Re: Specs
Oh, interesting shot from the front of the boat to the rear thru the forward hold in the cuddy.

Re: Specs
The bottom is the V-step, the left is the floor boxes side wall, the right is the outside wall and the top is the floor.
Opens up some possibilities, don't know what yet. |

Re: Specs
He has away to go!! ;)
also need a new dash, floor covers, gas tank covers, tackle box, cup holder, anchor pulpit! ;D Its Looking good!! |
Re: Specs
I don't believe I can match MJ's Starboard consumption ability.
At best I'll end up useing 5300sq in, MJ has at least 20000 on his. ;D ;D |
Re: Specs
Pain in the azz it may be,..it's worth it. Good job.

Re: Specs
I used almost 1 full sheet of 3/8, have a small piece left

Re: Specs
Daddy showed up with a ladder off a boat I had owned in 1978, so I put it to good use.

Re: Specs
Found some stainless oar locks, cut them off and mounted them upside down for the brackets.
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...cture008-1.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...cture007-1.jpg |
Re: Specs
Looks like a strong ladder!! Good work!
But let me ask one thing, I do not see any sign of 5200 or 4200 under that bracket?? You have to put some on all screwes or water will just suck into the wood there! and make sure you counter sink the hole a little so the glass doesn';t crack around it. Just use a drill 2 sizes bigger and touck the gel coat with it to make it flare you will be fine. |
Re: Specs
I looked at that, there's only glass there so I put fender washers under the cap.
|
Re: Specs
Sweet ladder tsubaki, what kind of boat did it come of of?
|
Re: Specs
It was some kind of 16' semi-v hull that had an old 40hp Evinrude on it and the tank mounted in the front bow, a lot like a cuddy. Come to think of it I still got the gas tank, a square 12-18 gallon aluminum one!
Wish I had removed the flanges that I had to make to reuse the ladder. |
Re: Specs
I like that ladder!!... looks sturdy as all get-out ;) ... fender-washers'll probably do, but I's gonna suggest a pretty substantial backin'-plate under those mounts ... your cap's just like mine and I know there ain't much there ;) ... keep an eye on 'em and if cracking starts showin' around those mounts, ya might wanna go beefier than those washers 8) ...
Is the weight of the ladder the only thing holds it in place?...w/someones weight on it, No worries, but I can see some rockin' and rollin' action possibly causein' that puppy to jump off the mounts ... any way to thru-pin it or put a saftey strap ... hate to see such a nice ladder lost to deep water :o ... |
Re: Specs
When I first got it almost 30 vears ago, the first thing daddy said is to tie a rope to it the second you use it.
The same still applies, a lanyard will be attached to it in order to go to the cleat. This is the only one I've ever seen like it, may be good reason. It will be easy to lose it, this is probably why they weren't mass produced. |
Re: Specs
Got most of the electronics wired but figured I’d show you the gas gauge set up with two tanks and one gauge.
Needed one pull switch that had basically an off, on, on (left & right tanks). http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture152.jpg A regular 3 terminal navigation switch won’t work. This 4 terminal did fine. Don’t depend on the schematic being correct, in my case the bow lights and battery were reversed. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture153.jpg The gauge had terminals for “S” sending unit, “G” ground and “I” ignition or hot and a wire to the dash light bulb. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture154.jpg The “I” terminal is fed from the hot feeding the navigation lights switch. The “G” terminal goes to the fuse panel ground and the two sending units frame ground. The “S” terminal goes to the three position switch to the common or in this case labeled “battery”. The other two terminals on the switch go to the sending units in this case “running lights” for the left tank and “anchor lights“ for the right tank. The remaining terminal “bow lights” is vacant. I connected the gauge bulb to the dash light switch but I didn’t connect the navigation lights in the traditional sense by the first position being anchor and the second position being all. What I did was the first position would be all exterior navigation lights and the second position would include the dash lights. This way if the dash lights caused night blindness I could simply exclude them at night. I have a bad habit running at night without lights on so as to be able to see the water. |
Re: Specs
Purty cool there tsubaki, how close ya getting to splashing her? We might have to meet up at beach hammock and have a shindig! ;D ;D
|
Re: Specs
At some point I have to just cut it off and put it in the water.
I can't help myself, I keep changing and replacing stuff but I've almost run out of things to do. When I throw the motor on (soon) that probably will the deciding factor. HOWS THAT FOR A NON ANSWER. Ought to run for governer ;D ;D |
Re: Specs
I'd vote for ya! ;D

