I have all my glass and such for this project. I am going to just need to get the bracket blasted and powdercoated and Ill be good. The machine shop here is gonna do it any color I want (white of course) for 150. oh and Ill need some gel coat too...gotta get that. Sorry Kajun I jacked the hell outta your thread man. ::) |

I forgot to ask what size is your Force, is it a 20" (EX-LONG) or a 25 (EXX-LONG). I ask because if you are setting up for the future than the bracket height would be set @ what ever the Force is. I would suggest to anyone that the 25" is a much better heigth for many reasons.... Ofcourse you can redrill and fill... to change it later. Also make sure to account for the transom angle when setting the bracket or motor- cav. plate/hull bottom line relationship. A "ballpark" figure would be 21" for a 20" or 26" for a 25". |

Yeah Pikfish, its a 20" shaft. I woud prefer it was 25" for the bracket too. I know that would be better but figured I would just buy a 20" motor for the repower.
I dont know that it would be worth moving the bracket and all after I already re glass my transom? I wanna say MJ had a formula he used on his for the setback and it was like 1" of lift for every 12" of setback? I was gonna research that more when time came because there is alot to do between now and then. But since we are on the subject what is the correct formula? If MJ is right then I would mount the bracket to where my cavitation plate was approximately 3" over the current location (bottom of hull). |

Yes they say for every 12" back you go up 1" so a 30" set back will go the 3 inches.
But that said I did not like how high up on the V20 transom it had to go!! So I just mounted it like a 25" shaft should be with the cavation plate even with the bottom. I have not had any problems at all!! and the motor stays out of the water just fine. The decision will be yours at the time. Look to see were the bracket is on the transom when you do it and decide for yourself. Thats why they call it a coustom fit! ;) *But you have to be at least 25'!! Make sure that you measure from were the motor mounts on bracket!! Stinky, looks like you will have to make shims for the corners like I did.
What you going to make them out of?? I made mine from 4x4 PT and cover the crap out of them with 5200 But under the boat you can see the PT I did not want them to be complete covered and not dry out if got wet, after 5 years the wood still looks new. |

The place to start with the mounting height is to measure the height that is now (the height of the cutout in the current transom and the motor mount boltholes that you have been using). If it is working well now, let that be a guide.
One of the drawbacks of using a bracket on a shorter boat is the increased pitching. This will cause the motor to have a tendence to rise and then be dunked. I am looking into maybe installing bait boxes on the sides of the transom that when empty will add to flotation. |

MJ, no shims. Unlike the V20s the 18s have a flat transom. The bracket is flat so no shimmin. 8)
At least I dont think so from lookin at it. If I have to I will use your suggestion. Or maybe some starboard? :) |
