found out......
The lights for the GM's are held in with pins, they're super easy to change. $500 is a bit much.

Re: Just found out......
Like 76 says, when you lift the hood look for a L shaped pin above the light, there will be two of them.
Pull them stright up and out. The head light just falls out in your hand after that!! Now for the parking light and the driving light, it is held in with a plastic clip, just squeeze and pull. replace bulb, snap back to ghter, put head light back replace pins and you are done! Total time to replace 5 min!! So he got $100 a min!! I hate going to th garage!! |
Re: Just found out......
yep, those daytime driving lights eat up bulbs. i put a bypas in the harness to disable mine. cost like $15 from summit. if you just push the parking break 1 click that will disable it also. but, then the brake (dash) light stays on.
i gotta admit, ford makes a decent product nowadays. matter of fact, i just bought two last month. got the wife a taurus (well known pos till 02) and i got a f-150. i bought only cause it was a deal. a client hooked me up with both for $22k. the taurus is an 04 with 45k miles. the 150 is a loaded 07 crew cab with 12k miles. i DRIVE a 97 gmc that has 130k miles. as good as a truck as the ford is supposed to be, i dont like it. first thing i noticed when i got in is that in a ford you set up way high and the seats are stiff. i like my layed back cushy leather. the throttle is way to touchy. you barely touch it and it gone. very agrivating when backing a trailer. and when you floor it, it dont realy do much. not like a chevy anyway. and the f150 boxed frame is super strong but, i dont like it iether. thing rides like a wagon. especialy with a trailer behind it. you feel every little bump but, dont realy get a 'feel' for the trailer. with my chevy a can feel if a tires low or a load shifts. hell, i can dam near tell ya if somebody forgot to put a tool in the right place, lol. all while delivering a much more comfy and stable ride. all that, i guess, is preference. here is my real complaint with ford... they are engineered by idiots. most peeps who prefer chevys are guys that work on thier own vehicles. if you are a do it urselfer and ever tryed to repair a ford, you know what i mean! you constantly ask urself, thats stupid, why would they do that? prime example, when i looked under the hood of the taurus (ses model with the big v6) i noticed that the water pump runs off of one of the cams! i put the ford in the field. let the guys tear it up (you know they will). will sell it before warranty expires. or trade it in. till the old general gives me enough trouble to justify 35k on a new hd, i will stick with it. just a good truck. been working it a lot harder than anyone should work a half ton for a long time. with few probs. and she will still run the dog snot out of those new fords any day! |
Re: Just found out......
i just pulled the fuse for mine. i no longer have them either.

Re: Just found out......
Racer, should I tell the engineers about the frame, as they are in the office next to mine??
They can also relay your message to the FORD engineers. I work for DANA Corp, the designer and maker of the F150 frame. |

CHEVY RULES !!!!!!!! ford needs to move (out of my way but they cant because there always broken down) i am suprised nobody has brought this up but ford has had to recall alot of their trucks and suvs for some serious stuff like cruse control shorting out and the you cant stop to me there a SCREAMING METAL DEATH TRAP. chevy the only thing i have had to do is change the oil. |

There Ball Joints were out over night!! $700 + Cracked paint on all the windows! The leaking back windows! And the leaking manifolds that cost $1000 to fix! They all have them! How about the early 5.4 triton, blowing spark plugs out of the hole! Not to mention you can't even reach the spark plugs to change them unless you are a gymnist!! $700 at the dealer to replace plugs! Don't get me started!!!! >:( Been there done that! Chevy has had 3 recalls, 1 Clean anti lock brake senor 2 Tailgate cables 3 Tranny seal |
Re: Just found out......
MJ I can only speak for GM SUV and trucks, but I will point out to you that Ford has done recalls for a problem where GM has repeatedly just ignored it till they get sued into submission. It is a shame to say it but they have all kinds of problems, just a few examples I have dealt with. Electronic transfer cases that just stop working or even worse lock up and won't disengage. GM has had the problem for years, and even when you are under warranty they will deny coverage because the GM warranty does not include electronic components. I had to go on the internet and print out dozens of the same complaints and raise a stink in their sales lobby before they would cover the labor and part to fix it, with 14000 on a 2002 no less.
Auto windows that would stop working and would all of a sudden just fall down in the door frame when you hit a bump. Windshield wipers that keep freezing up, they would replace the motors, three times, they knew they had a problem but no recall. Electronic bugaboos out the a$$ that they could never find the problem. Head light's, Oh my God the headliight's. Driving down the road at night and they would shut off on their own, and then mysteriously come on. Could not find the problem, but according to the mechanic we were one of several he had seen come in saying the same thing, no recalls no tech bulletins. A friend of mine in a lease with a Chevy 2500 4x4 has had some of these and a bunch of others, including having the rear end replaced the first week he had the truck, some kind of problem with the ring and pinion and the carrier bearing. No recalls no TSB's . No explanation other than they covered it under warranty. Yea I know we have all had problems at one time or another with one brand or another. But to make a blanket statement about what is by a big margin the most popular trucks sold in the US for 30 years or more, in all sizes too I think just does not cut the mustard. There is a reason, in spite of being more expensive that Ford has been the most popular truck by such a margin for so long and that is because they have served their owners well. IMHO |
