I finally finished stripping the bottom paint. First I scraped the bottom w/ a five-in-one-tool. I was surprised how much came off. Of course in some places nothing came off. Next I used a chemical stripper,Talstrip, available at Advance Auto. I think Skool mentioned this in an earlier post. It works well. Because of several layers of paint two applications were sometimes needed. This stuff is pretty strong and can soften the gel coat if you are not careful. Water stops the stripping action. After the stripper a light blue haze was left on the hull which I removed with a random orbital sander.
If you get any stripper on your skin you will know it right away, it burns. Rinsing off w/ water will stop the burning. |

Harbour, how did you contain your scrapings and stripped paint?

I used an old tarp and 6 mil plastic.