Re: Specs
Liquor sales on Sunday would be my first ammendment.
Oh and find a flag to use and stick to it. What the hell does it look like this week? ;D ;D ;D |
Re: Specs
The one at my house looks just like the old ones! ;) ;)

Re: Specs
Oh, you Georgia boys. . . ::)

Re: Specs
Seems now I’m running around indiscriminate replacing and fixing things with no rhyme or reason. At least it’s progress, however to the casual observer (my wife, cousin, neighbor, etc) it looks like only beer drinking has been going on.
Here’s some more crap done: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture170.jpg Removed the seats and gotta decide what to put back. The floor at the forward port seat location is soft, didn’t notice thru the whole project. I’m not about to get into replacing the floor this year, so some “southern repairs” will go on at this time, don’t know what yet. Probably a sheet of ¼ inch aluminum over the floor and bolt the seats to it for now. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture165.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture168.jpg Mounted the water separator and battery switch to the stern lift eyes bolts beneath the rod holders. But got concerned about water dripping on them so I attached a sleeve of discharge hose to the rod holder to make the water go past them http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture166.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture167.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture169.jpg |
Re: Specs
Keep in mind there were two other boat projects going on at the same time, an Ashcraft ripoff (complete) and a Hydra Sport bass boat that now needs a new steering cable. This boat was bought with the intent for the 150hp motor only and to junk it afterwards, however Daddy decided to use it as a bream boat and stuck a 75hp on it. The booger runs 46mph as is, God only knows how fast it ran with the 150hp on it!!
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture177.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture179.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture180.jpg The Water Bug was gutted rear of the seats of compartments and made into a more useable boat. It’s kept in the water, now ready to go! |
Re: Specs
Figured might as well mount the motor, now I got to connect it all.
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture173.jpg |
Re: Specs
And as if I ain’t got enough to do.
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture172.jpg http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture171.jpg All I’m going to do is cut it off, shorten it a little and weld it back together. Fricken termites >:( |
Re: Specs
Uh oh! He's got the motor mounted, thats a BIG step in the right direction. Everything else is just little stuff! ;D ;D ;D

Dass RIGHT!! ;D ... tsubaki, yer "V" looking REEL good inside ... nice work w/the S'board ... doesn't look too far away from SPLASH-TIME 8) ... Noticed you put your VHF on same level as mine ... I like mine there, but want to "angle" it up to read display better...is your display readable from where yer arse is gonna be? ... |
Re: Specs
looking good man, also congrats on the GOD status ;)

Re: Specs
THANKS CY.
And Reel, I ain't got a clue how the electronics are going to present themselves to me. I just been playing it by ear and listening to ya'll on what you have seen and done. |
Re: Specs
Got that motor rigged yet? 8)
|
Re: Specs
Everything except the bubble and another hole for the ignition cable.
It will be too much crap comming out of one backwash hole so I had to have 3. |
Re: Specs
got to love starboard!! she is looking good!! Heck if my boat sunk last week I have to salvage it just to get the starboard!! ;)

Re: Specs
Quote:
The reason I mentioned it, cause now would be easiest time to change it (angle it up) B4 everything else goes in...on the other hand, yours may not need it ;) ... |
Re: Specs
Finally mounted the gas tanks, put 6 gallons in each, primed the water separator, installed the bubble and connected the fuel line to the motor.
The ignition cable still needs connecting because the “Sunday Boaters Shops” didn’t have a 3” backsplash boot in stock, so today I’ll go to 2 others that usually have real boat stuff on hand and complete that. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture182.jpg Cranked the motor up and everything works except the tach. We installed a new one but don’t remember if it worked on the other boat. We used the same control box and wires, so the possibility does exist that it never worked. I’ll have to start tracing wires next. The prior owner apparently over tightened the ignition switch. When I first started the engine the switch seemed loose and I do remember having to turn it to the “run” position because it wouldn’t spring back from “start”. Well the nut and threads fell off when I removed the key now I see tumblers and a keyhole; disassembly of the control box is next. At least I can trace the tach wires easier. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture183.jpg Did get the winch stand repaired, still got to do the lights on the trailer. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture184.jpg |
Re: Specs
Well, found the problem with the tach.
The last "mechanic" that worked on the motor stuck the ring terminal from the rectifier/regulator to the grounding location instead of the solenoid stud. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...Picture186.jpg I would have never thought anything about it till I showed Daddy the route the wires were run. Quickly he said "that eyelet looks too big for that stud". Sure nuff after going thru every wireing diagram with no help for termination, the BRP parts number for that said "ring terminal, solenoid". |
