hang your motor on it like it sits and see how far down you need to go. If I'm not mistaken, the motor on that boat is raised up in one of the higher sets of holes, You will never know untill you set it on the back and see how high it is. Any one with a V21 rigged? What set of holes do you have the motor in?

I don't know what set of holes but best I remember its as low as it will go. I'll check it out and report back.

Yes, I am interested...but important to know the set-back (6" hopefully) before I buy...either way, thanks for finding... |
reel, i called the guy on craig's list about the bracket, i'm not sure what "set-back" is but this one travels up and down 4 inches and distance off of the transom 5 inches. he said it is made out of aluminum. in the picture it appears to be a "homemade" bracket out of al angle. this is a local outboard shop not far from my house, if you think your interested, i can go out and eyeball it. if you want it, i will buy it and ship and you can send me a check for 75 + shipping..

Not to throw fecal matter in the punch bowl, but why not sell the Reel w/ Honda, sell the Johnson and buy a 25" motor for the new boat. Doesn't have to be new. In 2006 I installed a year 2001, 150 Merc on my V for $4200. The motor had 125 hrs on it with 135 psi compression on all cylinders. I bet you can find something with less hrs on it than your current Honda. This is just another option.
You're reengineering a boat that already has a small setback with an additional setback. You'll know if it was a good move the first time you backdown and the cowling isn't underwater. You may have to replace most cabling. The original setback, plus an additional setback and lowering the motor 5" may change the whole attitude of the boat. Good luck on your venture. The new one looks great. You're going to have a blast with your project. Wish I was closer so I could help. |

If you want, I'll call him from here for more questions...then if I wanna get it, I'll take you up on buy and ship at my expense...lemme know... Hey Seacrets...I hear ya on the points you make...well taken...my FIRST plan is to find a mid section and lower unit for my existing motor and forego the bracket...matter of fact I just got off phone w/dealer I got the Honda from...he is optimistic re finding what I'll need to make a 25 outta my 20...so we'll see how that goes...a bracket may have to serve temporarily till I find a long mid & lower...just tryin to cover all the options...how's things in Stienhatch?? |
Cold and windy today. It's been in the low to mid twenties at night for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Today, it's warmed up to 46 with 20 kt winds. Nice day to stay in the house. Come on down and visit in the spring. We'll wet a line.

if you want to give him a call and hash out the details, that would be best. i think its a local shop because of another listing he has for a kicker bracket and you can see the background. i can go out and take some pics and eyeball it if need be.
you are right, i would do this as a second option and the only way i would do it, it would not require any additional holes in the transom................let me know |
